Eh, Delta would have done better if that were the case. These remasters generally sell pretty well and we're the target audience for most of them.

I feel like the Xenoblade X remaster didn't do great, but maybe.

I'd imagine the reason the Switch 2 games are underperforming is because most of us don't have one yet. Remasters tend to be cheaper than a brand new game, to boot, so it's no surprise that we're playing more of those.

When you compare contest results to playrate polls it is very evident that people do this all the time! Indeed a lot of those Bananza votes were probably from people who have not played it yet.

I'm sure it happens, yeah, but I'm also sure it's underperforming because it doesn't have a high play rate yet

I mean, I've literally played none of the games in today's poll. I considered abstaining, but I went and voted Dispatch simply because I want to play it more than everything else in the poll.

I don't want to hate on Tactics too much, as I'm sure I would enjoy it (even having not played the original). It winning just defeats the spirit of the contest.

MP4 solidly holds on to second place in the end. Now we wait to see how many games from each poll make the finals.

Gosh, remember when Ghost of Tsushima threatened 45% on FFVII Remake, five years ago almost to the day? Time really flies...

These were the Metacritic scores of the major Nintendo published games this year:

Donkey Kong Bananza - 91
Mario Kart World - 86
Kirby Air Riders - 79
Pokemon Legends Z-A - 78
Metroid Prime 4 - 78

The 3 games at the bottom were all released during the Fall time period, and only one of them actually made into the Fall GotY poll. I guess if you had to put one of those under-80 Metacritic games into a poll, might as well go with the game that was positioned to be Nintendo's blockbuster release of the year.

Despite DK's incredibly good Metacritic score, it wound up losing to an FFT game. Yes, it may have the Final Fantasy brand name behind it, but it's a tactical RPG which is a weaker genre on the site over the other RPG sub-genres besides MMOs. To be fair, FFT had a respectable 88 Metacritic score, which isn't too far off from DK's 91 Metacritic score.

Mario Kart World also fared somewhat decently in the Metacritic scores, and it's a game which can see its potential strength improve over time as Nintendo is going to be supporting the game for many years. It got firmly thrashed by Clair Obscur, but that game is likely to be one of our strongest games of this decade with a potential strength ceiling around the Elden Ring / Baldur's Gate 3 level.

This could go down as the most dominant GotY win we've ever seen, even more so than BotW's performance on Persona 5 back in 2017.

Sort of highlights how all these remakes aren't really all that strong. The non-remakes lost to them because they weren't strong enough to clear the bar.

Every game here is Nintendo or JRPG. The LFF would've been wild if something could take advantage of it

Five JRPGS in the poll, too. Wow.

Even if all the non-Clair Obscur options are all pretty weak, this is still a crazy dominant performance.

It’s over 50% now. I hope we get one more goty poll just to see how much 33 will dominate.

2017 (the year Breath of the Wild won) is the last time we didn't have a follow-up GotY poll, and this is a more dominant performance than that.

I feel like if you get 50% on the field, a follow-up is unnecessary.

But I would like to see numbers go brrrr

I'd guess DKB would get at least 30% on E33 in a 1v1. Finales are usually closer than you'd expect.

Have to laugh at the UK vote. Metroid won the Autumn poll and now it's dead last in the final.

FFVIII actually went up in the final poll, albeit because the original system poll had an "Other" option.

Metroid Dread's board vote is something else.

I don't think Metroid Dread was anywhere close to this high last year with the board vote.

I guess Prime 4 made people feel even better about Dread.

Metroid Dread was a distant third place last year behind Elden Ring and Baldur's Gate 3, so this is all board vote at this point. Those 2 games are known for having a terrible board vote and should rise to heaven later on.

Though it's still early, it seems like 2025 really was a weak year because Clair Obscur is struggling to beat a pair of FFVII games that has every reason to LFF themselves.

That said I will not be surprised if Baldur's Gate 3 is leading outright after the first update.

Metroid Dread still holding on for life here.

Clair Obscur had an excellent jump on that update, potentially putting it closer to being in the Elden Ring/Baldur's Gate 3 strength tier.

Wont be able to tell much until an hour or so in.

Baldur's Gate continues to have the funniest trends.

So Clair Obscur is actually hurting Baldur’s Gate the most it seems and Remake actually looks a bit stronger than last year. Likely at the expense of Rebirth. Otherwise the order of games is just what you expect.

It's probably also on top of its momentum currently. We will see how it stands the test of time.

Baldur's Gate III's board vote being so bad that it rises to heaven at the expense of Final Fantasy VII will never not be a sight to behold.

This was very close to happening in the 2010’s as well! A Link Between Worlds only narrowly beat The Last of Us in 2013 and quite controversially there was no final final poll. Even though ALBW likely still wins we will never know for sure.

With this decade Nintendo can at least say they have the second strongest game it was just unlucky enough to come out in the same year as one of the strongest games in the site’s entire history.

I would be so excited for Prime 4 if you told me that.
