RE2 is barely any different from making a new game from scratch from a development standpoint. outside of the story nothing from the original was used.

With America waking up, RDR still has a decent shot at this match. It rose 0.5% against Ghost Trick from this point in the match, so this could go down to the wire.

I don't think that's quite true, they did use a lot of the structure and modes from the original, but yeah it is a new game based on the original. Like I said RE2 is basically the boundary between what is a remake and what is a reimagining. The boundary between a remaster and a remake would be something like OoT3D, though even that might just be a remake.

Basically:

Port - the same game, possibly running differently or at a different resolution but that's it (eg The Witcher 3 on Switch).
Remaster - the same game with new features and/or significant upgrades (eg Mario Kart 8 Deluxe)
Remake - the same game built from the ground up (eg Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver)
Reimagining - an entirely new game based on the old game (eg Metroid: Samus Returns)

Okay, so if we raise RE4's number on Mario RPG by 3% it gets to 47%, which would give it 54% on GTAV. We'll arbitrarily assume SMRPG overperformed by even more against MGS3 to the tune of RE4 being worth 48% on MGS3. This gives RE4 ~53% on SOTC, which comes out to 62% on RDR. So GTAV/RDR is a 58/42 match in 2015 by this logic.

This means GTAV has plenty of room to drop and still eke past P4 next round. I feel a LITTLE more comfortable now.

If anything I would say GTAV is stronger now than in 2015, or at the very least the same. It has no reason to drop like RDR does.

Nostalgia/"it's not the same" is a very strong factor.

HG/SS is considered by many as the pinnacle of the series. Then again franchise is not as strong because of SW/SH and the Dexit debacle

I haven't played i, but didn't the RE2 remake have some fundamental changes to the gameplay/story? At the very least it didn't have tank controls right? Versus Pokemon which is literally the exact same gameplay with a new graphic engine bolted on top of it.

Side topic, but would FF7R be a reimagining? It follows pretty close to the original game in terms of story, up to a certain point.

I would actually expect RDR to get a bit stronger, despite Rockstar's refusal to port it to anything. It got a sequel which hadn't even been announced in 2015, and when it came to Xbox backwards compatibility it was a big deal. That game had a bit of a revival.

Yeah, RDR has been gaining in the United States, however, Canada flipped to P4G.

I would just assume that most of the RDR fans moved on to RDR2, similar to how Smash games get weaker when a new Smash comes out. Some sort of recency bias

GTAV clearing 60 against Cuphead makes it look... well not good but at least not as comically bad as initially thought. Let's not forget people were calling for a Cupset after R1... it's kinda looking situated to beat whatever crawls out of RDR v P4

And wow Fire Emblem. WOOOOOW. I really went to bat hard for 3H > Xenoblade. It really doesn't make sense to me, 3H made such a splash and has had a lot of staying power...

Yeah, HG/SS is considered by Pokemon fans to be the pinnacle of the series, but you gotta remember that Pokemon fandom is a very different demographic than GameFAQs voters. For example, RBY would do poorly in any Pokemon fandom poll, although it's by far the strongest Pokemon game here.

Based on RDR vs Ghost Trick, P4G is projected to win with 50.05%.

When we do GOTD 2020s in 2030, you just know persona 5 royal will also be included and it will have a high seeding too

RDR has the time to make this interesting. I still think Persona wins, but it shouldn't feel safe.

Byleth had the worst spot ever for the reveal.

The biggest anti-Smash joke is 'SO MANY FIRE EMBLEM CHARACTERS', and then the final character of a DLC set of fantastic third party characters, one that most people had already paid for. Could it be Dante? Doomguy? Master Chief? Hopefully not Minecraft Steve, at least...

...And it was the biggest, worst joke of a character possible.

Fire Emblem was on deaths door, got a massive lifeline and then gets nothing but hate after it got popular. Without the current model the series would be deader than F Zero.

Overwatch could just be reeeeally weak, we have no real way to measure it outside of Death Stranding (which itself has no way to be gauged)

but right now its impossible to deny Xenoblade should be the favorite to win the division

A Three House representative was always going to be in Smash Ultimate. The series has one of the largest cast of characters outside of Pokemon

While stronger than Dota 2/Fortnite, I didn't think Overwatch would be worth too much on GameFAQs. Still a great performance by Xenoblade in its bid to win the division.

Agreed. Only way it loses is if FE manages to out-Nintendo it on the company hierarchy.

Yeah, I'm not sure I buy the idea that FE hate is playing a big role.

Awakening lost to Bloodborne in my mind because Console > Handheld and because Bloodborne definitely gained strength since '15.

Three Houses so far has struggled against an underseeded South Park game and a surprising Round 1 stud that pulled a big upset and just had a sequel released last month.

Really proud of Persona 4 golden right now

I've been saying it since the bracket came out! Nobody wants to relinquish the ability to laugh at GTA for being a choker!

I was joking when i said pre contest what if FE gets antivotes for Byleth being in Smash?. But if people genuinely are voting against it because of that then wow.

GTAV is honestly the game most deserving of being Game of the Decade.

I would take FE3H > DKC2 in a heartbeat.

I'm convinced FE3H > FEA because Console > Handheld.

DKC2 beat FEA 52-48, which is a narrow gap to make up, especially for a game like FE3H that put 46% on RE2 back in January.

Would you trust DKC2 to score higher than 46% on RE2?
