BotW/TotK were pretty divisive I think, and 7Rs have been a pretty big win for Square so... Maybe both? If you wake up at a different time, in a different place, could you wake up as a different person? #theresafreakingghostafterus |

Most
likely explanation to me is that FF fans are disproportionately staying
around. This poll will probably have less than two thirds the total of
the 2022 version - that's a pretty big drop off. We are living our lives Abound with so much information |

Round 1 Sonic - 100% for both Diablo - 88.16% for BOP, 90.24% for Guru Tifa - 100% for both Luigi - 92.76% for BOP, 95.12% for Guru Round 2 Sonic - 98.68% for BOP, 99.19% for Guru Tifa - 90.13% for BOP, 93.50% for Guru Round 3 Sonic - 95.39% for BOP, 95.93% for Guru Not much to see here. There were a handful of pickers for Kratos > Diablo, KOS-MOS > Luigi, Luigi > Tifa, and Tifa > Sonic, but this was mostly considered a fairly predictable division. |

Well, only 10% picked Mario to win it all and 33% had him beating Samus. I think a lot of people predicted the A > B > C > A loop there, where Mario could beat Samus even if he wasn't directly stronger than her, but then he'd still lose to Crono. |

Second, it was the first harbinger of what would eventually come to be known as the Nintendo Boost. Third, it essentially marked the end of Grand Theft Auto as a successful contest entrant that we had to take seriously. The result was also controversial due to the match pic because that's not Carl Johnson. This was a major upset on the board where we also got owned by the casuals. The Oracle average was CJ with 56.72% here, so we expected him to beat Ness with relative ease. However, Ness had 51.90% of the brackets, so he was the overall favorite. On a personal note, this result also propelled my favorites bracket to #1 on the leaderboard, where it would remain for a few days with Squall as my champion. yeah, I should also note that San Andreas had just won GotY here, and I
believe it was still the #1 FAQ on the site at the time of the match
(remember when that was a thing we cared about?). This result was also a
blow against those two things as predictive metrics. |

These are two of the most photogenic characters we've had, so they naturally made for a cool match pic. Hayabusa outperformed expectations by 4% here, perhaps because he didn't get ninja pics in 2004, which probably hurt him that year. Hayabusa has shown himself to be one of the most picture dependent characters we have. |

Mithos was expected to get 58% on Wesker through that comparison, so it made sense to predict Lloyd to do better. Of course, the easy answer to this conundrum is that Kefka overperformed against Wesker due to getting his angel sprite, but it's still amusing to see Mithos do better. This would be the only Character Battle match a Tales character won until Velvet in 2018. Lloyd was also one of the original five NRT winners, which would explain how he got a 2 seed here. |

Villains contest. Probably would have been a debatable match since
Wesker had some hype, and B8 still really loved ToS and had a bit more

I always forget that Lloyd has actually won a match. Obviously the shock of the match was due to Kefka overperforming on Wesker in Villains, but even adjusting for all that, this still puts Lloyd barely above Mithos which is quite confounding. Who cares about Mithos? Congrats on Advokaiser for winning the 2018 Guru Contest! Yesmar |
Villains Wesker seems unusually weak compared to the other appearances he's had. Wonder if him only being listed as "Wesker" in Villains and "Albert Wesker" everywhere else made a difference. |

I don't think Wesker's underperformance against Kefka is entirely
explained by the picture. It's certainly the biggest and most obvious
factor, but it's pretty clear that the Mithos match would have been an
