IGN are hosting a poll on their youtube channel for game of the decade. After 600k votes:- GTA 5 - 33% Witcher 3 - 24% LoZ BotW - 16% Last of Us - 14% RDR 2 - 13% Well done to Advokaiser for finishing 104 places above me in the 2018 CBX Guru Contest! |
Huh, a new contest. Guess I should start following this topic again. Let's Play Octopath Traveler (SSLP) https://mega64.net/index.php/lp/ot |

Yesterday's poll almost reached 13k. I hope votals go up on the next several weeks as well. It's an honor being part of Board 8's community. |

If the PS5 is backwards-compatible with every past system, I'm definitely in. Otherwise, not interested. It's an honor being part of Board 8's community. |
Advokaiser posted... If the PS5 is backwards-compatible with every past system, I'm definitely in. Otherwise, not interested. The one ultra negative aspect with true BC is that every ps1-ps3 game out there that has held relative value will double overnightm |
PS5 is going to be backwards compatible with PS4, so that's good news for those who don't have a PS4 yet. It's not very likely to have native hardware-based compatibility for the earlier systems before PS4. To support PS1, PS2, and PS3 means including extra hardware inside the PS5 to emulate those earlier systems. Playing games from the earlier systems will require the use of PlayStation Now, a cloud gaming service. LusterSoldier posted... PS5 is going to be backwards compatible with PS4, so that's good news for those who don't have a PS4 yet. This is most likely the case. I doubt there are enough people with a physical PSX library left to make the price difference count (in sonys eyes anyways) Now I'm going to say we really need a Metal Gear Solid IV HD port for PS5 |
Americans don't like XBOX it seems. So why we exist? What happens when we stop existing? |
PS4
and Switch dominated this gen, on GameFAQs and in the real world. I am
not surprised PS5 is the console people are looking forward to. ... |

Cavedweller2000 posted... IGN are hosting a poll on their youtube channel for game of the decade. Geez those votals are pretty impressive. Meanwhile, each year we are getting closer to the Touhou rally striking range. Luckily, by the time we get there, I don't think anyone will care enough about our contest to rally in it. |
GameFAQs could shut down and I could see a number of people here starting their own website to host/discuss these contests. "Like Darth Maul, the bastard child of Michael Flatley and hellboy" - trancer1 lol xstats |
i
don't think the low vote numbers are an indication of overall GameFAQs
traffic and revenue situation. Gamefaqs users just don't probably care
about the contests any longer , can we blame them? we have had way too
many...and even the poll, running one every.single.day for what now, 20
years?! again, way too many freaking polls. The PoTD should be weekly
thing or even monthly. ... |
De-routinizing the PotD among our remaining diehard voters would only further murder votals. I think many people who are still on gamefaqs and active and might conceivably kinda-sorta care just see no particular reason to ever visit the main page and therefore don't vote. [NO BARKLEY NO PEACE] [NO Advokaiser NO PEACE] |
I vote in the PotD maybe once a month. (edited 1/17/2020 2:29:30 PM)report |
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/poll/5959-why-are-you-visiting-gamefaqs-today If I'm reading this right, removing the poll would kill nearly 43% of the votals. That's... something. It's an honor being part of Board 8's community. |
Advokaiser posted... https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/poll/5959-why-are-you-visiting-gamefaqs-today Removing the poll would kill 100% of the votals because there would be no poll. Also, the poll percentage is skewed high because you'd have to see the poll to vote in it anyway. Advokaiser picked Cloud in Guru and rained on my bracket. At least I finished 20th overall! |
swirIdude posted... Also, the poll percentage is skewed high because you'd have to see the poll to vote in it anyway. Yeah, if you look at the past history of that poll, you'll see that "I'm just here for the Poll" has gained percentage in every future re-run after the first appearance of that poll. And since most voters in the polls are long-time users, that's going to skew the results towards the poll option. Very few votes are coming from people visiting the site for the first time, as most of them are coming through a Google search result and bypassing the homepage completely. swirIdude posted... Removing the poll would kill 100% of the votals because there would be no poll. I meant "43%" as in "having a future poll after a period of no polls". But I don't see it skewed since, well, they're "only here for the poll". You can be doing more things on the site than just voting on the poll. LusterSoldier posted... Very few votes are coming from people visiting the site for the first time, as most of them are coming through a Google search result and bypassing the homepage completely. That's my point. Long-time users are the ones that actively vote in the polls, therefore removing them would mean losing a ton of votes on future polls when featured (as in, maybe having them only at contests or something). It's an honor being part of Board 8's community. |
I'd argue the poll is more skewed nowadays since it used to be now that the poll appears on the bottom in the phone version. So anyone who votes in the poll while on phone is probably looking for the poll specifically. |
I'd say that a few of those 'I'm just here for the poll' votes are joke votes |
I
don't play video games, I don't even know what a Mario is, but when I

