At least the PotD area still shows up on the homepage despite no poll. Prior to last year's update (late March 2019) which made the PotD easier to find for people on mobile, there would have been absolutely no PotD area present on the homepage if there was no poll currently running.

Well, we've had no match pic to start a match, but it always ended up there within the first hour.

This is not the first time we didn't have a poll running. It's happened a few times in the past, but very rarely. CJayC ran this poll back in 2006:

You could probably tell from the vote totals that the poll ran for maybe 3 to 5 hours, going off the vote totals for other polls during that time period.

but it does make boring matches go by faster...some matches are just too dull for a 24 hours, especially with how weak the trends have become (does ASV exist anymore??)

There's zero need for 12 hour matches now that he can just run multiple matches per day. We only went to 12 hour matches when we had really big brackets so the contest wouldn't take forever.

Geographical trends still exist and 12 hour matches would mean we'd have to put a bunch of asterisks on match results... again.

Last time Allen did that it caused the Noble Nine to live 8 years longer than it deserved to.

12 hour matches would minimize the number of matches a rallied fanbase can affect so that might be a good thing.

I would only believe this if he had started the poll exactly at 12:00 PM EST, which was not the case here. Looking at the source code of the data used for the Geolocation results and poll graphs, I can see that the poll had 13 votes at 12:35 PM EST. This implies the poll just shortly before 12:35 PM. That's an unusual time to be starting a poll if you're planning to change the poll start time for the contest.

I agree that 24 hour matches are better, but most people got a phone with an Internet connection now so it shouldn’t matter to people who care since it only takes like 20 seconds to go to this site and vote.

Also, there's no reason to have 12-hour matches if we already have 24-hour, multiple matches a day. Some games/characters are too dependent on the trends of the hour, and there are many inconveniences with that format, at least in comparison. If we have a boring match, we can always look at another one that's more interesting.

Who likes watching a football game end at halftime. Or play beer bong but only have 5 shots each. That's wack.

The "view results" link simply took you to the listing of past polls, as no poll was active.

Yo luster can you give us some hit facts about the average waiting period between noms closing and the bracket going live so I can put them in the collection

It's about 9 months if we assume the Quotes Contest bracket comes out today.

Tanner is not a bad character at all. DRIV3R ruined his character, which is different. Tanner is a badass in Driver and especially Driver 2.

I dig this. I feel like "worst game" can be way more solid than "worst character", just based on name recognition and reputation. It's cooler to say: "Man, can't wait for Big Rigs to wreck everything in its way!" than saying: "Yeah, like, Chester sucks… Wait, who was that again?".

It's crazy a 50% is meant to mean average but for games anything lower than a 7 is considered bargain bin.

Trails isn't popular, sadly.

It arrived a generation too late for Gamefaqs.

Skyrim > SSBU was going to be my upset special but they don't even meet. I think SSBU is overrated but there's nothing to take advantage of that. It cruises to BotW and gets killed there.

So I'm not sure if I can really participate in this contest. I have played a grand total of zero of these games. I may have played SSBU for all of an hour. I watched some videos of the cutscenes of Skyward Sword. But I really have no idea what these games are or how strong they should be.

Witcher 3 making the finals is my current upset special.

On one hand, this is one of the most interesting brackets ever, because it has a gazillion new entrants, is not dominated by nintendo/square most of the matches, and seems very hard to predict.

On the other hand, I have played maybe 5% of the games in the bracket and heard of maybe 40%. Most of those names are just names to me. It might get hard for me to get engaged because of that.

Also, no Ace Attorney makes this bracket lose 1 point of of 10 from the start.

You might as well have it win at that point. Getting CDPR to rally for at least the finals should be doable.

I just think its going to intrinsically be the strongest non-Nintendo game. The franchise has been on a constant upswing.

To be honest i've got Witcher 3 in the final as well. Although i'm just going on how well it did last time out. Also it looks like it has a really decent draw.

First match is after the Daylight savings switch so the time zone conversion won't be accurate anymore when the contest starts.
