I use Reddit a lot more than GameFAQs and probably know how it works better than 95% of this board or more. You can have two threads at the top of two different subreddits and have one with little to no engagement on it.

You are not arguing in good faith, ignoring what pjbasis is actually trying to say and only discussing the points you want to discuss.

Yes I am ignoring the second grade insult of "lol u coward u talk too much" by presenting actual data proving my point. You can put all the words in my mouth you want, but it doesn't make it true. Those two threads are the exact trends of this match and they follow exactly how Reddit engagement works. Not my fault if you're never on there and don't understand it.

Octopath's barrier game is strong.

And again, you are being deliberately obtuse and only focusing on what makes your point look better. The effectiveness of those threads is not what this is about and you're fully aware of that, so I don't know why I'm bothering.

Then what's this about, whether or not rallies are good? That's been beaten into the ground already.

I'd be okay with there never being another rally again specifically it it ensures the Stats Topic never fills up pages and pages of this exact same conversation for the 15th time.

Well I get not wanting to talk about rallies for the 83rd time, but analytics and how Reddit threads work is legitimately really neat.

You have been proclaiming this match as proof that rallies make matches good, conveniently ignoring the fact that it was 50/50 before the rallies even went up. That's why pjbasis is calling you a coward. This argument was never about whether the rally worked. You're so obsessed with being right that having an honest conversation is almost impossible, and the only people who end up on my ignore list are people I'm incapable of having an honest conversation with.

I honestly feel that without the rallies this would have followed the exact path of Celeste v Rayman.

Eh, the last few hours seem to indicate Shovel Knight is probably winning right now without the pinned rally.

It's doing the thing where it's trying to come back and gets stuck, which usually does eventually end up with a lead change but it's running out of time. There's only 50-60 votes coming in per update.

Reddit rally analysis barrier activated.

Yeah, Shovel Knight is 100% winning without the rallies. It likely still does, if it can get over this barrier here.

for what its worth I sent a link to my facebook group of irl friends and a discord server of a (now dead) DMC fansite in support of shovel knight

You just said it now. GameFAQs audience might respect it enough that it doesn't lose to something it abhors like Dota 2, but we're just not the people in those servers. That audience is a whole different generation.

GameFAQs just likes games like Spider-Man more than Minecraft. Huge sales and giant play rate outside of GameFAQs doesn't necessarily turn into strength on GameFAQs. Like Fortnite just got killed earlier.

It is a game that defines a generation in ways. A generation who's youngest members are 6 and who's oldest members are 19 or 20. Of course there's people older than that who love it, but that's where it is most popular.

The average age of this site is in it 30s. Minecraft would do really well on other sites.

Minecraft could've probably be one of the strongest games in the site back in 2009/2010, but it has grown to be somewhat frowned upon for being too full of kids. The novelty and impact has worn off a bit, and I see this match more as a match about in-game quality more than anything else (not that Minecraft doesn't have it, but… it's hard to explain).

I don't think that Minecraft's lack of success here is as much because of age, as it's that it's the favorite of no one that comes to a gaming site. A lot of the people that counts for Minecraft's sales would never visit a gaming site. I have a hard time seeing it being too succesful anywhere, even if this is one of its worse places.

2009 is probably still a bit too late for Minecraft to have an audience here. Something like this comes out in the N64/PSX or even PS2/GC/Xbox era where our generation would have lapped it up, and it's an elite title no matter how many kids flock to it.

It's just a matter of whether we have nostalgia for something for Minecraft or not.

Just showed up after being gone since 9pm EST last night.

Here's the thing about rallies... They're GREAT because the whole point of these contests is to draw attention GameFAQs and keep this dying website alive. It's not about us on Board 8 who've been following these matches since Mario vs Servbot; it's about exposing the site to strangers on Reddit or wherever who just might keep coming back once this contest is over.

I may not always love the results of rally, but I love seeing today's votals at 25K with 2 hours left to go--especially after most R1 matches topped out at around 21K. Far as I'm concerned, keep the rallies coming.

This is now officially an actual great match, whoever ends up winning.

That was a near 70% update for Shovel Knight too. It piles on a few more of those, and this is over.

I think it'll end up close, but even if they've been back and forth for a while, it's overall been in Shovel Knight's favor, so I think it's winning.

From what I'm seeing, ALBW/Minecraft/Mario and obviously Octopath seem to be the ones been benefitted from the rally.

It’s between 11pm and 1am here in yurp. And unlike Celeste vs. Rayman it’s a weeknight. We sleep.

Yeah, it'd be nice if Shovel Knight never gets the lead above 50 or so, just so this can stay exciting for the next two hours.

I feel like weekday/weeknight trend differences shouldn't be quite as stark due to the pandemic, but I guess even the smallest of details matter when it's this close.
