The indies being here is great since the vast majority are very high quality.

However, X&Y were obviously severely SFF’d. We have never actually seen what later Pokémon can do because they keep bumping into higher tier Nintendo. RSE beat GTAIV in its heyday and that’s it. I would rather see Black & White or X&Y here than HGSS, and it wouldn’t shock me if the results were similar (part new Pokémon not getting good chances, part the fraudulent nature of GSC).

Not too sure about that - from what I've seen over the years Gen 2 is VERY highly regarded within the Pokemon fanbase. It's one of my least favorite generations, and Black/White is along with Black 2/White 2 is my favorite Pokemon games, but I definitely think GSC in this setting is way stronger than that or any other modern Pokemon game.

I feel like these polls could lead to more questions than answers regarding Pokemon post-RBY, SSBU, and LoZ:LBW. Then again, they're four SFF-polls over a decade...won't stress much here but I thought they were interesting.

Now keep in mind what Xenoblade did to Three Houses, and how Three Houses in general looked this contest.

That X&Y result would make it the third strongest game that year beating GTAV lol.

Now obviously it is unlikely that X&Y could beat GTAV or go even with The Last of Us and ALBW. But it might beat everything else.

Also Sword and Shield are garbo (contest wise, haven’t played ‘em), no doubt about that. X&Y might be the strongest post-GSC games...? Hard to tell but I do not buy the 2015 stat as legit.

@Lightning_Strikes They suck gameplay wise too, this is why they are selling 2 DLC expansions for them.

Yeah, Sword/Shield is the worst mainline Pokemon game ever, taking a bunch of steps backwards even when compared to its much older handheld predecessors.

If only online was working as intended I don't think anyone would complain much. But not even that works.

Game Freak rushed the game, spent their resources in the wrong places places AND were just plain lazy/incompetent.

Xenoblade 2 was also somewhat rushed, was also developed by a relatively small team, and yet:

I dunno man, I much preferred Sword/Shield to Sun/Moon. That entire game felt like I was still playing the tutorial with the hand holding. I feel like Sword/Shield both cut down on that a lot and also let me play the game for longer than 5 minutes at a time without being interrupted by more hand holding.

Sword/Shield has a lot of dumb problems but there's a lot to like as well.

I felt Sword/Shield was full of hand-holding, the boring Rival (God I hate how nice guy rivals have now completely replaced the jerkass rivals of old) could never let me explore a town before spouting off some boring exposition, and while the story in Sword/Shield was crap, there sure was a lot of it. Sun/Moon did storytelling so much better, and one of the main "twists" in Sword/Shield was basically just a recycled and far inferior version of a twist in Sun/Moon.

Sword/Shield are a major step forward for competitive play, mind you. X/Y made breeding a breeze already, cutting down days of work into 1 Pokemon into <1 day to get something for a major pool of Pokemon, but now you don't even have to do that. IVs, EVs, and natures can all be manipulated so you don't need to worry about that; egg moves can be passed on to the other partner so you don't even need to breed further if you don't want to; you can train specific EVs in a way that's mostly clear and not include a single battle at all; experience is stored in multiple items that you can just maximize and easily grind something up in no time at all to 100. it's great on this front.

single player is s***, however. you can tell exactly where they just needed to release the game no matter how incomplete it was. there's clearly attention paid to in terms of wild Pokemon matching your levels (so you don't need to grind them up) and also a clear idea of how to place them to make them useful for the next gym. but the single player rapidly devolves into "finish the f***ing game so you can do all the s*** you wanted to do anyway." at which point, kind of ruins it. it is a multiplayer driven game with the only single player experience really brought out by a single area that just gets constant DLC.

It's very much subjective because I disagree with nearly all of your points and I don't really have an explanation other than, "those things didn't bother me and the things in Sun/Moon did".
