Dark
Souls is used as a point of reference so often that it literally became
a meme to see things being compared to it in reviews. "this is like dark souls" "that game is the dark souls of xxxx" "it feels like dark souls". Skyrim had that going for a while ("skyrim with guns" etc) but it died down fairly quickly. DS is still maybe the single game used most often by mainstream gaming media to describe other games. |

I had to replay the two, I might honestly prefer Demon's Souls over
Dark. I'm sure being a PS3 exclusive kept it from achieving more respect

Yeah I have to agree Skryrim is influential. Maybe the most influential game in the bracket. It started the open world craze. Maybe it got surpassed by BotW and Witcher 3 but it has a rightful position in gaming history. |

be interested to hear what people who thought Dark Souls > Persona 5
think about the semifinal match. there sure has been a lot of talk here

Like there are a ton of niche action games that are "soul clones", but how many of them are selling 10-20 million copies like the games that Skyrim influenced? I have no idea if it could even eclipse Skyrim's 60% against Pokemon. Basically, I wouldn't be terribly surprised if Skyrim and Witcher both fare about equally against the formidable Nintendo/Square stuff, but Witcher's ability to soul-snatch every other Western game puts it clearly higher on the overall totem pole than Skyrim. have little respect for HGSS's strength so Witcher 3's result on SMG2
looked a lot better than Skyrim's on HGSS to me. So I wouldn't say I
would expect similar results on Japanese games from Skyrim and Witcher

Also,
Witcher is flying high now while Skyrim could still easily lose this.
Even if Dark Souls is the stronger of today's losing games, I still
think Witcher is flexing with a performance that's stronger than

Even
if Dark Souls > P5 (which I don't necessarily buy anyway, the
Persona series has looked VERY good, especially after the Xenoblade
Smash match), there isn't exactly a lot of space between Dark Souls and
Skyrim for Witcher to slide into anyway. If

"Witcher SFFs western games" thing is a little unfair - Skyrim's gotten
Mario Kart, Pokemon and Dark Souls the last 3 rounds. I do think Witcher has Skyrim's number, but that one's an actual honest to god SFF match as opposed to whatever we're calling God of War and Assassin's Creed. if it's Dark Souls here, I'm not sure. xyzzy |

That's
funny because I never got R&C vibes from Galaxy, but I DID get
Galaxy vibes from R&C A Crack in Time specifically. The little
planetoids in that are very reminiscent of Galaxy's level design. If

Witcher
right now doesn't feel like the clear #2 game though Smash running into
SFF will make it look that way. If it keeps rising then maybe. I would
take Odyssey over P5 and there is more than enough space there for Smash
> Witcher. |

Before
the contest started I thought Smash would be the clear #2, but now...
that Xenoblade result was deeply unimpressive unless there was ZERO SFF
involved, and even than that only puts Smash 9 points over P4. Meanwhile
Witcher is running 4 points ahead and counting on P5. If

Smash's performance on xenoblade is what throws a wrench on all of it from past stats of RDR1 and 2, Persona 5 seems to be a good 10% ahead of P4, which would put it right around the same performance that Smash got on XB. |
