I totally miss when some polls used to be sponsored polls. The last time I remember a sponsored poll happening was back in 2010, for about 3 weeks back in September. You can see one of these sponsored polls right here:

I think GameFAQs used to look better, or maybe I am using wrong theme now..

There were sponsored polls once? Damn. Also look at the votes on that poll. More than 75.000!

Definitely tracking today's poll as this poll has a history of having strong trends in the past.

Noms have been open for a month now. Surely it's almost time for them to close.

And then for vote-ins to begin.

Anyone remember how often we have had vote-ins?

I am guessing that nobody cares to put nominations so they just leave that as long as possible.

We had vote-ins for Character Battle VIII, Game of the Decade (2000s), Rivalry Rumble, and Best Year in Gaming.

We didn't have them for Character Battle IX, but with a 243-character bracket, everyone that would have had to go to the vote-ins for a 128-entrant bracket just made it in outright, with plenty of room leftover even. Character Battle X and Best Game Ever III had no vote-ins either.

I don't know why we would need vote ins when it would be choosing between which turbo fodders get clobbered in the first round given how weak this field is going to be.

Vote-ins would allow our favorite turbofodders to have a chance to participate in an official GameFAQs poll, which would be nice.
Advokaiser picked Cloud in Guru and rained on my bracket.
At least I finished 20th overall!

I love vote-ins because it gives us near-useless data to quote for the next decade as to reasons why we should never nominate anything ever again

This.

Murasaki better be there.

Edit: There's also a good reason to have vote-ins: to know more good games by putting them in the spotlight. (Dark Cloud 1 and 2 are still in my wishlist.)

Edit 2: We can also make fun stats comparisons like what percentage would OoT put into the weakest vote-in contestant.

No vote-ins today. I wouldn't expect vote-ins tomorrow given that we're probably likely to get some kind of poll related to Valentine's Day. So that leaves the weekend days for some possible vote-in polls if they do happen.

I'm not sure why anyone's expecting vote-ins. The only time in the past eight years we had any was BYIG, when one single match was necessary due to its format, and that was indeed all we got. In particular, no contest where Allen needed to spend time determining the field via a combination of noms and other metrics has had vote-ins.

The previous GotD contest had plenty of fodder, and we still got vote-ins for that one. The average game strength in this contest won't be significantly lower than the previous GotD contest. At the very most, this field will be only slightly weaker.

I like couch multiplayer, but I don't have that many, very few of those are gamers and very few of the ones who are games still live in the same city as me.

And online multiplayer is usually cancerous.
Big Bob 2/13/2020 10:24:49 AM#336
Most people are garbage, online or offline. I like playing Fortnite, but I only play solo matches unless a certain challenge requires otherwise, because playing with random strangers means dealing with racist 13-year olds. People s***-talk me for the dumbest reasons.

If you actually have friends who you can set matches up with, then multiplayer is awesome. However, in general it's too much of a hassle, so most of my playtime is solo.

This is why I love Fortnite.

Not your experience specifically. That was awful and I'm sorry you have to deal with it.

But Fortnite by itself made every other online community better by default, because that's where all the moron screaming children play now.

The Boss, Jecht, and Big Daddy also won matches in 2010. Resident Evil 5 won a match in GOTD. Raiden/Vamp and Big Boss/The Boss won a match in Rivalry Rumble.

So yeah, it's produced at least one winner in every contest it's been a part of except for Years which barely counts.
Resident Evil 5 was only the moral winner of its match against Tales of Symphonia.

Vote-Ins tend to produce at least one winner because you get the strongest of a set of 60-ish entrants that usually includes third-tier characters from strong entries, and usually there's a weakling or two in the 3-4 seed range as well as some mere midcarders.
