Match CXLI: (1) Link vs. (4) Cloud Strife Current Contest Performance Link Defeated Ganondorf, 79.64% - 20.36% Defeated Pikachu, 68.41% - 31.59% Cloud Strife Defeated Alucard, 60.40% - 39.60% Defeated Crono, 56.73% - 43.27% Analysis For the next two days we will only have one match. Link vs. Cloud was always a classic match-up in the early days of this contest. However, there is no doubt that Link is the undisputed champion on this site. Despite two matches under his belt we still don’t have a great reading on Link as he was able to SFF both Ganondorf and Pikachu. Cloud’s performance against Crono shows that he still has strength, whether that places him has the number two is still up for debate. After watching Mario dismantle Sephiroth it is hard to see Cloud not end up with the same fate. While Cloud may have received a boost from Super Smash Bros. 4 it is unlikely to help him in this match. Thing is...Link has boosted more Also Cloud is probably at Samus/Mario level indirectly. so 58-60 is a out right. Anything below 58 and cloud is doing well. Anything above 60 and Link is doing well. |

getting stronger, thanks to BoTW and Cloud keeps getting weaker...it's
inevitable that the gap between the two will get bigger. Mario went from
getting destroyed by Sephiroth to crushing him almost 60-40. Same fate
waiting for Cloud, sadly. ... |
CaptainOfCrush posted... I'm willing to give Zelda the benefit of the doubt against Sonic and say that she underperformed slightly due to a bad picture mismatch. If she didn't - which suggests Snake might be a hair stronger indirectly and she just ripped some Nintendo support away from him - it suggests good things for her against Samus and possibly even Mario. It does seem like Zelda underperformed slightly against Sonic. We've already seen that Snake/Zelda are pretty much equal, but Zelda did about 1% worse against Sonic than Snake did. Sprite pictures appear to have hurt Zelda, but the effect of sprites is roughly a 1% reduction. Cloud has had every reason to fall off, but still does 42%+ on a BotW boosted Link. The world refuses to change |

Bracketmakers remember the last known values; they tend to assume some boost from a new game/decline in the absence of a new game, but the latter is something that we expect to happen gradually. Of course, we forgot to account for the fact that contests are far more infrequent. (Obligatory reminder that CBVIII started closer to CBI than to CBX.) He's basically invincible under normal circumstances and can only be beaten by exploiting a specific weakness, but despite how easily he defeats any challenger in the absence of said weakness, it's hard to root against him. There have been like 10 different Links or something. Probably more. In order of their games' releases, since I can never remember the timeline: Z1/Z2 ALttP/LA/OoS/OoA (and there's some debate that that's actually two Links) OoT/MM FS WW/PH MC FSA TP ST SS ALBW BotW That's 12, not counting the non-canon CDi games, and I've probably forgotten at least one.
