Idk, Division 2 is just Breath of the Wild's lunch tbh.

Division 2 is my favorite in terms of matches we'll get to see and the definitive answers we will get to properly rank:
ME2/DOOM/BB/RE2/Horizon/XBX

The rest of the brackets are dissapoint me because I'm going to end up sad not seeing stuff like TLOU vs GoW

Div 8 has Fate Gacha, Journey, Divinity, and Hearthstone as middle seeds and forming the weakest matches in the contest, on top of other indies like Night in the Woods and Necrodancer (which admittedly might be ok strengthwise). Add on an MMO and a kart game as two of the 'better games' and Celeste and Rayman both potentially sucking and I would gladly take Div 7 to beat Div 8

what you give credit for isn’t really relevant. The Elder Scrolls fanbase absolutely takes mods into account.

Wouldn't that be because they don't like Bethesda as a company anymore? IIRC Skyrim got review bombed when Bethesda tried that paid mods stunt a while back.

Sure but it's a site-wide contest, not just the Elder Scrolls fanbase. People that think like KamikazePotato absolutely will affect the score. I for one, agree with him and will vote for Mario Kart 8 since I think it's a better game.

Voting for Skyrim because its mods are good would be like voting for Half-Life because you like Counter-Strike.

Skyrim is my game of the decade p4g notwithstanding

I've actually voted for Half-Life as a Counter-Strike proxy before.

Open World RPGs evolved immensely since 2011. Skyrim still gets respect for basically modernizing the genre, but Witcher 3 and BotW perfected it in different ways.

Fanbases keep to their individual pockets on Reddit. You don’t have the Witcher and Skyrim subs calling each other’s game trash. That doesn’t really happen over there. They just throw love at the game they like.

I acknowledge what Skyrim did for the genre, but I can't stand the game. Both the game itself and the fact that it inspired every other f***ing franchise to have a big empty open world

SKyrim doesn't hold up too well if you judge each element individualy

the combat in skyrim is awful, the story is passable at best, characters are super bland, side quests are decent but dont compare to witcher 3's. the open world itself which was largely its claim to fame now feels visually outdated compared to many games that came later, and mechanically outdated compared to stuff like Zelda and RDR2.

i guess it is one of those cases where the final result is worth more than the sum of the individual parts, because i still think its a good game. but not really among the best of the decade IMO.

6 is weaker. Has a weaker 1st and 2nd seed and we have Sonic f***ing Mania making the 3rd round. Batman would pummel Sonic Mania.

Well I don't know much about Reddit, but on gamefaqs it's a pretty common occurrence to see topics like "BotW is trash, here's why Witcher 3 is a million times better" or "The Outer Worlds proves Fallout 4 is trash." People tend to be quite competitive about their favorite open world games.

Dark Souls is destroying Rocket League to a point that it doesn't matter if Black Flag is stronger. Big difference between 76% and low 70s

Listen i love P5. If it was up to me P5 would win this entire thing But it has a ceiling.

Like i said before, if P5 had a Switch port by now....its a legit number 2 or 3. I'd take it over smash/Mario. A switch port of PErsona 5 would be insanely popular. The game is over 100 hours. Its perfect for switch.

TLOU is safe against Batman. But it will be a close match. It will get trampled by souls though

Honestly? Agreed. Witcher is a game worthy of being circlejerked.

And yes, I know that Skyrim's status here is built largely on its showings back in 2011-2015. Its polls from that period of time (especially in 2011-12) were absolutely scary, and I couldn't quite find the gumption to distance myself from those polls and pick Witcher, even though a part of me really wanted to. It's the worst type of misplay - one driven by conservatism and one that you immediately regret.

(Skyrim is getting stormed, folks. It ain't making the finals!)

Skyrim needs to not look past its competition. I don't think that journey to the highly anticipated Witcher 3 matchup is going to be a walk in the park

Nope, Fake news, Witcher fans dont hate on Nintendo games or any other, some of them and i say SOME have a pattern on hating Bethesda, but thats about it. And this i think was in 2015-2017, nowadays i dont think anyone does that anymore.
Two fans dont like Bethesda are Obsidian and CDPR. They have a minority of fans like a vocal small group which has a pattern on s***talking them.

I dont think we should count Last of Us out, the game still gets a lot of votes and may win its division, although i want Dark Souls to win it.
Skyrim is still big and i think it going to do well.

I'm gona take solace in the fact that Rocket League, at the end of the day, is a sports game.

• The Last of Us isn't more than tripling freaking Diablo III. Maybe Zero Escape isn't fodder after all...?
• Batman absolutely crushing in what was supposed to be a 50-50 match... Didn't expect Xenoblade 2 > Bioshock Infinite, really, but I guess it kind of makes sense due to being well-received Nintendo.
• Yakuza 0 showing legit strength. This game is the new KOS-MOS: It's a really strong entity despite the vast majority of people not even knowing what/who it is in the first place.
• Dark Souls... is the most stable dude here, but still showing strength as a clear favorite to win its division.

My Oracle is so screwed right now.

I wouldn't be shocked if it ends up being around a doubling. Time has not been kind to MGSV.

I have two takes about today.

Some characters are a lot stronger than their games but I think Yakuza may be the reverse. Because of his design I would imagine it is hard to get someone who doesn't know Kiryu to vote for him but Yakuza itself is a pretty popular name these days so I think it's easy for someone who didn't like MGSV or hates Kojima or Konami or whatever to go "Oh hey, Yakuza is pretty good right, I'll vote for that instead" since Yakuza doesn't really get much backlash. Those games get more popular every year. Yakuza 0 probably outright wins this match if you re-run it in a couple years.

And, I think every game in this division except Dark Souls is kinda bad. Arkham vs. Last of Us looks more debatable, and by a lot, than Dark Souls vs. Last of Us. And MGSV is going to get killed. Bad.
