Eh, Samus looked pretty much as strong as always, though her individual results were certainly more impressive than usual. Plus, Super Metroid has also improved a bunch, as have both Symphony of the Night and Alucard himself.

I think Assassin Creed will win today by 65%

Dead Cells probably isn't going to win, but it can definitely give MGS5 a scare, at least early

People love the hell out of Dead Cells. I don't think the playrate is as good as something like Cuphead or Shovel Knight but it's still good.

MGS5 was a generation defining game that got cut off at the knees by those f***heads at Konami. If Kojima had been allowed to finish it, it would have won this contest easily

Yeah, I don't care how good MGSV could have been. It wouldn't beat BotW.

Yeah I doubt Galaxy 2 even has the strength possible to do that. 90% is extremely difficult even if you're very strong and Galaxy 2 isn't very strong.

This is an event that I never thought would ever happen, but we have only recently started getting votes from North Korea in our polls. This was the first ever poll to get votes from North Korea:

Most impressively, the debut poll for North Korea saw 2 votes from that country (going off the percentages). It's totally unknown as to whether these votes are coming from tourists visiting North Korea (far more likely) or the actual native population of that country (very unlikely). Ha, so I was trying to find a theory here too about how GDQ marathons have influenced contest strength here with SM as the main evidence...but Undertale was one of their biggest fundraisers ever and it just s*** the bed, so I've laid off exploring other angles of this.

Well here's hoping that Starcraft at the very least looks decent. Great game worthy of the franchise.

How do we know it isn't just a VPN snafu that caused votes to appear to be from North Korea? Because tourism in North Korea is incredibly minimal.

I'm one of those Witcher > Skyrim people, which I partially took just to set myself apart from the cookie bracket, so hopefully tonight is the first step in that not being a horrible mistake.

The 3 seed, Xenoblade, has Splatoon 2, while the 2 seed, Three Houses, has Stick of Truth. Neither should get a blowout, but which will look better?

Three Houses gets a respectable non-blowout performance on Stick of Truth, while Xenoblade looks like a king against Splatoon. I've seen some write off Xenoblade's performance as Nintendo SFF, but guess what? Fire Emblem is Nintendo too! Advantage: Xenoblade. Next round should be interesting as well, as Xenoblade gets to flex its muscles against Overwatch while Three Houses takes on a Metroidvania indie darling.

For today:
I still have faith in Assassin's Creed to be more than low fodder, but if any game is in the perfect position to embarrass it, it's Witcher 3. Witcher has a long way to rise from 2015 - can it show it's worthy of its 1 seed?

I don't know. If ACII could get nearly quadrupled by FFVI last contest, the most respected AC against a game it's so different from, then I have zero faith in Odyssey of all things doing anything to a game from its own time.

ME3 could win here shortly, but I'm surprised it's the heavy Guru favorite -- I'm taking Starcraft 2:

Is ME3 closer to ME2 than SC2 is to SC1? I'm not convinced.

I'll take fourth place (or fifth if Pokemon wasn't LFF'd) in 2010 over second place (which became third place in the next poll) in 2012.

I wouldn't take that 2010 GOTY poll to mean anything. SC2 was initially very hyped but people stopped caring when it wasn't as good as the original and they didn't feel like paying for three separate inferior expansions.

The reason I took ME3 is because we saw ME2 vs Starcraft 1 already. Starcraft 2 could win, but if it does I think it'll be because it gets less anti votes.

Ignoring Undertale , I don't think ME2 looked too different from ME3. IIRC

Five-minute overreaction: feeling pretty good about calling Stardew the potential #1 indie game in the bracket pre-contest!

I am honestly wondering if Destiny is the first case of an entry that would lose to Literally Anything.

We'll have to see the first few post-freeze updates, but so far I am very pleased in The Witcher.
