In all of the splits besides TWD the winner was favored more by registered users, right? Could it be a heavy bracket voting effect (particularly due to the forced votes)? It’s easier to have an opinion on characters whose games you haven’t played than the games themselves.

Bracket voting may be playing somewhat of a role in these splits, but I think the forced voting is a much bigger factor. There's also the fact that characters are much easier to vote for as you can base your vote on character design alone if you aren't interested in researching more information about the character such as their back story or personality (which some people factor into their votes). Games are harder to vote for as they generally requires hands on exposure with the game to make a properly informed decision on which game to vote in each match, as the other alternative would be watching gameplay footage of the game on Youtube or another site.

Its doing pretty well tbf. New game from CV makers and lets not forget the garbage Switch version that kind of ruined its momentum.

Also people keep underrating Borderlands 2.

Yes its one of the weakest GOTY winner we've had but the game itself was popular and won GOTY for a reason...a ton of people played it, loved it and voted for it, myself included.

Lets not just dismiss it as canon fodder.

Well thats the thing....Bastion is a game a ton of the "Hardcores" might vote for instead of TWD because tell tale games don't appeal to them.

With more than a 7% difference between registered and anonymous users in the Monster Hunter and Sekiro matches, we are officially in territory that only appeared twice during the entire 2018 contest (one of them being a rallied match). Aloy/D.Va and Monika/Wario were the only 2 matches in 2018 to have more than a 7% difference between registered and anonymous users.

The Walking Dead/Bastion had about a 6% difference, while Dragon Quest XI/Trails SC was about a 4.5% difference.

The overall trend from yesterday's matches was huge splits between registered and anonymous users, even greater than the usual splits we saw in the 2018 contest. If the effect of forced voting in all 4 matches wasn't already apparent, we may be seeing that effect even worse with the last set of matches.

Registered users only made up about 54.43% of yesterday's votes, a drop off from Day 1's 55.09%. But still well above the percentage of registered users for the 2018 contest. It was expected that the percentage of registered users would drop after Day 1 as more casuals on this site find out there's a contest running.

Oh God, I'm screwed, aren't I?

Monster Hunter-Bravely Default I at least thought could go either way. Ironically I probably would've gone with Monster Hunter if it actually *was* a WRPG, but Capcom was such trash in 2018 that I figured the pseudo-Final Fantasy game would take it. Seeing that it was the registered voters that really carried MH is a bit disturbing...but not as disturbing as seeing that they were a lot higher on Sekiro than the anonymous voters. I never even considered the possibility of Sekiro winning that match, because Ni No Kuni is a JRPG and Sekiro is an action-adventure game. If I'd done the extra research and learned that despite the very Japanese name, it was in fact developed by Activision, a western company, I might've honestly considered taking Ni No Kuni to double it, and not out of any illusion that Ni No Kuni was anything but fodder itself.

Oh, I doubt it's as bad as it looked in that poll. I'm not worried about ME2 next round, if nothing else. I think you're just seeing the difference between something like Fallout 4 and Walking Dead or Tales of Berseria.
From my perception, people didn't know what to make of RE7 when it came out, due to how wildly it had deviated from any previous RE formulas. Appreciation for the game grew over time.
Black Turtle did a pretty good job.

Once Re2r was confirmed to not be first person a lot of people were more comfortable with appreciating RE7 as its own thing.

RE7;s GOTY performances shouldn't be taken that seriously.

Also 2017 was stacked like a mother f***er. An iterative game like RE which people "enjoyed" isn't going to cut it with games like friggin Persona 5, Horizon and Nier Automata against it, Hell Cuphead destroyed it on the Xbox poll and it lost to PUBG in the PC one.

GOTY polls should be taken with a grain of salt..

If we go by GOTY polls...God of War should have a shot at making the finals. But we all know its not going to be anywhere near it.

Peoples perception of games change over time. For good or for bad.
