I forgot all about Tifa/Mewtwo being a debated match. That seems like an eternity ago.

Analysis

Sadly, Link was unable to repeat his 2004 performance against Ganondorf last round, failing to break 80%. That was to be expected given how the rest of the field has inched closer to Link and that his SFF strength has dropped. Pikachu on the other hand was able to grab the upset against Mega Man. Sadly for Pikachu, Link is just too tough of an opponent.

Without SFF Pikachu would have a great chance at breaking 40% against Link. As I mentioned the field has moved closer to Link. While Pokemon is typically good at resisting SFF Link should be an exception. During the games contest in 2009 we saw Ocarina of Time SFF Pokemon RBYG so it is possible. The potential is however there for Pikachu to have Nintendo’s best ever performance against Link.

Match CXXXIV: (4) Cloud Strife vs. (5) Crono

Current Contest Performance

Cloud Strife
Defeated Alucard, 60.40% - 39.60%

Crono
Defeated Bowser, 54.88% - 45.12%

Analysis

On paper we were sort of spoiled for this match due to the loser’s bracket. The Bowser/Alucard match suggests that Cloud would win this match with around 55% and even with random variation between matches that is a large gap for Crono to cross.

If Crono does win he could credit the fact that this is the sprite round and Chrono Trigger characters tend to perform well, but Kingdom Hearts Cloud doesn’t look too shabby either. Though with the way Kingdom Hearts has performed perhaps Cloud may not want to associate with them. The only other way would be some kind of mild Playstation SFF between Cloud and Alucard. Regardless, this was one of my bigger upsets for this bracket and it is only right for me to go down with the ship.

Zelda after she beats Sonic? Tifa has easily had the harder bracket so far though. Mewtwo > MMX > Luigi > Sephiroth are impressive wins.

I mean Tifa would still have one more because the only match most people truly thought Zelda could lose in her division was against Squall

With Smash coming it this week. There will be higher traffic of nintendrones

Expect Zelda to squash sonic and beat snake again by maybe a couple hundred more votes than she did before.

This contest couldn’t have found better timing for the Nintendo juggernauts.

People have a ton of faith in Snake beating Samus and for the life of me I can't figure out why.

Peach needs 53.75% for that to happen.

I feel like that puts into perspective how absurdly good Samus looks.

well I do think Geralt's half of the division is a little overrated and thus Rosalina herself is too but yeah

Geralt's half of the division pretty much has to be significantly overrated, but looking at who he beat they'd all be characters who'd be a flashing neon sign that says 'NINTENDO IS GOING TO KILL EVERYTHING' which is kinda what we've gotten so far outside of Ganondorf in the Legends bracket.

I skyrocketed to the leaderboard just by having Bowser and nothing else in Losers.

With Tifa only getting 2.5% of brackets, that makes sense.

Link started to run it up in that last minute. 23:55 more of that, please.

Link made a huge push in the final minute of the board vote to nearly reach 60%

This is a pretty bad early result for Crono if he wants to look respectable by the end of the match.

Pika used up all its energy trying to desperately hang on to 40% at the freeze. Now it can lose with pride, I guess.

Cloud may end up looking decent - wonder if he can hold in the mid-40s on Link.

Other than Undertale that's probably the lowest 1v1 pick percentage ever, unless Charizard 2010 was lower

Crono also sucked in the early vote against Bowser, so he may not do too bad here, but he is certainly losing more ground in the dead zone.
