So that's like 1 PM Eastern on the 26th, right?

When did matches start last time? I know we went to a weird start time as a sort of anti-rally measure, but I don't remember it being 2 in the afternoon. Maybe I'm just forgetful.

Even though it says this, there is a possibility, maybe even a likelihood, of the contest starting Wednesday, March 25th based on the last contest.

The "None" option consistently got between 8% and 11% in all of the above polls. The time of the year didn't affect its percentage at all. So it's pretty apparent that the coronavirus situation is forcing a lot more people into a situation where they haven't gone outside at any point during the past 24 hours.

Here are the 5 toughest matches to pick, at least IMO:

Hollow Knight vs Tales of Berseria
  • HK has the seeding advantage (bracket votes), likely the pic advantage (Berseria's box art doesn't scream "Vote for me"), and the advantage of being on the Switch.
  • Berseria has RPGFAQs and the benefit of being part of a well-loved series. The question is, did enough people play it? Do enough people care about Tales of non-Symphonia on this site?

Persona 4 Golden vs Red Dead Redemption (and GTAV if P4G wins)
  • P4G should get a boost thanks to P5 and Joker in Smash (I think Joker's appearance in Smash helped the entire Persona series, not just P5). RPGFAQs. Series votes.
  • RDR did okay against SotC back in 2015 and should get a boost thanks to RDR2. P4G is deeply loved on this site, but will it's "enhanced remake" status hurt it? Does the fact that P4 is only playable on Vita and PS2 hurt it? Handheld games tend to have a low ceiling in these contests.

Monster Hunter vs Sekiro
  • MH has Smash exposure, is part of a series, has a recent expansion
  • Sekiro finished 3rd in last years GotY polls.

Animal Crossing New Leaf vs Red Dead Redemption 2
  • AC will get a boost because of the Switch AC. Has Smash exposure, NintendoFAQs.
  • RDR2 finished 3rd in 2018 GotY polls. Casual appeal. Isn't a handheld game; appeared on multiple consoles

Dark Souls vs The Last of Us
  • DS comfortably defeated MGSV in 2015. Part of a decade-defining series. Appears on multiple consoles, not just Sony ones.
  • TLoU is widely praised for its story and often regarded as the best PS3 game ever. Has a sequel coming out this year.

In all honesty it could mean that. It does say starting the 26th March and midnight UTC is the 26th. On the other hand he could mean American time which is tomorrow night instead. It's all about weird tbh and not clear at all.

If it's the same as last contest, it starts tonight. However, last contest it never mentioned any other time zones besides UTC.
This isn't even a question. There's nothing anywhere in the rules that specifically says it starts on the 26th UTC, whereas everything from the entry banner on down says both bracket entries close and the contest starts on the 26th in PDT/EDT.

Yes, and to take the confusion even further, countries in the South Hemisphere tend to have their DST in reverse to the North Hemisphere, since our summer is during your winter (so DST here would start October and end in February).

That said, in my country only the states that were far enough from the Equator Line had DST. The ones close to it didn't, since seasons basically don't exist in there.
The_Ctes 3/25/2020 4:43:51 PM#190

It doesn't even work anymore. At least here, the point of DST was to flatten the energy curve by preventing people from turning on the lights at the same they took their daily showers. It didn't actually reduce energy consumption, but reduced the peak, which helped prevent the need for public spending in more power plants.

But now, thanks to global warming and to air conditioners getting cheaper, the peak here is around 2 PM, which has nothing to do with turning lights on. So DST became useless.

The only one of these I have even a shadow of doubt about is P4/RDR, and even then I'm pretty confident in RDR.

RDR2 easily
Dark Souls easily

I think if RDR beats P4G. It beats GTAV as well. RDR is far more popular among the hardcore Rockstar fanbase.

PErsona 4 Golden has the potential to beat both RDR and GTAV....or just get 60-40'd by RDR and go out with a wimper

I'm hoping it makes it to Xenoblade/FE though
