All our lives are failures. Mario beating Samus has made me realize that life is meaningless, so we should all embrace death and loss, just as Samus had when she lost to Mario in a video game character popularity poll.

If I had the money to do it, I'd stay in academia forever, be it as a student, educator, or whatever. Colleges are full of life, youth, and optimism; if money was no object, why wouldn't you stay?

For the self loathing trolls, I didn't go to college right out of high school because I didn't know what I wanted to do for a living. There is no rule saying you have to go to college immediately.

How does Vincent/KOS-MOS hold up?

I'm not sure - I'm holding off on full stats/adjustments/comparisons for Divisions 5-8 until we get Cloud/Mario (for as much as seeing that result will be worth).

With that said, Vincent is currently ranked slightly above Sub-Zero in his own division's stats, and the 2013 stats have them right next to each other. So it doesn't look that Vincent changed too much if at all. Assuming KOS-MOS stayed constant, that can be used as a comparison.

My statistical analysis suggests that the reason Link is so dominant is because he has the most ideal distance between his scrotum and his anus. There’s nothing more respectable in a man than a perfectly-measured taint.

I suggest we start cataloguing as many video game characters’ taints as possible to forecast the most accurate stats possible.

Mario did almost 7% better with registered users compared to anonymous users. In the first Mario/Samus match, the difference was only about 3% between registered/anonymous users. This makes me think that the Samus rally on the Metroid subreddit actually had a noticeable impact on the match.

Out of curiosity, how many female characters stayed static or dropped and how many exceeded expectations? Because using KOS-MOS as constant may not be ideal if females in general overperformed

I don't think a single one dropped. KOS-MOS actually slightly underperformed in her match against Ryu, though.

That's kind of the thing. Ryu's performances against Lloyd, Shepard, and KOS-MOS were all great. And then the Sephiroth match happened. Does anyone really believe that Amaterasu almost beats Ryu?

The f*** is this dumb s***? Immature posts like that one are how I know how ignorant you are in the real world. I work with a doctor who started his tenure at vet school at 47. At Northstar, I worked with a nurse who changed careers and started going to nursing school at 56. My lawyer started going to law school at 38. Realo (funny B8 dude that's met yoblazer IRL) is about to be 31 and he only now became a realtor. I didn't say you need everything figured out 100% at 30. I said if you're in arrested development and have nothing figured out by 30, to the point Samus losing a poll is probably making you cry in real life, you have severe issues.

No one is crying because Samus lost the match. And living at home is fine and commonplace in a lot of countries, and it saves them a lot of money. If you don't have a rapidly growing population there's no reason why you can't recycle the housing stock from generation to generation.

As far as arrested development goes, I think another thing that goes into that is more and more things requiring school - sometimes many years of school - now. And life expectancy going up.

Eh it’s a hobby. We all have them.

I’ll give you that resorting to outright anger and vitriol because your horse lost is pretty dumb, though. It was dumb when we were in our 20s, but hey it was understandable. These were a new and exciting thing and most of us were in college. But NOW? People in their 30s should be getting married, having children, and making mortgage payments, not getting legitimately mad because Mario beat Samus in a poll.

Arrested development is real, and you’ll notice that the people here who have kids and/or a career going don’t get mad over these. They just cheer and have fun. XIII is a great example. Dude travels overseas to teach in Qatar and such. You think he would have gotten legit pissed off and started cursing people out had Samus won? Nope.

I was 15 in 2002 when I created this account and am 31 right now. It's not crazy to think there were 12/13 year old kids on this board for the first contest, I know I was using GameFAQs well before I created this account.

I like Ulti usually but I really dislike hypocrisy so it's tough sometimes.

I got married at 20, got rich at 26, and figured my career path out at 29, all with an atrocious, abusive upbringing. If I can make it, almost anyone else can. There is no excuse. Work harder.

I'm pretty okay with where I'm headed. It doesn't currently involve marriage, mortgages, or children. And that should be okay if you starting school like 7 years after I finished it is.

I think my first vote in these things was Mario/Cloud. I think I was rallied from Planet Gamecube. I vaguely recall using Gamefaqs for an OOT walkthrough a couple years before that. After discovering these contests I realized they were much more fun than actually playing video games. As for Crono, um, Crono is just awesome.

Zelda has never pulled off a single rally except for that Draven match - sure, part of it is that Zelda usually doesn't need rallies - but we saw nothing against Cloud or L-Block or Undertale. Draven provided the sense that an extremely powerful, outside, force was trampling the contest underfoot - and brought out the best in Link.

We’ve had many matches with intense dueling rallies.

As both entrants can’t be the favorites, the idea that favorites can’t rally is clearly false.

I don’t know, must’ve happened at some point.

Depends what your even mean by favorite. Bracket/pre-contest favorite, or day before match favorite? These can be pretty different.

And given the number of very close rally battles we’ve had, the results could have been flipped easily. Just because a rallied favorite barely lost, doesn’t mean they couldn’t have won.
