GameFAQs Contests

I don’t think that gamefaqs collection data is worth much to begin with (who even uses that feature?), but you’re only looking at one platform for Hollow Knight. It has another ~750ish owners if you factor the non-Switch versions. For your BK_Sheikah00. At least Kupo has class and doesn't MESSAGE the people -Dr Pizza |
There
are indie games in this bracket like Edith Finch that seem to be the
model a lot of people assumed every indie game fell under: critically
acclaimed but no one played them so who gives a damn Indies like Cuphead Hollow Knight and Undertale are very clearly more than just a cut above that; they're heavy presences in their own right, and thanks to their low price tags have pretty good play rates and sales. Those games probably sold better than a lot of the upper middle weights in bracket (in terms of contest strength) like DQXI and FE3H If
you're only on this board to whine about "SJWs", please redirect
whatever you type on to the nearest trash can. And hop in after it. (edited 3/26/2020 6:52:24 PM)report |
This is the most interesting registered/anonymous user voting split from the first hour of votes: Hollow Knight vs. Tales of Berseria Registered Vote Result: Hollow Knight - 748 (66.55%) Tales of Berseria - 372 (33.10%) Anonymous Vote Result: Hollow Knight - 336 (59.05%) Tales of Berseria - 237 (41.65%) Though the sample size is kind of small, which can skew things a bit. Obviously this can change quite a bit before the end of the match. Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as Advokaiser, Guru Champ! |
I
don’t think being non-Square is damning these days, Square aren’t the
kings of RPGs these days and have probably been replaced by Sony as the
dominant non-Nintendo force in this contest. I just decided to change this sig. Blaaaaaaargh Advokaiser |
lol fails Did people seriously pick a third tier Tales game to beat a beloved Metroidvania? For those that haven't played it, Hollow Knight is fantastic "Like Darth Maul, the bastard child of Michael Flatley and hellboy" - trancer1 lol xstats (edited 3/26/2020 7:03:29 PM)report |

It has another ~750ish owners if you factor the non-Switch versions. It's the same with Berseria which has another 560 owners on alternate platforms. I think lots of folks would scoff at that metric, but I think it's pretty good at revealing a game's popularity. The popular games will generally have higher numbers than the less popular ones. I've used it to help decide some of the matches that I was totally in the dark for. Funnily I didn't use it for this matchup since I assumed Berseria would win it easily Pokemon GO: 8973-4950-4215 / Fire Emblem Heroes: 193-150-4677 Switch: https://imgur.com/wNDqTmg |
I wasn't aware the contest has started. Having the polls on top of every page (or at least more than the home page), or at least an announcement, might be nice. Into the woods, but mind the past... Into the woods, but mind the future! |
_SecretSquirrel posted... Since it's a new topic, can anyone else think of what the numbers for the match pics might be?These numbers seem to correlate with announcement date. The lowest number is FFXV which was announced as FFXIII Versus way back in the day. Halo: Reach is second lowest as it came out in 2010. Third lowest is BotW which was announced quite a long time before it came out in 2017. Outer Worlds is the newest game, and it has the highest number. Advokaiser is the man. Congrats! |
LeonhartFour posted... it's been announced for like the last two weeksI meant like even a strip on top of the page like that "Which of the 128 games will win Game of the Decade? Enter your bracket now!" thing we had for...yeah, two weeks. Changing it to "Game of the Decade contest has started. Cast your vote now!" or something like that wouldn't been too hard technically, I imagine. Into the woods, but mind the past... Into the woods, but mind the future! |
I
think the real story today is what an absolute egg Halo is laying here.
Given a less predictable placement, I might have lost points on Halo.
Luckily it has one of the most set in stone paths in the contest. But seriously, who besides former Tumblr blogger actually played or enjoyed Life is Strange? Did all the Tumblrinas come to GameFAQs when their platform was shut down unceremoniously? "Like Darth Maul, the bastard child of Michael Flatley and hellboy" - trancer1 lol xstats |

