Is Scorpion still the weakest character to reach the Elite Eight? It's kinda wild he did it in a 64 character bracket with all the Noble Nine in it, but it was a pretty imbalanced bracket.

I'm trying to remember what the Elite Eight was in 2018.

Vivi/Ganondorf
Zero/Pikachu
Squall/Zelda
Geralt/Auron
Kirby/Bowser
Sephiroth/Ryu
Tifa/Luigi
Alucard/Red

Yeah, I think Scorpion still takes it.

Well not only is that sixteen and not eight characters, Scorpion also loses to every single one there. But yeah, he is the weakest. Unless villains contest counts, that one might take it.

Yeah, I guess if we count Villains, Scorpion would be off the hook (since that final eight had Ocelot, Robotnik, and Kefka), but that was also only a 32-character bracket.

Who would have have the best chance against? Red? Alucard? Geralt? Zero?

I think Scorpion could beat Geralt if he's dropped off since the height of Witcher hype (which is possible). He wouldn't beat the other three.
ctesjbuvf 8/22/2024 5:48:53 AM#156
Geralt is the best bet year. I'm not sure I'd pick Scorpion but on this site he might beat him. Of the actual eight characters advancing there he isn't getting close to anyone. I guess he would do best against to Auron or Alucard but he isn't getting close.

That was my thought as well. I'm not sure why Geralt would continue to hand with the rest of those 16 unless another Witcher game is announced.

I would take Geralt

that result was pre Netflix show and Witcher 3 finished pretty handily as number 2 of GotD.

if you think CDPR’s image tanked after Cyberpunk even that seems restored completely now, and the newer MK games seem a little shakier now

Half of gamefaqs played Zelda 1 on original hardware?

Do we have any other playrate polls we can compare to? Wondering if the dwindling vote totals would favor NES era games.

It is kind of wild to think that all of Scorpion's 1-on-1 wins came in 2002

He's had a few in multiways and Rivalry Rumble though, so it hasn't been a total waste

I feel like the Mortal Kombat fans, at least the ones on GameFAQs, haven't really seemed to like Mortal Kombat games since MK9. Although, the series is probably still better off than the pre-NetherRealm Studios days.

I think there was some backlash toward 10 and 11 (especially 11), but I feel like there was more positivity toward the most recent entry.

Again, I doubt new games impact the popularity of characters like Scorpion or Ken very much.
WarThaNemesis2 8/22/2024 4:24:59 PM#172
What hurts Ken more is that with each entry Chun-Li becomes more and more popular, while Ken becomes more and more 'less cool Ryu'.

Scorpion's main issue is that there is a very small window for him to fit into to both make the bracket and not face something out of his league.
Not a stinky alien. :(

Yeah, Scorpion has gotten pretty bad seeding one-on-one since 2003. That hasn't helped.

And I agree that Ken has started taking a backseat since SF3. I've argued that I think Akuma could actually be more popular than him at this point. I think they were pretty close in 2010!

It's really funny how in 2018, DK was obviously stronger than before. He probably beats 2004 and 2010-era Vivi. The problem is that 2018 Vivi boosted by almost the same amount.

I was about to say that Sly Cooper was the rare platforming character who never showed back up again, but I decided to double check to make sure. Turns out he was in 2013, where he got doubled by Lugia but still comfortably took second over Francis York Morgan.

Man, there are so many things from 2013 I don't remember, for better or worse.

Is there anyone Sephiroth can clear 80% on these days or would anti-votes always keep Sephiroth under the mark? I guess Draven looked kinda miserable in 2018.

Yeah, I think anyone could clear 80% on Draven.

Looking at the 2018 X-Stats (for whatever they're worth), Sephiroth was projected to get 80%+ on Draven, Chloe, Sully, Quiet, Goro, Neku, Monokuma, Cayde-6, and Estelle.

Granted, I didn't really do any SFF adjustments, so someone like Neku (who's derived through Ganondorf) is probably underrated

although looking at it, Ganondorf got 78% on Neku, so he might not be that underrated

Yeah, I can see Seph still being able to get 80% on some of 2018's worst. X got it against Isabelle. Frog got 76% on Monokuma. f***ing Lightning of all characters nearly broke 75% on Chloe Price. Sephiroth would probably even get a good board vote on Draven if it happened (again, sort of).
