Finally able to claim post #500!

I dont think it doubles witcher either but the bolded part is just straight up wrong.
There's a much bigger gap between zelda and any other game in this contest than there is between witcher(which seems to be the 2nd seed now) and something like skyrim or dark souls.

I'm not talking about this contest only. I'm talking about gaming in general and the hardcore gaming community. Witcher 3 and BOTW are among tw of the most respected games of this generation. Now I say generation and not Decade because the current gen is just more relevant now. Dark Souls also has enourmous respect as does Skyrim but these games are much older and are seen as last gen games.

I'm still not one hundred sure that I take Witcher over Smash and Mario Odyssey tho

closest thing would probably be a game awards game of decade. that's what's usually seen as the "official" Goty each year after all.

Vote totals are currently 800 above what they were two days ago. It's kind of funny how we keep getting these rallies that (Octopath/Shovel Knight aside) do nothing except affect the match by 1-2% and mess up the Xstats a bit.

DQXI has actually bled quite a bit

I'm pretty impressed with Monster Hunter myself, although it could just be that DQXI has been a tiny bit of a fraud.

Breath of the Wild only loses to Ocarina of Time, a boosted post-remake FF7, or a rally. That’s it. That’s the entire list. We plopped down a savage 90s death machine into a bracket loaded with fodder.

Remember when we were amazed and happy that Cloud broke 40% on Link. In a rematch even.

My contest is pretty much over now. I've almost certainly got 2 division finals wrong and Skyrim making the final.

I'll be kicking myself over not sticking with my initial Witcher 3 To The Finals pick for a long time.

I had Witcher 3 from day 1 and then changed it near lockdown after reading the boards thoughts.

I was so in doubt about that match that I made another bracket identical to my own except I changed that >_> I only made those two brackets (and a favorites). Gut feeling said Witcher, but Skyrim felt like the safe pick, because I thought it was more likely to be there in case Witcher 3 was on 2015 levels.

Looking at the points I missed so far (I got 114), I've only got two matches where I find myself stupid for not thinking otherwise. Like, I wish I had called stuff like Bloodborne > Fire Emblem or Tropical Freeze > DMC5, but I don't blame myself for thinking otherwise. There was reason to. Same goes if Skyrim loses to Witcher or Three Houses loses to Xenoblade. I hate those picks because I was so back and forward about them, but I had my good reasons to think what I didn't.

Now the two where I did not have that:

Tales of Beseria > Hollow Knight
In this one I was looking at earlier polls, trying to determine their strengths and I couldn't find a clear favorite. Went with the RPG because of that. I completely missed that the Hollow Knight polls where before its consoles ports for some reason. It was basically a coinflip and wouldn't have been if I had that information.

Sekiro > Monster Hunter: World
I had completely forgotten just how big World is here compared to other Monster Hunter games. I knew that it had sold so much better and yet for some reason couldn't remember it when making my bracket. I just thought Sekiro looked okay in GotY polls and that MHW never looked worth much, so why think it would now. It's not even that I expected the Soulsborne boost we've been seeing, I didn't bank on that anywhere else, taking DS, DS3 and Bloodborne to lose as early as it was thinkable (did pick Nioh to win at least). Somewhere in round 1 I was reminded about how big MHW is and... yeah. Flipped to MHW in oracle and battle challenge without thinking twice and I tend to stick with my picks even if they look unlikely!

I want BOTW VS OOT as a bonus poll now.

Not really sure if it's worth bothering with the second chance bracket at this point. By the time this round it over we'll probably know exactly how the rest of the contest is going.

This is true. There's a Dragon Quest themed convenience store in Akihabara, which is pretty cool.
But there's an even sweeter Monster Hunter themed bar in Shinjuku.

Nah, I don't think so. Division 2, 3 and 4 finals will be debatable, maybe some will still think 7 is too and I'm sure some will try the upset in 8 as well. The matches in the bottom half after that also aren't clear.

This is definitely a much worse performance from DQXI than I was anticipating :(

But maybe MH is just kind of legit...?

There is a rally I believe. Plus DQ games as I have wrote in my analysis were never strong or popular. DQ11 is by far the best selling DQ game too. BUT MH franchise is much more popular. Everyone knows it. Hell even in Japan they prefer it over DQ. Yeah.
