It makes sense to assume Undertale will have a bad early vote because people who are more tuned in to the contest will be the most likely ones to resent it for the 2015 contest. I don't know if that early vote will extend beyond the first half-hour though.

Smash is gonna rSFF Odyssey solely to make Tekken rank over MK in the x-stats.

2015 was funny, though.

I think this is another case of people not keeping their ear on the ground. DMCV was hyped af as the new greatest action game, which might not mean much here but it's enough to get it past a B-list Wii U game (which is a D-list console)

Draven ended up 2% later at the end of the match with Ammy than in the first hour or so.

Then you've got no gauge period. And if you've played both games liek i have and been on both boards throughout these times you'd understand why i am confident MK11 being more popular than Tekken 7.

I may really love Undertale, but really I'm mostly hoping it comes on top because of how much I hate Octopath Traveler <_<

I'm not sure why so many if you were high Tropical Freeze. It was always going to be several orders of magnitude worse than DKC2, which only looked alright in a year of SNES dominance

I have nothing against Undertale, Octopath is my second-favorite game this gen by far and I was expecting it to be too niche to beat a natural-strength Undertale, so I’m glad it’s actually winning right now!

I'll be fragrantly annoyed if Odyssey wins after people talked me out of that upset pick.

Glad Dante finally has his day after years of choking.

DMVC would be winning with 60%+ if DK didn't get a switch port. I'm fairly sure of this. And you're right. WiiU was an abysmal console. Does Wii U have any Representation here apart from some Switch ports? Where 3D World?

I personally think that seeing things like CT/FF7 and the "natural state" of Pokemon against Mario would've been more interesting than what Undertale did. I admit I don't have exact data on how many people feel the same way, but I do recall that there was a poll after that contest for "Will you play Undertale after it won the contest?" and "No, I refuse to ever play it out of spite" was one of the most popular answers.

EDIT: I actually did forget it was Melee that screwed over CT, lol. Still, that applies to the general philosophy of whether these big rallies make these contests more fun or less.

25%-ish of this site was so butthurt over a contest they swore they'd never try it as a result of that contest. What do you expect?

Hate to see it lose to a cookie cutter JRPG but the writing was on the wall given every character from a massively rallied series got toasted in the previous contest and the only places that rallied it before are beyond dead at this point.

my instincts for this contest have been way off so far!

but I wouldn't mind being wrong if it means we finally got another decently strong Mario game around here

Yes people raged and rallied for MElee after Undertale was screwing everything up. Not Melees Fault.

Most people were calling DMC5/Tropical Freeze debatable. Unless DMC5 soars to 60%+ or something, you aren't really justified in calling it an obvious result.

I like Octopath a lot too. People who are genuine fans weren't the people I was responding too- it was the once who are going "ree Undertale ruined my contest".

I think Octopath is a well made but very forgetful and Nostalgic driven game.

The only games in this bracket i'd vote Undertale over is GTAV and Xenoblade 2.

It was reasonable to assume after Donkey Kong looked so good in 2018 that maybe he could pull this off.

Chrono Trigger lost to Melee. Final Fantasy 7 followed it, also to Melee.

So you're ok with rallies, just not Undertale's?

I was extremely worried about Octopath beating Undertale as soon as I saw that matchup. I still picked it to win two matches (nooot really looking in the cards even if it comes back), but Sans getting tripled by Pac-man was always in the back of my head.

Mario Odyssey/MK11 can only be explained through one simple thing:

it was a really really tough call pre-contest, basically a coin flip

Octopath Traveler is a great game. The absolute gold standard for turn-based RPG gameplay, looks and sounds great, tons of content, 6/8 stories are great. Undertale is top ten of the decade for me but I’m not mad if Octopath wins.

Killer contest so far.

It was Undertale’s fault that Mario beat Cloud in 2002.

It was Undertale's fault that Final Fantasy X didn't win GotD in 2010.

IF you can't understadn that concept then i'm surprised. ITs liek you're saying franchise strength matters little. Which isn't the case

You have 0 evidence or even thoeries on why T7 might be stronger. I've listed many. So You've got no leg to stand on.

Octopath is one of the biggest cases of missed potential I've ever played. The aesthetics and combat system are very good, and the characters are charming, but the lack of meaningful party interaction and the general weakness of its writing leaves it feeling shallow. Also the ranger girl's accent gave me a headache.