SirRobX posted... The whole Tales of series is in a sad state if its best game of the decade is losing to an indie title that hardly anyone has playedGo look at Hollow Knight’s sales and clout. That is absolutely the sort of game that gets extra respect from people seeing GAME OF THE DECADE on the page. What were FE16's sales like compared to every other JRPG in this contest? Crossed fingers, crossed hemispheres. |
yes I have friends who like LiS and have never been tumblr users Also I watched a full play through of it on Giantbomb and enjoyed it and I have never been a tumblr person either. For your BK_Sheikah00. At least Kupo has class and doesn't MESSAGE the people -Dr Pizza |
I
almost took Bastion over DQ11, after seeing HK lay a beating on an
obscure JRPG, I'm wondering if switching to DQ11 was a mistake. "Like Darth Maul, the bastard child of Michael Flatley and hellboy" - trancer1 lol xstats |

Luckily it has one of the most set in stone paths in the contest. Me and a lot of other B8ers. It’s s great game that was widely acclaimed. This is a solid but unremarkable Halo performance, especially given how far the franchise has fallen. Also wouldn’t this mean like 40% on Fallout 3? Then again you said Tumblrinas unironically so what am I even doing responding. I just decided to change this sig. Blaaaaaaargh Advokaiser (edited 3/26/2020 7:14:42 PM)report |

I even paid for it before it was free lol. I wonder if there are any stats of how many people download those games when they're on PS+, and then how many of them actually play them. Even if it's free a lot of people might not bother downloading a game they have no interest in. If

I
enjoyed Life is Strange, but mostly because I streamed it and had
people on discord laughing at / commenting on the plot and the
questionable decisions I was making. I don't think I would have enjoyed
it as much as a strictly single player game. It had a lot of weird
game decisions, like the bottle hunting in the junkyard for no reason
that did nothing but waste your time. Also, I'm one of those people who only played Edith Finch due to it being on PS+. Think fast. Click faster. |

LordOfDabu posted... like the bottle hunting in the junkyard for no reason that did nothing but waste your time.Usually fetch quests like that in these kinds of games are to get you to explore and interact with the environment, hearing all of Max's thoughts and reading the flavor text. But yah that was one of the more tedious examples of that sort of game design, and the game even mocks that quest in episode 5 If

I've played Edith Finch. Still voted for FFXV |
2/4 today. Ah well. Hollow Knight is the surprise here. I don't think HK is that great but it's clearly got a fanbase. I don't expect it to be among the strongest of indie games, but it's reasonable to see it have a chance to be in conversations about that next tier of them. For me, I see its strongest correlating game with Shovel Knight -- nevermind the indy-part and Knight-part, they're both eponymous Kickstarter games with some depth in its other characters, encouraged exploration, had ongoing support, and featured distinct art styles. They are both near the top for indy successes in recent years too, broadly speaking. I don't think either of them leave the second round, but this looks good for them. Shovel Knight was always making round 2, I think the more interesting parallel is with Ori. As someone who pretty much nailed HK in my Oracle, Ori will lose but Shovel Knight will win. "Like Darth Maul, the bastard child of Michael Flatley and hellboy" - trancer1 lol xstats |
Ori's in an interesting position for an x-factor with its sequel releasing a few days ago. O P E R A T I O N O U S T : Nominate SHEIK! https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/ssb/images/0/0d/Sheik-Victory3-SSB4.png |

MoogleKupo141 posted... there’s a solid chance Hollow Knight has outsold every game in the Tales series. The most I can find is 2013/2014 where Bamco said Symphonia was the most successful (around like 1.5 million or some such at that time). Since then I think Berseria and Zestiria also surpassed 1 million sales. Hollow Knight has definitely outsold every game in the series. You felt your sins weighing on your neck. Aso who actually had Beseria>HK Just going over my main bracket and secondary fun bracket where i pick the other "debatable pick" and both i have HK. I'm not a guru or anything i've ony finished in overall top 10 once back in 2006. But Beseria had no chance to beat HK. And i don't see many people picked it This isn't Persona 4 GTA because i suspect a lot of people picked Persona. Not me though i have RDR beating both persona and GTA. BlAcK TuRtLe posted... lol I barely play the switch, I haven't turned it on swince beat DQXIS. I have 0 interest in Animal Crossing, but clearly its a hugely popular platform right now that everyone goes nuts over. Even when a medicore port comes over they go gaga But I also didn't have time to beat Persona 5 back in the day because that game was 100 hours and i spent most of my time away from home. You can talk about your Skyrims and Witchers all day long...those games went through significant downgrades to be on Switch visually. Persona 5 is tailor made for switch. A 100 hour turn based JRPG that a PS3 can run. Its also Atlus's most successful game of all time. (edited 3/26/2020 8:16:48 PM)report |
