The story seemed pretty solid, at least. Meanwhile I must have beaten Bastion a dozen times and actually tried to speedrun it for a little bit. Transistor is similarly incredible. Well, props to everyone who had the massive balls to actually pick Bastion here. That's one of the only games in the bracket I hadn't heard of prior, tbh. I expected TWD to lose a step, but I didn't think it'd bomb this badly. I wasn't as down on Bravely Default as most, though, so I'm still feeling okay about Monster Hunter > Sekiro. The music was thud-like. The music was... thud-like. |

games suck really bad on this site. But I also blame my bias, as I'm
actively playing through the game for the first time (and enjoying it).

surprised to see make the bracket. I'm so happy it's making a match of

In
fact I think you can group the indie games in this contest into three
distinct groups: the early hits, the modern classics, and the Just Happy
To Be Here. The early hits wouldn't make nearly as a big a splash if
they came out today, but they gained notoriety for being good games that
helped put Indie Games as a whole on the map. The modern classics are
indie games that managed to stand out among the veritable ocean of indie
games out right now, and thus have really strong fanbases. This group
will overall be the strongest. The Just Happy To Be Here games are good
and relatively popular, but they aren't as well-regarded as the Modern
Classics and don't have the nostalgic edge of the Early Hits. They
might've taken the indie scene by storm back at the start of the decade,
but there's just too many options nowadays. They're the weak link. TWD
has a 94 on Metacritic, high GameFAQs rating, won the most GotY awards
that year including the VGAs, and did well in the GotY polls. It didn’t
look like a disaster in 2015 either. However, the brand has crashed since then, and seasons of the game after the first were not nearly as good. Then there is the Telltale implosion which will still be fresh in people’s minds. Nobody likes it, yeah right. It was a revelation when it came out. However, Bastion seems more legit than expected. Telltale TWD Season 1 is a f***ing all time classic. One of the only games to ever make me cry the series did not stay that good in following seasons for sure, but man what is this hate. Also tying the show to the game makes very little sense, they completely different. I love the show, but I 100% get people not liking it. I am Nick. Go Sens, Bills, Blue Jays! I actually have no idea what it is and I know basically everything in
this bracket. Disco Elysium I excluded because a game that won as many awards as it really doesn't deserve to be in a tier called 'Just Happy To Be Here' but on GameFAQs it's not going to do so great. Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |

TWD
is probably stronger in a Game of the Decade-sense -- it truly
reinvented point-and-click games and tied cinema to gameplay in an
influential way. I predict it's stronger in this contest than it was
when it faced UC4. Star Wars is the king of bad fanbases and no one can convince me otherwise Life is Strange has always been treated like an indie game by people, at least from what I've seen, but if it doesn't belong on the list then sure whatever Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
