What makes Prime 3 AAA and not Other M? Was there a big difference in budget?

Yeah huge difference. And Critical ratings as well. Other M Had to be developed by a 3rd party. Lower Budget with a 3rd party Dev Team. Prime 3 was Retros most expensive game to date.

But I'm combining Production Costs and Critical Reception. Prime 3 got AAA Reviews. Other M didn;t.

Mario only got around 54% against Samus in 2006-8, albeit with Link in the same poll. I do remember getting lots of joy out of the fact that after a bunch of people on this board picked Mario to beat Crono even in the face of Triple Nintendo SFF, Samus ended up getting about a bazillion more cuts on Mario than Mario got on Crono that day.

I think Mario is lower on the hierarchy now. It's a theory I've held for a while, but 10+ years ago, he was pretty much the sole face of the company (Pikachu being perhaps the lone exception). Mario was the only character they used when promoting things on a Nintendo-wide scale.

That isn't the case anymore. Nintendo has branched out and is using many of their formerly overlooked characters in their marketing. This was evident with projects like the "Year of Luigi" and with Mario's significantly lessened role in marketing Ultimate. He was hardly prominent in any of those trailers.

Because its not a Mario Game. Mario Kart Mario Tennis are Mario Games.

Smash was never a Mario Game.

When I think of Smash I think of 4 Characters but thts just me

Sonic's trying his all to save face. He's certainly looking better now than 15 minutes ago, though he's got a pretty big picture advantage, so pretty much any loss will be seen as sheer disrespect from Zelda.

In the other match, Mario is looking somewhat safe now, but no way will he approach 2005's 60% win. Good on Samus.

Also we didn't see sprites affecting negatively anyone this contest, they all performed as expected

If Bacondorf didn't affect that match then Link performed better against Pikachu than he did against Ganon.

I dob't trust the Bacondorf match at all. That was pic factor through and through.

To be fair, if people aren't going to recognize Snake because of that pic, I'm 1000% sure Metal Gear has a higher playrate here than Record Keeper.

Plus Snake's most popular game is on the PS2 (don't pretend MGS3, where the character is called Snake, has no impact on Snake's popularity).

Auron had by FAR the worst Sprite pic this round

Auron isn't a Sprite character. All those other characters bar Seph and Tifa have Sprites in 2D games they originated from.

Seriously It was far mroe damaging to Auron. But Snake as well but lesser extent.

Zelda is, from what we've seen, essentially equal to Snake. If she holds 55% here despite a clear picture disadvantage (her first of the contest), then I don't think that's a result that needs to be "explained away." It's not a bad result at all. If Sonic can actually make it close, then yeah, time to go through the book of excuses.

Zelda has been continuously sinking since the match started.

At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if Sonic pulls the upset!

Happy with Samus's performance. Pretty much all evidence suggested she'd hold up better now than she did in 2005, but it was still worrisome that she would collapse again somehow.

define Close? Because in my book 55-45 isn;t close. Snake/Zelda was Close yet everyone bashed Snake despite him severely being weakened over the years with Kojima/konami etc...

I like how people are giving Sonic Respect for keeping it "close" desite having a clear Pic advantage and coming into this tournament as a N9ner.

The fact is Sonic is clearly the weakest member of the Original N9. Lets not think otherwise. He'd lose to Pikachu

Unfortunately even with his best possible 2D pic he'll still lose because he doesn't even have the sort of pulling power of a Pikachu even to gain some rallies from.

Can someone clarify but is this the biggest % Defeat between a Non N9 and a N9 member 1v1?? I don't include Missingno but that was a closer match. 3 and 4 way s***ty polls don't count.

I wouldn't call Zelda a Spike. She was winning anyway and just got a bigger UPdate
