It's also Super Metroid looking stronger in 2015 than in any prior contest.

Super Metroid never got a fair chance to show what it could do before 2015, although nearly losing to Super Mario Kart isn't a good look.

It seems like there is a bit of a correlation in the last two polls between games with stronger critical cachet approving over time. Obviously, all of these games have good critical receptions, but the more GOATy titles seem to be improving relative to the rest of the field. That's how reputations develop in pretty much every other cultural area throughout history, so I guess it shouldn't be surprising to see it happening here as well.

Super Metroid was definitely underappreciated in its own time, despite being critically lauded.

But, it might not be that bad either. Super Mario Kart is probably quite strong.

Yeah, it's possible SMK is just underappreciated. Mario Kart 64 did fairly well in that contest, all things considered.

Super Metroid wouldn't struggle to beat it now though, I'd imagine.

I'll nominate Super Mario Kart next time though.

I like Zelda 1 and all but I don’t really think I need to see polls about it specifically every year.

I forgot Goldeneye is kind of a strong game. Too bad there’s no contest for another two years.

GoldenEye hasn't exactly aged too well. Back in 2009 it was arguably a top 20 game. In the 2015 contest it had clearly lost a step and with GameFAQs not caring about FPS it could be even weaker now.

Though I think it'll be the strongest FPS (unless you're counting games like Fallout 3 as an FPS).

To be fair, Goldeneye has remained as an extremely powerful game despite many people complaining it's aged horribly.

It's basically Pokémon R/B/Y at a smaller scale.

"Extremely" might be overstating it a bit, but it's still got good strength.

Same with shows and movies. Everytime a new game/show/movie comes out you always heare about representation and stuff like that. I mean starring big buff white dudes or hot women with half their t*** hanging out is so racist and sexist now that it is basically a death sentence.

I meanis it really that important for Americans? Can't we just have fun? You do know games/shows/movies are a form of escapism right? Even the remake of Saints Row is becoming woke! Damn!

I haven't played that game but I have seen a walkthrough of it. It is a parody game after all.
I just want to be able to get excited about a game/show/movie without articles popping up all the time asking about inclusivity and stuff like that. Must everything be into politics and genders and stuff like that?

I manage to get excited for those all the time without seeing those articles, so the common problem I see in your situation is you.

A pro tip in life is to not care about articles and stuff. I mean I think those conversations can be worthwhile, but they don't have to impact your enjoyment.

I can watch a youtube video analyzing the sexism and racism of the 007 franchise, basically agree with it, and then still have fun watching a James Bond movie or video game.

Learn from LMS and stay away from internet randos telling you why things suck

That's because you have the ability to compartmentalize. Sadly, a lot of outspoken people can't enjoy anything unless it's been completely sanitized to satisfy their political views.

you can have those things. The original Cowboy Bebop still exists.
If a different team of people is making a new version of a thing, why would you expect them to keep everything the same? If they’re not going to do anything differently, what’s the point of doing it at all?

if you get upset about a lady character wearing more pants or whatever maybe that’s an issue with you. “wokeness” aside, you’ll have a better time in general if you don’t get hung up on everything being the same forever and can just let yourself enjoy the new thing for what it is.

I don't agree with Safer at all, but this is a stupid argument. Game of Thrones was good because it was such a close adaptation to the books compared to most adaptations out there. The changes in Netflix's Death Note were awful.

Different just means different. It's possible to be different and good like the original FMA anime. It's possible to be different and bad (see most live action anime/video game movies).
