What was needed isn't smashing 80% past all your opponents AKA BOTW or 78% against ME3 and 60-40ing a mainline Mario on a Nintendo biased site.

I mean Skyrim needs a big BIG performance against MK8 tomorrow. Anything less than 60% would be bad. Especially considering SMG2 is well above MK8.

SMG2 is a very strong game, it has very high ratings across all websites, and it got mentioned on Watchmojo 20 games of the decade 3 months ago, so this must mean that its a really strong game.
I think its among the strongest games that lost in this round.

Because its a completely new game released in the last 2 years? has absolutely 0 franchise history here.

To say it hasn't been is silly when you consider it to be a 2 seed and if we compare 2 seeds...apart from Odyssey its arguably been the most impressive alongside BLoodborne.

how much of this is Dark Souls getting stronger and how much of it is MGSV getting weaker

Ah yes, because one SFF match and one match that puts Nier on par with Suikoden II represent amazing results, don't you know?

There's also no grounds to call HGSS's results to date amazing because we have no gauge on anything it's beaten, but at least it might be a hidden beast after all.

I feel like MGSV freefalled harder than Dark Souls got strong and Skyrim got weaker, but all three definitely did happen to some extent.

Skyrim in terms of raw power. MGSV probably got weaker but not by much. MGSV i'd easily take over KH3 and FFXV.

also Dark Souls has gotten stronger. The 2015 DS probably gets what? 57-58% here.

It was incredibly well received.

MGSV was very VERY good when it came out. It just doesn't have the impactful moments of previous MGS games

If you had MGS4 Story with MGSV gameplay it would be legit #2 in this bracket.

i mean in the present results sense. it's pretty obvious that it should be a reasonable powerhouse, then it merely doubles a somewhat low-playrate wii u sequel to something it should be technically sffing into submission anyway and then barely does any better on something else probably of little more than fodder designation

I just really want NieR to win because it's my Hail Mary to the leaderboard at this point, especially since I'm guaranteed a week on the damn thing if it does happen.

This Nier/Bayo 2 SFF is bizarre.

They aren't even playable on the same platforms and are different types of games. Nier is a story focused light action adventure. Bayo 2 is pure Action game. The only thing in common is Niers combat is modelled after bayo in a sense but thats about where it ends. Niers combat is no way near as fluid or deep as Bayo and Bayo has as much story as Mario Kart

I took Portal 2, its popular and has high ratings, if not this website has bias for Japanese games and RPG games as well, i would be sure that Portal 2 would beat the hell out of Persona 5 as well. Look popular rating websites, Portal 2 is so high, in both critic and user scores, 98% steam score. Damn good.

I mean have you been around Gamefaqs this past year or so? RDR2 is hugely Divisive dude. The people that love it love it to death but this game had WAY more people that flat out disliked it unlike the original which was a lot more universally loved.

For me personally the game was an absolute chore to play. Everything about the world story characters and visuals were breathtaking. beautiful even...but the actual act of PLAYING the game was just infuriating and it got to a point i just gave up 38 Hours in.

Badass action sexy anime-like female leads. If you haven't played either of these games, you'd probably be attracted to the imagery of both of these games or you don't.

Dude a ton of platinum fans dislike Platinum for making Exclusive Nintendo games.

Me included. I love Bayo 2. But the game is hampered. AStral Chain is a perfect Example of a good game ruined by handicapped hardware.

The Last of Us and RDR2 are overrated.

Yes it was but i spent time on the RDR boards not only here but other major sites as well and the divisive reaction was clear to see. Look at the GOTY poll as well. RDR2 should have done a lot better than it did.

Every plat fan I've talked to mentions that Automata is their most shallow combat system put out. Or did Automata sell that much more than Bayo, it certainly has a much more visible and louder fanbase thats for sure. I think the X factor is the new crowd from plat that finally got introduced to good music lol because Automata wasn't impressive to NieR/Drakengard crowd

RDR2 had a strange honeymoon period. Everyone was very high on it until that one video came out about R* open world sameness and people turned on it quickly.

Reminds me of how quickly people did a 180 on Golden Sun after the LP Quovak did of it on Something Awful.

People who make youtube videos and LPs about games are the Instagram Influencers of the gaming world. Their opinions matter a lot. I wager that like 20% of the people who voted in the Death Stranding match actually played it, but most people who voted probably already had a strong opinion on it.

RDR2 should have been put against TLOU or some other controversial popular game so it can flourish when it's own anti-votes get taken up by TLOU. Nobody hates Portal, it's got the quietest fanbase of all the critically acclaimed modern franchises

And I agree! My point is that RDR2 and BotW are pretty strong (in relation to their series) despite having all the reasons to be divisive.

Nier has a decent amount of RPG elements, an action adventure map structure with sidequests and a heavy emphasis on narrative. Bayo has a mission structure whose path is wholly linear, the story is an excuse for good choreography, spectacle and one liners and everything in it is combat focused. Not only that, Nier is mainly Platinum in combat only, the theme, atmosphere and narrative is almost 100% on Yoko Taro.

You can also compare Nier:Automata's sales to every other game developed/codeveloped by Platinum and see how it heavily ousells them and therefore come to the conclusion that it's not really dependant on Platinum's core fanbase.

There could be SFF but I doubt it's that significant.

I wonder how SS would have done. I would get beaten most 1st and 2nd seeds and definitely get beaten by Xenoblade 1. I'd probably put a bunch of other games ahead of it like Mario Galaxy 2.
