Those last 3 updates give Octopath its best hour so far.

Feels like the theme of this round is showing indies their place.

Very excited for GTAV to do just that tonight!

Feels like those people who weren't voting in round 1 are now anti-voting the indies, or at least defaulting to the mainstream option.

Still liking Shovel Knight's chances.

The funny thing is Octopath winning makes another indie look much better, Undertale.

Okay evidently I should just not say anything in favour of a game because then fate immediately turns against it.

undertale pre tournament was THE strongest indie game and it didnt even get past round 1

so lets not praise undertale whatsoever

for all we know Sk could be overrated

I will say an advantage that Shovel Knight has over Celeste is that it's a weekday match, which should mean that America will wake up earlier and Europe will go to sleep earlier. However, it is exactly where Celeste was at this time more or less so we will see!

If people think Undertale lost to Octopath due to anti-votes, it already is the strongest Indie barring Cuphead given SK currently choking here.

Eh, most of you are not.

And it might not matter no, but Shovel Knight has been doing better in America than overall in its previous polls while Octopath did worse in America than overall in its previous poll. We mayget a match.

This is almost exactly like the Celeste match. The only people voting now as casual voters and they just don't like indie games.

I don't think you can safely assume it'll be the same. Shovel Knight has a greater casual appeal, also being in Smash etc. Of course Octopath almost certainly beats Rayman, so Shovel Knight also has a tougher burden.

I think there is a sizable population that only ever votes for AAA industry games.

I mean it's lower than then it used to be, but my theory is that those people might not be voting on round 1 because the bracket had too many games they didn't know. Now that they can vote for AAA games, they are voting more.

Also I can almost guarantee casual voters know more about Shovel Knight than Octopath Traveler. Classic looking turn-based JRPG on the Switch probably doesn't rate well among the most casual of audiences.

What you're not grasping with this is that antivotes are an intrinsic part of Undertale's strength. Obviously Undertale would be the top indie without antivotes, but that's irrelevant.

They're flooded this contest with trash just like the game industry.

That's true but if we're talking about the most casual of voters it's probably not the type of people who consider themselves a part of this ecosystem.

Surely EA and Blizzard have a lot more blame for trash games than dudes putting together stuff like Celeste. The former absorb years from the careers of 100s of employees to churn out half-finished iterative sequels and stuff like Hearthstone.

Octopath is travelling the path to victory now.

Has anyone seen if the "NA wakes up" trends have started later than usual during this contest because a lot of people aren't working due to the world ending and therefore not waking up as early as usual?

This rally positively affects my bracket and therefore I am okay with it.

Celeste did do better after NA got up, but it was already too late. If Shovel Knight can block Octopath from taking the lead for a few hours it should be ok.

Also shane those are some terrible takes. “Indie” just means a game doesn’t have a publisher. Shovel Knight is way more casual than Octopath though both are fairly mainstream, and losing to Octopath after obliterating Dragon’s Dogma wouldn’t make SK look bad, it would make Octopath and Undertale look good.

Whatever happens I feel pretty good about when I declared Octopath as being like this decade’s Tales of Symphonia!

These rally attempts by the losing games are sad. Do it for both games in a match and help GameFAQs boost its popularity up a bit more or stop trying to push unfairly for the sake of your brackets.

Alternatively, go onto reddit and just downvote said rally. That's a thing right? I've honestly never posted on reddit so.

Octopath Traveler was released to PC markets in 2019 (Switch in 2018). Octopath Traveler will power into round 3.

Don't look, but Octopath stopped cutting 45 minutes ago and now SK just had a big gain.

The rally is not a loser trying to save their bracket, it's just ulti trying to get people to talk about him.

There is nothing to stop any of us posting a rally thread on r/octopathtraveler, which is bigger and more active than r/shovelknight.

It does seem like SK is making stalls while the rally is still a baby though, so maybe it actually writes a different story.

That reddit has less than 100 people online and I doubt most of them already voted, so it's probably not enough for this stall to happen.

The only counter is a hentai rally for err Primrose!
