RE5 should be there. The series is too huge to be excluded.

Pretty surprised Persona 5 isn't winning (even when you add the SMTV votes). Have to wonder how this poll would look if FFV were absent.

Allen removed the lowest two vote getters from last time, so it's hard to argue for RE5's inclusion when it couldn't even net 5% last time.

Persona 5 a Board 8 fad confirmed.

Not a huge change over the last two years. Final Fantasy V gained while Persona 5 dropped.

I'd expect most FFV voters to break Persona 5's way over Skyrim just because of it being a fellow JRPG and all but they're so remote in terms of platform, era, developer, and appeal that I'm not sure the overlap would be all that heavy and I'd expect most GTA5 voters probably breaking Skyrim's way would mostly cancel that out.

I can get behind that. I think Skyrim wins a 1v1 against P5, but I wouldn't feel confident picking either.

Witcher 3 only did 1% better against Persona 5. I'd pick Persona 5 in that matchup and I wouldn't even have to think about it. Persona is trending up; Bethesda has been completely and thoroughly embarrassed since that contest and is only trending down. It shouldn't affect Skyrim all too badly, but it should be more than enough for Persona to win that.

Persona fans are insane and it's the Board 8 darling, too. It would rally its ass off in a close match.

What has Bethesda even done since the last contest? I guess it's possible that some Sony fans gets salty that Microsoft bought them. But, it won't be until Starfield comes out that that really hits home since Bethesda published or developed games are still coming out on Playstation right now.

I bet heavily against Skyrim last contest because I thought FO76 squandered the goodwill Bethesda had. I turned out to be wrong on that front.

Same, although all that amounted to was picking Skyrim to lose in the Elite Eight to Dark Souls.

They’re continuing the slow down trend by like, not making anything.

Starfield is supposed to come out this year and I think they released Skyrim again recently.

Super Mario Galaxy is now as old as the original Final Fantasy was during the first contest

Super Mario Bros. World is as old as Pong was during the first contest.

Going by Japan release date, give it another 6 months or so for North America

Final Fantasy X is two months away from buying its own beer.

I'll be honest, it's probably going to be a bit. All of the Games sites are still new toys for RV and they still have plenty of things they want us to be doing right now. Trying to fit in a contest will be a hard ask.

That is fair.

At least we know we have a bit more waiting to do.

It’s honestly all good and people are only really tagging you as joke. Unless the anti-rally stuff is removed (ESPECIALLY the forced voting in every match, please just kill that idea), the only unpredictability left is consoles or allowing fictional characters in.

Speaking of, a console contest is long overdue.

Eh, I feel like there's a fairly clear hierarchy of SNES > PS2 > PS1 > N64 at the top. Maybe N64 beats PS1 but probably not. Some matchups could be fun, but the biggest variable is how much people like handhelds in general and whoever gets that right wins the whole contest pretty much.

The PC is the big wild card, but is even having a mild debate is more unpredictable than a traditional character contest.

Games with no restrictions at all will always be fun, too! FF7 boost incoming.

SNES, Nintendo 64, potentially the first four Playstations, the PC, Game Boy Advance, Sega Genesis, Switch, possibly Xbox 360, possibly PS5, possibly GameCube, probably the Wii, probably Game Boy Color if it’s allowed. It would also have an unpredictable winner, because the SNES isn’t an unbeatable titan like Breath of the Wild was.

People care way more about consoles than games. Of contests that we might actually get, this one is the only great unknown left.

I don't care about who would win between the Genesis and the Wii or anything like that

just have a SNES vs. PS2 POTD and call it a day

I mean we are on a site where outside of rallies the LAW applies so who cares if SNES wins easily?

I've never really cared who wins in the end because it's just one match but the idea of a console contest as a whole just holds no interest for me

I think it'd be a lot of blowouts and relatively few surprises

Gamecube has been neck-and-neck with N64 all three times that poll has run and beaten it twice. I figure N64 most likely wins 1-on-1 just due to it being closer chronologically to the very dominant SNES but it probably wouldn’t be by a whole lot, what with SNES and N64 games not looking or playing remotely similarly.

Shouldn’t that cement Gamecube as the probable #5 or do people think it loses to the Switch or PS3 or something? If the latter, do they beat N64 too?

Switch would crush Gamecube, and I say this as a guy who loves Gamecube more than any other system.

Gamecube > N64 is possible because N64 has the shallowest library of any Nintendo console. It would need OoT/MM/SM64 nostalgia to carry it anywhere. Is that enough to beat Gamecube's Melee/Prime/WW/ToS nostalgia? Probably.

The issue with Gamecube is that its games were low-key for the most part. People have to stop and think, "Hmm, what was on Gamecube again?" It also doesn't help that the Cube's flagship game (Melee) is basically obsolete at this point.

The only consoles with a shot at beating SNES are PS1/2 and PC. Switch could be a potential darkhorse due to its current popularity, the handheld factor, and the fact that it plays a ton of older games, but I think it would get SFF'd into the ground by SNES in a 1v1.

The idea that a character battle would be completely predictable with a console battle being unpredictable is quite stupid. The last character battle wasn't even all that predictable except for the winner and that one is now four year ago, but why should a console battle be better in that regard. It would be a very small contest even if you include loads of fodder, the winner would not be in doubt, so while you can set it up to have some debatable matches (though N64 vs. GC shouldn't be), it wouldn't be more than a character battle would have.

Tifa would definitely fold to Zelda like she did to Samus.

Would be very fun to put her against NNers that are not female though.
