Zelda fought the LAW, and the LAW won.

Best case for Zelda now is to at least keep this match respectable, so that the bandwagon can continue growing and people will want to give her a second chance. It's still a longshot, but deep down we all wanna be lawbreakers.

Was Metroid ever a thing in Europe btw?

Can't speak for the rest of Europe, but my only exposure to anything Metroid related was Mother Brain in the Captain N show and it took until 2006 for me to discover Samus in the first place. When I first saw her in Super Smash Flash, I legitimately thought she was some sort of Xbox/Halo character.

Granted, I was too young for the SNES era and didn't grow up with the N64 outside of Mario 64, 1080, Banjo and Pokemon Stadium.

I just said in Discord it sucks having to be on Mario's side today - I picked Samus in 2005 and would usually vote for her.

As someone with the most gain from Mario doing exactly that, that's just not happening, especially if Zelda proves here in the next 23.5 hours that no one is coming as close to uphending Link as she can.

9 people fell off the Top 50. FFIXOwner, kidibu2, pyresword, tennisboy213, Tjian, KeepinItFresh, DiegoArmado, BrokeBald and OrangeCrush980 did not have Cloud and Mario winning.

19 people got one match wrong but survived. Amyson, XIII_rocks, TheBiggerWiggle, Vegink, fpce666, Osfan, _SecretSquirrel, Moonroof, iGenesis, dimi161, Advokaiser, SuperLameDog, ctesjbuvf, Underleveled, gitanil, haloiscoolisbak, Seanchan, ALAKA and PreseaCombatir also did not have Cloud and Mario winning.

3 people didn't score a single point but hung on. SpikeDragon, Zylothewolf and PSI_NESS are still on the Top 50 based on the strength of their previous performances.

5 people fell off the Second Chance Top 50. Sapientis, ZeroCopy, Then00bAvenger, _Agahnim_ and Jdsmart also did not have Cloud and Mario winning.

29 people scored half points but survived. ChronoT7, GreatOne367, BornInLondon, AnimuBoobaru, LinkPizza, ToeKing, PrinceKaro, svr4ever, jorhead, cdw01, megametal42, snowboard340, Jim__P, Apostrophe, Croire, pasinpman, LufiaIILover, Glenn_and_Toad, Averia, supercurrymax, HikaruYami, Kitty_the_Squid, k69Degrees, Ultimaphazon, Lightning_guy, billyb2004, koakuma666, SourDieselMike and icicleblade only had one of Mario and Cloud winning.

2 people managed to survive without gaining a single point. Caltenburn and DarkSoul1988 are still on the Top 50 without having picked Mario or Cloud.

I'm in Scotland and no gamer I knew as a kid had heard of Metroid until Metroid Prime came out. It might have been a thing, but it was a very small thing.

Don't be so sure. Mario just won a last update match and Zelda's about to take a mauling. If he can keep things interesting with Mario/Cloud, who's to say Mario can't get hot and flip the result from the winners' bracket? We just saw how Samus came within striking distance of flipping a bigger difference. Why can't Mario do the same?

I find it hilarious how after a decade of Board 8 complaining about rallies, I see you people on Reddit for every single close match. The hypocrisy is ridiculous. Had I asked my classmates to vote for Samus (who I *love* as a character, try reading my reviews) you would not be complaining.

I know it’s hard to understand for you, but cheering for a character is not trolling. It’s cheering. Am I sitting here calling Samus supporters trolls who suck? No, because I’m an actual adult. I have loved Mario for 30 years, ever since I got my first Nintendo and first played Mario 1.

I love Samus. I love Mario.

Almost certainly. Samus might have even been Clinkeroth tier back in the day with a good N64 game.

Samus closed the distance because she wasn't kneecapped by having to field her sprite against Mario's. And Mario winning a last update match doesn't matter - Mario's isn't capable of catching a bandwagon. For a bandwagon to happen, you need to start punching above your weight class and causing shocking results. Mario needing cheating his way over a character he should be clearly beating isn't worthy of a bandwagon. It's embarrassing.

Zelda is going to get like 53% on him and then get stomped by Link again.

First 60% update for Link. We still have a lot of work to do if we are going to beat 62.09% and not record Link's worst ever showing against Nintendo.

Mario doesn't have good karma built up. He's like the only Noble Nine character who literally cheated back in 2002/2003. Him losing to Vivi just balanced the books (and now he's back to his soul being steeped in black after today).

It's not a bandwagon, it's a reinforcement. Mario clutching it out against Samus reminds people who love him of WHY they love him. That might be all it takes to drop the hammer on Zelda and get the flip.
