At least Stanley Parable's an easy vote.

LAL overcoming the FF7 name brand would be pretty cool.

Even outside of normal contests, FF7 is doomed to be the thing that must be upset for the greater good.

LAL might have a leg up because to most voters it's a remake in name only and may avoid the penalty associated with that. We never really got a reasonable chance to play the original.

I didn't know it could be competitive here, even if it's against a FF7 spin-off with a FF3/6 game and technically a Tactics game in the same poll.

I agree. It seems more like a new game people didn't a chance to try before, even when compared to a PSP game.

I've played none of these remakes or remasters but FFVI was great as is so the idea of a new version of it just isn't very exciting. And with the ugly font and lack of the extra content from the GBA/PC/Mobile versions the whole thing comes across as a sidegrade to the options we already had. I'd never vote for it here.

I was just about to say that Skyward Sword wasn't released in 22 lol, then I saw there was another page.

Crisis Core is the only thing I've played (the remake of) so I voted that. Happy to see it winning. Live a Live in second is also good, another title that really needed a remake (looking at you, TLoU).

Also do not let anything distract you from the fact that Kirby was indeed snubbed. What a shame, I loved it.

SBAllen will forever be Team Dante.

At one point I was talking to some friends comparing Kirby and Dante without initially realizing how little sense that makes if you had never been on this board.

I guess this is going to be a really short GotY poll schedule, which could imply that we're getting multiple games from certain polls in the first overall GotY poll. Because it doesn't make sense to go straight to a 3-way overall GotY after today.

Last year we got 3 preliminary polls that fed into a 6 way poll followed by a 1v1.

Going off what happened last year, I predict the following line-up of games for the first overall GotY poll:

Elden Ring
God of War: Ragnarok
Xenoblade Chronicles 3
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion
Live A Live
Tactics Ogre: Reborn

Elden Ring stomped its poll so badly it doesn't make sense to have more than one game from Elden Ring's poll in the overall GotY. The top 3 games from the Remaster poll finished with a higher percentage than the 2nd place game in the New Franchises poll.

Nah dude. It's gonna be Triangle Strategy instead of Live A Live if SBallen goes by last year's format which is the top two options from each poll.

To include the most options available he can take 3 from the new franchises poll, 4 from sequels (considering how it always has the most stacked options) and 3 from remakes to make it something like this for 2022 GotY

I'm inclined to agree: predicting the top two from each poll. Triangle Strategy earns the right to be crushed worse.

I don't think that is a hot take at all because it is highly unlikely Triangle Strategy will lose to Tactics Ogre Reborn which is remake of a remake of a port of a Super Famicom game and it also has a good chance against Crisis Core Reunion. I predict it to finish in a solid fourth place tomorrow. I just don't trust the remake/remaster section's strength at all.

If Triangle Strategy gets into tomorrow's poll, then it makes sense to include Vampire Survivors due to how close both games were. That's making it hard to really predict the line-up for tomorrow's poll.

This is such a weird poll.

Still very early, but Elden Ring is crushing this poll badly enough that it might be meaningless to run a 1v1 poll tomorrow. I'd expect the Crisis Core voters to favor Elden Ring over God of War in a 1v1 poll.

Since we skipped the overall GotY poll this year, I wouldn't be too surprised if Allen still decided to give us a 1v1 poll.

Damn, sucks that we didn't get a 6-way. Wonder XB3 would look any better here. How does ER look if we extrapolate GoW 2018 = Ragnarok? Stronger than Witcher 3 is already pretty good, I suppose.

Stronger than Witcher 3 is very good. Peak Witcher 3 was like a Top 15 game on this site.

Inclined to agree. It had to share a poll with Bayonetta 3, Splatoon 3, and two Pokemon games. Nintendo overall got 43.39% in that poll with XB3 having the plurality at 16.3%. There's a lot of room to play against GoW:R's 33.05%. Could XB3 get 17.75% more than GoW:R (in the context of this still being a multi way poll) out of Nintendo's remaining 27.09%?

I think GoW:R still takes it, but there's space for XB3-fans to feel wrongfully snubbed. It may or may not have been robbed of second place, but it was robbed of a fair chance.

Looks like Elden Ring is doing to GoW Ragnarok what Witcher 3 did to GoW 2018 after all.

It must have been asleep against weak competition in the first poll because it looks like one of the strongest games on the site here after this poll.

Look how badly BotW slaughtered everything in 2020 and look how much ground a Souls/Souls-type game still needs to overcome for it to be competitive against upper echelon Zeldas, let alone winning. Even with anti-BotW formula sentiments growing over the years and Elden Ring's wider reach than the rest of FromSoft's Souls-type games, that's asking a hell of a lot from it imo

You think TotK will be an upper echelon Zelda? I'm a bit skeptical. I'm not even sure it'll end up stronger than Majora's Mask.

If Tears of the Kingdom ends up even being debatable with Majora's Mask it stomps Elden Ring.

Edit: I know Breath of the Wild stomped Majora's Mask hard, but this match should terrify anyone with confidence in modern games against strong Nintendo.

It's too early to project anything about Tears of the Kingdom other than to say it'd be surprising if it were as strong as Breath of the Wild, so if nothing else, theoretically Elden Ring should have a chance.

No, I'm just saying that the notion of ZELDA being completely out of reach for something like Elden Ring isn't out of the question. At least if you think Elden Ring > Witcher 3.

I would be surprised if Tears was as strong as BotW. That game was a phenomenon.

Lame that there is no regular GOTY poll given that Elden Ring is stomping this so hard there’s no need for a final poll. Also Kirby was indeed a big snub, it’s probably the fourth or fifth strongest game of the year and not just on name value like Kingdom Hearts 3 was.

Yeah though, Elden Ring is definitely behind only BOTW as the strongest game of the last decade and perhaps even before then. It could be as high as a top 10 all time game.
