It's a remake of a classic game and it doesn't basically copy-paste the story! complaining about the changes in plot and ending were inevitable. I think it's well liked among MOST of those who are playing it, that's the feeling I get from several forums and sites. The average rating here on Gamefaqs is 4.2/5 and on Metacritic user score is 8/10.

The really shocking thing about 2018 is that there seems to be no ceiling on Link that can be observed. Like if Breath of the Wild 2 is another major success, he could end up doubling the next strongest character, who could just be Zelda anyway. Maybe Ganon gets more focus this time around, and he can start beating the lower tier Noble 9ers like Snake and Sonic with little trouble.

I'm still unconvinced that Link much boosted in 2018, if at all. Link vs Ganondorf was already putting up 58% on Cloud vs Sephiroth during the rivalry rumble in 2011 and Link beating Cloud with 60% seems more like Cloud dropping than Link boosting. He also got 68% on Pikachu, but he already got 68% on Mega Man back in 2004 and Pikachu = Mega Man. The rest of his matches were just Zelda SFF fests.

FFVIIR is the first FF in a long time that is actually liked by most people. It should at least keep Cloud/Tifa in the upper echelon of the characters contests..I am really interested to see how it would do in a games contest as well, it should be stronger than any of the 'weak' FF main games like FF12, FF13 and FF15.

I'd wait until the honeymoon period is over before declaring FFVIIR "the first FF in a long time that is actually liked by most people". FF15 and SS went through this as well when it came out (lots of early threads for both were gushing with praise). Not to mention I've already seen lots of hate starting for FFVIIR on various gaming forums, especially for the ending.

... no? Life is Strange was at its peak in 15 and 16. Two underwhelming successors cooled people on the brand, and its tumblr-esque fanbase moved on a long time ago. It has almost certainly gotten weaker.

Zelda was definitely on a bandwagon against Link in that final, combined with LAW giving him antivotes, mostly at first.

Nah, it's controversial among the people who looked up spoilers ahead of time and thought some of the changes were stupid.

Almost everyone I've seen who's actually been playing the game seems to like it a lot.

I like how someone keeps tricking the server into thinking they're from North Korea.

Stuff like Tri Force Heroes, Link’s Crossbow Training, or Four Swords or whatever can probably be written off as side games. However, the DS Zeldas are some pretty Zelda-y Zelda games and I don’t think it makes sense to say they’re “not mainline” just because they’re portable or not good. It’s not like most of series is numbered or has a meaningful overarching plot to let us make these distinctions. And I’ve never heard of anyone not willing to grant Link’s Awakening main series status.

Nintendo definitely considers Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks main games. Pretty sure anything that got propped up in the Hyrule Historia timeline is considered a 'main game'.

SS is still liked. Weak Zelda != bad game. If anything the fact that SS is low on the totem pole shows the standard to which that franchise is held!

I wasn't a fan of how they interfered with the 2013 and 2015 contests, but telling people not to vote in our contests is even more ridiculous. Those two contests were more exciting than 2018 was anyway.

Nah, 2018 was way better than 2013.

To each their own, but 2018 didn't really have any standout moments. I basically remember everything but Nintendo doing poorly.

All I remember from 2013 was Pokemon and Draven dominating everything

FF15 ended up winning GotY here, but it did lose this poll to a Pokemon game before doing that so that'll question its ceiling in a contest. We also saw Uncharted 4 drop its match again Mario Kart 8 easily.

I wasn't impressed with Overwatch's win over Death Stranding. DOOM crushed INSIDE and Stardew Valley smacked up Destiny, definitely, but those matches might not mean that much. We'll learn more about Overwatch/DOOM/SV when they face Xenoblade/REmake 2/SMG2 this round.

Meanwhile, Hollow Knight's exceeding expectations and is another game from 2017 that has been looking good in the meanwhile, however, so it's impressing me more than FF15 is failing me.

2018 had, just from my memory:

• Link putting his greatest results ever
• Zelda suddenly a top 5
• Cloud saving the contest from a Nintendo vs Nintendo finals
• Pikachu breaking the N9 for real this time (and then being defeated by MM in Loser's Bracket)
• Samus losing to Mario, coming back stronger in Losers and giving us the closet finish in the contest
• Porn Rally FEAR, and Tifa
• Tifa vs MMX vs Luigi gauntlet
• Revenge against Draven
• Sans losing to Pac Man
• Sora and Riku signaling the beginning of KH3's suckiness
• Donkey Kong winning two consecutive upsets
• Geralt winning 3 debated matches in a run, all with comebacks
• 2B also winning difficult matches and showing modern games can be legit
• Alucard's dream run
• Mewtwo being a fraud
• Terra exposing Charizard in a match nobody thought would be close
• Shepard being exposed by freaking K. Rool
• Noctis being utterly destroyed by a glove
• Kirby crushing all the field then losing to Bowser on what may or may not have been rSSF
• Monika putting the whole board into panic for weeks then getting rekt by Wario

I've said it a million times, but do NOT look at 2017 as reflective of Hollow Knight. The consoles ports mattered a LOT for that game.

2018 had a ton of super close matches between top 20 level characters...i think more than any other contest potentially?

Yeah 2018 was when the gap between the N9 and the rest disappeared for good, so we now have like 15 elite characters who can challenge one another, right below a Noble Six.

2018 definitely had loads of memorable moments. Like Zelda caving Squall’s face in despite bring the underdog. Or Zelda narrowly beating Snake. Or Zelda blowing past Sonic. Or Zelda beating Matio. Or Zelda leading Link. I detect a theme!

It’s the goat contest run because it was all unrallied. Tifa vs. Mega Man X was an all-timer too.

Zelda's run was unreal. I knew she'd beat Squall (which pained me because Squall's my all-time fave), but never imagined she'd rip through the N9ers she encountered.

The original Mario vs Cloud was an all-time classic. I still remember everyone losing their minds because it was the day Mario Sunshine came out on the West Coast (us East Coasters had to wait till the next day) and all the Mario fans on Board 8 were hoping people would get stuck in Sunshine, come to GFAQs, and vote.

What a match. I'd only rank CT/LttP above it.

2018 was a crazy situation where Cloud impressed by still being the #2 guy in this site while Mario disappointed by failing to prove himself after his 2013 loss to Vivi by losing in two matches where he was favored in.

I think when most people say they don't want rallies, they mean contest breaking ones.

Not to mention MMX was rallying just as hard. He just doesn't have as good of porn.
