I felt good about picking Nioh precontest, but I'll admit I thought it would lose before today. Banked in the battle challenge.

Binding of isaac isnt anywhere near the other indies weve seen. Hell id put Ori ahead of BoI even though id put nioh ahead of Dragon age As well

i wonder how many people even played nioh. If baffling so many people took isaac. I think its purely down to very few people caring about nioh and overestimating Isaac. I didnt even look at this match as a debate. I know the nioh fanbase on gamefaqs and with nioh 2 it was a no brainer.

Nioh isnt some turbo fodder game. Its well respected and Isaac doesnt have the following a Hollow or shovel knight game.

the only thing i remember about isaac is the new 3ds port and how bad it was.

having said all of that. Im more surprised how low % nioh is. Thought it would get 60

i look at both games and think...what game is more relevant? Whats more popular right now?

ori 2 just came out. Nioh 2 just came out. Isaac wasnt even good when it came out to begin with.

yes its easy to say after. But if isaac was here winning id have expressed my shock.

Anyway before i go on to tomorrows matches injust want to say how wrong peoples perception of ME3 is

Me3 is a f***ing fantastic video game. A ton of people were angry about the original ending but that subsided. People realised what a great game it was.

starcraft 2 can go **** itself.

Yeah because 'the crew' get everything right.

Well they are experts but of course even experts make mistakes.

There's a lot of hindsight in this topic right now. People picked Isaac because it's by far the most recognizable name of the two for people that haven't played either, plain and simple.

I had Nioh in my bracket but I'd be a liar if I say I was any confident about it.

My reasoning, though, was that Isaac's poll history is godawful. It barely beat Tingle in 2013 with Link in the poll.

If you wanted to pick Isaac, you had to believe it climbed along with the rest of the indies. Which, frankly, was making me fear my pick as the match approached. But in the end, it seems it didn't climb that much.

I also hoped and thought when making my bracket that Nioh's poll value wouldn't translate to its contest strength, it looked awful there and/or that the sequel would help. I thought it was likely before, but lost that confidence during the contest lol.

I guess the sequel that recently came out helped it too.

It's hilarious that after every heavily debated match one side comes in with the, "It's absolutely preposterous that anyone could have possibly considered the other game, I simply cannot believe it. The thought never once crossed my mind, and I just assumed everyone thought the same as me".

Paraphrasing, of course, but I feel like I nailed the tone there.

So today I dreamed that Tales of the Abyss was a 15-seed in one of the last divisions. Somehow, I had overlooked it in the bracket and I was like: “Wait... Wasn't Abyss from last decade? Why is it here? Is it because of its 3DS port? Well that's just not right, Allen”.

Also, I personally wouldn't take any indies to be respectable midcarders, at least defining that as 25%+ on Base Link. However, that's because I'd guess the amount of games in general with that level of strength in this bracket is barely in the double digits.

I think you're either overestimating BotW or underestimating the field. 85 games in the original GOTD were at 25%+ on MM, so you're either saying this field is just that much weaker or BotW is just that much stronger.

I saw plenty of people saying they picked Nioh but I saw zero certainty

As someone who picked Nioh there was certainly not much to base any confidence on while there was reason to lost confidence as the contest progressed. ZeldaTP mentioning the Link/Isaac/Tingle result is probably the best reason other than gut feal and that was 7 years ago.

But it's always like this. People were saying Bastion was super obvious and that much was close enough for no one to say that with certainty. I do believe it's a vocal minority though.

Bastion was one of two picks i was always getting wrong so far. The other being Dragon Age.

Seems every series with a recent release is doing better than expected.

Interested in seeing how this affects Persona 4/5, RE2, FF14/15, etc.

I mean I picked Nioh but I was so unsure I switched to Isaac in my oracle!

Like Ori v Dragon Age, Isaac vs Nioh was an autopilot pick for me when making my bracket when both those matches were worth thinking harder about. I went with the AAA title in the former and the indie in the latter when it should have been the opposite >.>

Also new Vegas has kinda put Stanley Parable away while Dishonored climbed a bit, so the DkSIII > NV upset should be squashed... right?

I think it'll be close, but I'd still favor New Vegas at the moment.

i can show you my bracket if you want. I was absolutely certain.

but my point isnt about being certain or boasting

if this was a 50/50 discussed match i could see the argument

my issue is most gurus picked isaac and im a bit baffled as to why.

but again i guess it goes down to my point about actually playing these games and being relevant in the boards at the time

not for everyone know. But like i said. This match should have been a 60-40 split for people. But it was overwhelmingly in favour of isaac

If anyone's interested in checking out a game that may have stung your bracket, Bastion is $3 on Nintendo eshop right now. Fun little game that IIRC could be beaten in a day.

Bastion is worth $3, easy. I've seen it on sale a lot on the Switch and am always tempted to rebuy it.

I'd much rather spend $3 than dust off my 360. It ain't perfect, but at least digital gaming can offer a lot of convenience.

I really didn't expect Bastion to win at all

Damn Bastion is 1,08 dollars here.

Videogames are usually more expensive in Brazil, but in Steam it's the opposite.

My situation is waiting to get a new computer so I can launch Steam smoothly again, but yeah I hear you -- $3 is less than a rental in many places and it'd be portable on the Switch too.

I still need to go back and beat Bastion one of these days.

I either got Bastion for free or for less than a dollar on PS4 a few years ago, definitely a good game, but it's the 'least great' of the Supergiant games.

Pyre is legitimately one of my games of the decade. It's sports with an amazing story. Their newest game is Hades but I'm waiting for a full release and console port. It's a rogue-like dungeon crawler currently in early access.

Bastion just comes together perfectly. Everything about it is absolutely classic. The other two are still really great, but there's something about doing a double playthrough of it into Evacuation ending that is just so hard to top.

So has anyone played Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana? I consider myself relatively informed about gaming but I have absolutely no idea what the heck this is. And the subtitle doesn't help clarify things either.

You did yes, but a 52/48 match is close enough that no way that was obvious and that's the point. Asking people why in the world they thought TWD would win as if that had no chance of happening is dumb because the 48% is close enough for there to be a chance.

BlAcK TuRtLe thought Bastion was going to be a lot stronger than it turned out to be. IIRC he was considering taking it over DQ11 but ultimately didn't. That's why he thought Bastion was the obvious choice to pick.

I thought Bastion would be okay, but I also thought guilt-simulators would do okay too so I bet on both TWD and LiS.
