Character Battle finals would be Link vs Cloud, and Link would probably win Game contest finals would be OoT vs FF7, and OoT would probably win You can't let the obviousness of the finals detract from what could be a very interesting bracket. Sure the SNES would destroy the Genesis in a direct matchup, but I think we all want to see how it plays out. How about N64 vs PS1? Dreamcast vs Xbox? 360 vs PS3? I think a console contest can be a lot of fun, and maybe we can get back to 1 24 hour match/day Props to azuarc, the current Guru of the Decade. Wear this title with pride! |

know it's been said ad nauseam, but I really want a character battle
contest without Link. Nobody can break 40% on Link through conventional
means these days (and if you do, congrats, you got...41%), but the
others all seem so close together now. Cloud is probably #2 but he's so
vulnerable, though admittedly probably less so post-remake. People have been saying "get rid of Link!" for years and the response was always "but then you have to get rid of Cloud, Sephiroth, Mario, etc", but that was when there was a very clear hierarchy in the n9. I don't think it's there as much anymore, is it? I would like a character battle with an actual debatable winner. It's a pretty rare thing. I think prior to 2013 we had that, with the possibility of Snake winning if him, Mario and Link had all made the final, but that was quickly nixed. The final is the most valuable match and it's never really up for debate in a character contest as long as Link is there, he just wins - or a rally makes any pre-contest debate meaningless. it still pisses me off that what should have been the best contest ever
(CB9) quickly turned into the worst contest ever. Anyone who stands up

Watching Link destroy everything is tradition. Again, arbitrarily removing characters is the dumbest thing you can do because where do you draw the line? Aside from GotD1, pretty much every legitimate contest has had an obvious winner, and that's just fine. Props to azuarc, the current Guru of the Decade. Wear this title with pride! |
We're
conditioned for it to be "just fine" because that's how it's always
been, but the final match is the most valuable match points-wise, which
is a completely pointless thing to do if the winner is going to be so
obvious every time. Removing Link is anything but "arbitrary", I'm not saying it has to happen every contest, and I already said - the line is drawn already. There is only one character that stands so far ahead of the field now. Yes, that argument made sense when Cloud was clearly #2, Sephiroth was clearly #3, and Mario was clearly #4. It became useless to fully remove Link, because it would just shift the problem to Cloud. That is quite clearly no longer the case. ctesjbuvf posted... I've seen people here wanting a new series contest. I voted for a new Series Contest myself. We've come a long way since 2006 and have way more options for expanding the field from 32 entrants to 64 entrants. When combined with multiple matches per day, we could easily go through the contest quickly. A 64 entrant bracket can be completed in 31 days with a format of 4-2-1-1-1-1 for matches per day in each round. 31 days was the length of the first Series Contest. As for Villains, I'd only be on board with it if we can have Darth Vader in the contest. i
suggested this before but make a small series bracket (32) and do it
round robin style where every series faces every other series in their
group and the two with most wins in each group advance to the top 16
where it turns into a regular single elimination tournament. this will create a far higher number of interesting matchups than a big bracket with a bunch of fodder (edited 5/14/2020 2:31:22 PM) |

Meanwhile, Mario was nipping at FF's heels in 2006, and FF has only declined since, whereas Mario added the Galaxy games and Odyssey, so it's stock is much higher. I haven't read the last 200+ posts, but I'm sure you're all talking about today's poll of what contest you might prefer next. Seeing Game of the 1990's up there (along with something I never said before: the purge-rate shift from two years ago) really makes me wonder… Does Allen listen to The Show?! If that's the case, though, I wonder what he has to say about my idea of dividing Link into 8 or so pieces and make them face Division Winners. From my calculations, it should be around FFX in strength, which matches SMG2's 2015 xstats relatively well. The issue with setting Witcher 3 even higher is that MGSV will start looking boosted from 2015 and that's more problematic than SMG2. Witcher got adjusted down, not up. Even after that, SMG2 ranks higher than a lot of its contemporaries from 2015. In the current version of the adjusted stats it cleanly beats Mass Effect 2 despite losing to Mass Effect 1 way back when...although it's probable that there's not much difference between 1 an 2. transcience posted... 90s gotd winning this poll is pretty funny.Witcher's side might be overrated. The current adjustment is based on gauging Registered/Unregistered split versus how the Registered/Unregistered split for WItcher 3 and BotW shook out in the past to find out how rallying there was Witcher 3 in the finals. The problem with this is that Witcher 3 might also have overperformed in the Registered voters due to GameFAQs rebelling against the obvious winner. I was hesitant to make arbitrary adjustments based on that theory, but if multiple people are of the opinion that Witcher 3 should be lower in the adjusted stats than it already is then I might look into it more. Persona
5 was getting the same hentai rallies and 20~30 upvote topics that
persona 4 had been getting on all of its matches. i dont think its
significant enough to warrant adjustment. and even if it is, at that
point you might as well just consider these mini rallies part of its
natural strength Witcher 3 also had topics on reddit mind you. througout this contest almost every game ended up trying to rally after the bloodborne thing happened. i think you should only adjust for rallies when they have a very obvious, very measurable impact (like Bloodborne itself, or the final match) |