yeah this is taking too long. He needs to give the rest of gamefaqs time to nominate and then there is bracket period. ... |
Noms are finally on the front page, although not exactly placed in a prominent position. |
also we have a fancy banner with all the GOTY winners this decade on it I suppose that's as much of an endorsement of RE2's eligibility as anything! |
Definitely tracking poll updates for today's poll: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/poll/7853- When I tracked that poll back in 2011, it showed very strong trends that clearly highlighted a difference between registered users and unregistered users. The unregistered users were far less likely to visit the site on a regular basis, and this group of users was least pronounced during the first few hours of a new poll (or the contest matches from the 2018 contest). well the finalists were Borderlands 2, Mass Effect 3, and Xenoblade so yeah |
Mass

I
think Xenoblade wins that rematch pretty easily these days. Borderlands

KamikazePotato posted... I think Xenoblade wins that rematch pretty easily these days. Borderlands and Mass Effect don't carry the same weight they used to.I very highly doubt this. More people (way more) know Shulk as a Smash Bros character than a Xenoblade character. That is a very, very small series. It only matters on sites that like RPGs, and even then it’s only barely. Borderlands would utterly destroy it, and I am not a fan of those games at all. already looked better than Borderlands 2 in 2015. Just barely lost to
DKC2 which got 38% on Symphony of the Night while Borderlands 2 got 41%

Cavedweller2000 posted... IGN are hosting a poll on their youtube channel for game of the decade. Makes no sense. Having been on that site on and off during the last 10 years i Expected Witcher to be 1, BOTW number 2 and then a huge gap. Those two games are consistently the most bummed. But there are a bunch of casuals who vote i guess This is the site where the users gave s***e Stranding GOTY. So no surprise |

Poll updates and trend charts for yesterday's poll: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14PmFnPgwYASnutdjA905NiOFiQLjl3k_gseE3lVMeCo/pub?gid=1261620550 "Several times a day" has gone from 35.44% in the 2011 poll to 27.88% in yesterday's poll, with "Around once a day" absorbing almost all of this lost percentage. The last 4 options largely maintain their percentages from the 2011 poll, although "A few times a week" has dropped off slightly while "A few times a year" and "First time this year, if ever" going up somewhat. This is one of very few polls based around the split between registered users and unregistered users. In the case of this poll, the registered users heavily favor "Several times a day" and "Around once a day" to a lesser extent, while the other 4 options fare very poorly with registered users. Unregistered users mostly favor the last 4 options. The 2018 contest showed us that the first few hours of a match gets the highest percentage of incoming votes from registered users and this steadily decreases over the course of the match before hitting rock bottom during the last few hours of the match. This trend also applies to regular polls. "Several times a day" performs best with the board vote, but drops off pretty hard by the end of the Power Hour. There was no point in this poll where "Several times a day" held the lead over "Around once a day", although the 2 options were tied at the freeze. But after the board vote came to an end, "Around once a day" took control of this poll for good. At the end of the Power Hour, "Several times a day" had 36.41% and went on to lose a total of 8.53% for the rest of the poll to finish with 27.88%. "Several times a day" fell apart so badly by the end of this poll that it managed to lose an entire hour to "A few times a week" near the end of the poll. "Around once a day" had a bad board vote, ASV, and SNV. The Power Hour was fairly average, and it did best during the night vote and morning vote. It reached a maximum percentage of 54.36% at 11:10 AM before going on to lose 3.16% for the rest of the poll. In the 2011 poll, the maximum percentage happened at 12:09 PM, but that poll was on a weekday instead. This poll happened on the weekend, which could have affected the trends slightly. But in general, all of the trends from the 2011 poll have been consistent with yesterday's poll despite the weekday vs. weekend difference. "A few times a week" has a very terrible board vote and Power Hour, while having a bad night vote and below average morning vote. It performs best during the later part of the poll, which includes the ASV and SNV. This option starts off very poorly before doing a "rise to heaven" trend for the entire poll, and it gains a total of 4.69% for the rest of the poll after the Power Hour. "A few times a month", "A few times a year", and "First time this year, if ever" all have similar trends by having a terrible board vote, Power Hour, night vote, and morning vote. Their best time period was the ASV and SNV. These 3 options also have the same "rise to heaven" trend seen by "A few times a week".
