Depends on if he has a personality or character development this time around instead of chilling out until the end of the game, I'd say.

The second match I was here for was Ganondorf/Tidus, so his reign of terror has encompassed nearly my entire time here.

I always vote for Kirby in these because I like to play as him the most.

Mario, DK, and Yoshi have all jumped a bit since 2018. Luigi too very slightly.

This makes me think, what’s the biggest single boost a character has received? Zelda 2018 comes to mind, as does Gordon Freeman in 2005.

Nathan Drake went from being doubled by CATS to almost beating The Boss.

Solid Snake comes to mind.

I feel like it has to be Drake. I knew there was someone I was forgetting. Snake didn’t boost THAT much, it was just memorable to see the Noble Nine pecking order get up-ended like that after seeming to be in a groove for s while.

Nah, boosted a great bit. Snake 2013 breaks 45% on Link (wonky year to be fair), while he barely gets 35% in the early contests.

Also while Drake is a good answer, with some more consideration, it might just be Pikachu.

Biggest boost: Gordon Freeman.

GFNW currently has a record of 13-15.

I can't think of any other quadrupling where the loser would have any chance of even avoiding the doubling (barring SFF results, of course).

actually I guess Kefka could probably avoid the doubling against Crono these days, but maybe not

I doubt most people here play competitive Smash, so you can just play as your favorite and win anyway.

I know but even in a casual way he was very very bad. Most throws automatically killed him because the poor guy couldn't jump at all -- it's like worse than Little Mac is now.

I also wonder about Final Fantasy Tactics Advance vs. Fire Emblem, from the 2004 games contest. FFTA doubled FE then, and I think that match easily flips now. Not sure if it’s a bigger turnaround than Cloud vs Pikachu.

DK/tommy vercetti would be pretty bad too. Also Zelda/Ezio would prob be even worse now.

Draven vs Mega Man X would probably be the biggest turnaround.

Nothing Draven did counts for obvious reasons

Kefka vs. Vercetti would also be pretty bad. Probably the biggest wire-to-wire to squash you would ever see that isn't Draven vs. Link.

Actually, I wonder if Master Chief is the one who's dropped the most from his peak. I get GAME FUEL Chief was a one-year wonder, but he was Noble Nine level for that one year.

Depends on how much you think the four-way format played into his run that year.

I think he'd have been a beast either way with the percentages he was putting up, but fair enough. He wasn't nearly as strong in the same format in 2008 though.

Yeah, I'm not saying that GAME FUEL didn't help, because it certainly did. But I do wonder if he ever could have put up Noble Nine numbers without it.

He'll get another chance when he eventually appears in Smash.

You know, I see results like this and from other polls recently and I'm left scratching my head a bit.

If you've seen Star Wars "countless times" that doesn't really change over time. Obviously, it's people applying recency bias and saying "sure, I watched it dozens of times as a teen but I haven't seen it in 5 years", and picking "A few times" instead. Which makes a certain amount of sense, and is likely what the poll is designed to understand...probably.

Either that or we've driven all the uber Star Wars fans off the site in the last 15 years, which seems unlikely.

It would suggest a large number of the users who've left over the last 15 years were Star Wars fans

I am definitely viewing this as more of a change in how many is “a few” relative to your life, especially since the top two options have barely changed. As you get older not only does what constitutes having watched something a lot change, you also have less time to rewatch things. I know I have gone from rewatching things a lot to doing so very rarely.

If anything, it should make the extra rewatches of Star Wars when you had the time stand out more!

The poll option specifically says "once per year". If I had seen Star Wars 20 times when I was 20, then once per year is accurate. If I answer the same question at 35, and haven't seen it since then, "once per year" is no longer accurate. That may be in play, as that particular option dropped a lot more than the countless one.

Yeah, "at least once a year" is an absurd amount, and then the last option's even MORE than that. And both still have a lot of votes!

I don't know how much this poll means, but either way I would've assumed Star Wars' peak was long gone. Disney sucked the magic out of that franchise.

I'm easily the last option, too! I'm probably in triple digit viewings for the entire OT!

Yeah I don't do anything once a year anymore even though I used to play some of my favorite games near annually.

The franchise is significantly more popular and getting a better overall audience reception now than it was from at least the 2000’s.

I mean Disney as a company is terrible but their Star Wars content is better than a large majority of what came before. Let’s not defend the sanctity of Ewoks Caravan of Courage now.

Let's not pretend that GameFAQs isn't a bunch of oldie diehard types who wouldn't be put off by the Sequel Trilogy. In 2007 Luke Skywalker was untainted. It's not a gigantic drop but the peak is gone.

There is no metric proving Star Wars is more popular. Lucasfilm is also in complete chaos behind the scenes.

And at that time everybody was complaining about Anakin and how Darth Vader was ruined. I was on the Star Wars board for a long time! Besides Luke was nobody’s favourite character, actually a lot of the vocal types complaining about how he was “ruined” hated him!

Regardless the best Star Wars content isn’t in the main trilogies anyway and has not been for years and years. Visions season 2 released today!
