A = Strongest Character
B = Character Weaker than A
C = Character Weaker than B
To figure out a character's extrapolated percentage ---> [(CvB)(BvA)]/50 = CvA
To compare how C would do against B ---> [(CvA)/(BvA)]*50 = CvB
To figure out how B would do against A ---> [(CvA)/(CvB)]*50 = BvA

I feel like Elden Ring takes that? But, God of War is surprisingly strong on this site.

It did very well in the GotY vote, but it failed to impress in GotD. Not sure what that means.

Well this is a GotY vote so maybe God of War will impress again.

Elden Ring seems to have made the biggest splash in gaming since Breath of the Wild in my book. Ragnarok will be huge too, but I'm predicting it won't quite be the same impact as ER.

I feel Elden Ring is already about as strong as Smash Ultimate and God of War Ragnarok should be about equal in strength to God of War (2018) so the results should be somewhere in the ballpark of a 55-45 in Elden Ring's favor. But why do I have a feeling that Elden Ring is instead gonna do what Witcher 3 did to God of War in GotD2 than what Smash did in GotY.

It did very well in GotD. It just ran into a Western game SFF buzzsaw machine. Didn't you see what Witcher 3 did to Ass ass in Creed and Mass Effect 3.

ER absolutely destroyed HFW in the polls already so I can't see GoWR holding ER below 60%. Around 65-35 like the Witcher 3/GoW match sounds about right.

Boy are the PotD results not surprising. 60%+ of the voters being around for over half the site's life is in line with everything we know.

Well this is a GotY vote so maybe God of War will impress again.

God of War probably does better than expected due to being more recent at the time of the GotY polls, but I think Elden Ring is just that much stronger that it shouldn't have much difficulty taking GotY this year.

The short lived Red Ventures ownership means we'll have to wait even longer for a new contest, as we may have to wait a while for Fandom to approve a budget to fund prizes for a new contest.

Can we petition Fandom for a contest? Maybe a nice sincere email we rally around and sign off on?

We've let SB know for years and I trust much of his contest offerings will be bound by the companies owning GameFAQs. Is this something we've tried before, to go to the budget-makers and take that weight off SB of asking for a budget? And maybe hearing from existing FANS would mean something with FANdom.

We're old and I'm spitballing, right, but I like to think we ain't seen our last contest yet.

If I had won the lottery last week I would have bought the site and ran another contest.

Killing rallies, on top of GameFAQs in general being an outdated relic, killed our contests. Without them, the vote totals aren't there anymore. No point.

So about 62% say they don't play Pokemon games...I don't know if this is good or bad to tell the truth. Of course I bought it day one and funny thing I have bought 3 Pokemon games in 4 months.

Brilliant Diamond in August, Legends Arceus in September, Pokemon Scarlet now. Well I am a fan. Yeah so many years and the games are similar but this is fine. I mean Dragon Quest games are all similar and yet people don't complain there.

What does Sonic Frontiers mean for Sonic in a hypothetical Character Battle? Sonic didn't look so good his last time out. Can he turn it around?

I think the Netflix series will be more important for Sonic. The voters are old now and don’t play games anymore, but if we can watch a good series with a video game character then we will vote for him/her.

Sonic also has his movies since his last CB. So, maybe he has a sizable boost to look forward to.

Sonic's problem is that he's so well known that there's only so far for him to jump. This isn't an Alucard situation. Maybe he'll jump Crono and Mega Man, but anyone else is probably beyond him?

Especially since the other potential ones to leap are probably Pikachu, Tifa, and Sephiroth. The latter two have more reason to boost than Sonic, and I will never trust Sonic in a one-off vs. Pokemon.

Link shows that there's no such thing as a ceiling. In Sonic's case, just recovering much of his old strength would be pretty nice for him.

I'm not sure how well Pikachu wil maintain strength. Pokemon's image isn't really in a great place right now among more hardcore players. But, GameFAQs doesn't really play the newer games so maybe it doesn't matter.

Boosting isn't just about reaching a new audience. It's also about reminding people why they liked you in the first place or maybe changing the minds of those who didn't care for you before. I think Sonic being front and center for a lot of stuff will definitely help, but he's not beating anyone he hasn't been able to beat before.

Link proved that if you get a game that is almost bigger than the entire rest of the 3D Zelda series combined, you can give even Link a boost.

It can't be overstated how big of a deal Breath of the Wild is. It's the first Zelda game bigger than Sonic 1.

Frontiers isn't even bigger than Sonic Adventure 2. The movies might not even be bigger than Sonic 1.

Also the real Sonic movie question isn't Sonic, it's Tails, Knuckles, and Robotnik.

Ocarina was pretty big, but I'm not even sure how to gauge what's bigger than Sonic 1.

People playing it. Ocarina sold like a third of the copies of Sonic 1.

Frontiers has done really well. It's got no shot up against Elden Ring in GotY, of course, but I'll be curious how it stacks up against the rest of the field.

It's not going to beat out the Genesis games for impact, of course, but I wouldn't be surprised if it rivals SA2, if nothing else.

The Sonic 2 movie did really well. It played up to the 90s nostalgia of the series, which is the most powerful force on this site.

Sonic 1 sold over 20 million. Breath of the Wild is the first mainline Zelda to break 10.

Oh sure sales. But that's also a metric that will keep breaking itself because more people are playing video games than ever before.

BotW's 20 million+ isn't as impressive as Sonic 1's in the early 90s. And like, gamefaqs popularity doesn't care about that all...

I would argue sales do matter when it's the biggest game by a massive margin in the biggest series on the site.

If Scarlet/Violet outsold Red/Blue/Yellow I would expect it to be decently strong here (although not beating Red/Blue/Yellow strong). BotW is like if Scarlet/Violet outsold Red/Blue/Yellow multiple times over.

This is all getting away from the point, which is that there are very strong reasons why the Sonic movies and Frontiers are not like Breath of the Wild.

Sales aren't everything but, selling a lot makes it easier to make a difference even if it doesn't guarantee it.

I'm kinda surprised we haven't gotten much for adaptation polls. Would be fun to see a poll about the Sonic movies or the Castlevania show.
