To those saying that pikachu was rallied and is therefore worse than shown- mega man was rallied very hard. A reddit post was at the top of the mega man shbreddit from 9 am eastern until hours after the contest ended and had well over 200 upvotes, none of the Pokemon rally attempts on Reddit had even a third of that many upvotes. I think rallies probably hurt pikachu more than they helped him, especially because multiple people on the Pokemon subreddit said they voted for mega man.

That said, pikachu did get a late rally that helped push him over the top at the end.

It's an apples and oranges comparison. There's really only one place to rally Mega Man, while there are hundreds of places to rally Pikachu (furry porn hentai, Misty hentai, Smashboards, etc)

It doesn't. Pikachu already had a spot from 2013 when he beat Squirtle right after Squirtle beat Cloud.

Crono > Bowser will restore Crono's spot, though. Bowser picked up a spot from Kirby this year, who picked one up from Big Boss in 2013 one round after Big Boss beat Luigi, who had earned one in 2010 off of Weighted Companion Cube.

Link also just got his back after the Draven loss, since Ganondorf's path to the Legends Bracket went through Vivi and Vivi held on to the spot he won from Mario through the end of 2013 because Squall also had a spot entering Red > Vivi > Squall (having won it from Missingno the previous round).

Pika did it! Damn! When I left last night, he was losing!

Also I am still on the Leaderboard?

Came back from work, checked the results. This is what I have to say.

1st match=Cloud with slightly above 60%. This is what I was expecting.
2nd match=Crono with less than 55%...I was expecting around 56-57. Maybe he will rise

So overall nice. Also I noticed that we FINALLY have prediction percentages for the wins. Some thoughts.

Ganondorf for his 1st match had the higher prediction out of all matches! Damn!
Alucard had the lowest prediction percentage to win the division and he did it! Damn! Is that a record? Or is Vincent or L-Block or Charizard from previous contests with lower stats?
So why we exist? What happens when we stop existing?

Snake
Samus
Sephiroth > Vincent > Crono
Mega Man > Red > Squall > Missingno. > Crono > L-Block > Sonic
Crono > Bowser > Kirby > Big Boss > Luigi > Weighted Companion Cube > Mega Man
Tifa Lockheart > Mewtwo > Sonic > Kirby > Sephiroth
Pikachu > Squirtle > Cloud
Link > Ganondorf > Vivi > Mario
Amaterasu > Draven > Link

6/9 Lineal Nine members are now actually Noble Nine members. That number is liable to go up further if Mario beats Sephiroth who then beats Tifa, and if the loser of Cloud/Crono beats Pikachu.
If all else fails use fire.

Yeah, who would have taken Alucard > Ryu pre-contest?

Or Peach to be close to Kirby (Bandwagon effect or Pac-Man apathy factor?)

Ryu, in retrospect, didn't do anything to suggest he's stronger than in past contests, so I would guess Alucard's above Ryu. Peach isn't that close to Kirby if you assume Bowser SFFed Kirby.

Good point. The next good chance to see a Noble Niner truly fall to someone (before doubling the registered votes) is probably Zelda vs. Sonic. Come on, Zelda!

Match CXXV: (3) Solid Snake vs. (4) Zelda

Previous/Current Contest Performance

Solid Snake - 2013
Round 1: 71.21% against Isaac (20.32%) and Commander Keen (8.48%)
Round 2: 60.57% against Alucard (22.79%) and Bayonetta (16.64%)
Round 3: 47.58% against GlaDOS (26.28%) and Kefka (26.14%)
Round 4: 51.12% against Pikachu (25.60%) and Squirtle (23.29%)
Round 5: 32.81% against Draven (49.13%) and Samus Aran (18.06%)

Zelda
Defeated Ezio Auditore da Firenze, 75.33% - 24.67%
Defeated The Boss, 70.70%, 29.30%
Defeated Squall Leonhart, 63.32% - 36.68%
Defeated Aerith Gainsborough, 62.19% - 37.81%

Analysis

Despite being brought down to Earth last round Zelda still has a lot of strength. Sure, the final of this contest will not be between Link and Zelda, but 62% against Aerith is quite impressive. Aerith may have dropped in strength over the years, but breaking 60% on her should only be reserved for the strongest characters who can potentially defeat a Noble Nine character.

In 2013 I would argue that Solid Snake was the second strongest character in the bracket and would have likely won the contest if it weren’t for Draven, due to Mario (or Samus) weighing down Link. Regardless, since then Metal Gear has gotten weaker as seen by the performances of other Metal Gear characters. Sure, Solid Snake may have Super Smash Bros. on his side, but I find it doubtful that he is still the second strongest character in the bracket. As for this match, I feel Zelda will give him a bit of a scare, but ultimately it won’t be enough to grab the upset.

charmander6000’s Bracket: Solid Snake > Zelda

charmander6000’s Prediction: Solid Snake wins, 54.45% - 45.55%

Match CXXVI: (6) Sonic the Hedgehog vs. (3) Auron

Previous/Current Contest Performance

Sonic the Hedgehog - 2013
Round 1: 66.30% against Fei Fong Wong (20.17%) and Dan Hibiki (13.53%)
Round 2: 50.02% against Barret Wallace (26.09%) and Dracula (23.89%)
Round 3: 34.58% against Mewtwo (41.82%) and Bowser (23.60%)

Auron
Defeated Lucina, 65.44% - 34.56%
Defeated Vincent Valentine, 55.80% - 44.20%
Defeated Sub-Zero, 56.71% - 43.29%
Defeated Geralt, 53.14% - 46.86%

Analysis

Here’s a rematch that is likely to flip since 2008. Overall, Sonic characters have had a good contest therefore I suspect Sonic himself will be a bit stronger. I know I’ve said this a few times, but it seems like Sonic characters perform poorly in multi-way polls. It also helps that I feel that Auron will also be weaker relative to 2008.

Even ignoring his performance against Geralt whom may have been benefitting from a bandwagon effect, Auron has looked a bit weaker this contest. I wouldn’t completely rule him out, but it would be one of the bigger shocks of this round should he win. In fact, more people will be using this match as the first test as to whether or not Sonic has enough strength to hold off Zelda in their likely match in the loser’s bracket.

charmander6000’s Bracket: Sonic the Hedgehog > Auron

charmander6000’s Prediction: Sonic the Hedgehog wins, 55.82% - 44.18%

Question on rallies yesterday - there actually seems to be more votes today than yesterday so far. Why would that be if there arent rallies? Because I cant imagine there are any rallies going on here given that percents havent moved much throughout the day...

I guess what I'm saying is they dont seem to have really brought in any meaningful bumps in total votes. So does that mean they didnt meaningfully impact the match?

Well after this round there really isnt a chance until the losers bracket. I mean zelda could make a move, but I dont see it. And if it's in losers bracket people will just move the goal post again and say it hasn't happened in a main bracket match.

Yeah, I think Luster calculated we were on pace for just under 28k earlier in the match so at most less than 1000 people were rallied, probably less as regular voters likely showed up later in the match for random reasons before noticing that a new match has started.

I mean 2013 Snake was legit

2018 Alucard is noticeably stronger though just based on what he's doing against Cloud compared to what Captain Falcon did against Sephiroth

either that or Sephy is a lot stronger than Cloud now

Redeemable so far:
- Crash Bandicoot has gotten stronger
- PokéFEAR is true, at least regarding Red and Pikachu
- Draven is an utterly worthless entry who can't beat weaklings Jak and Chie, let alone a beloved character like Amaterasu, without a legion of idiots saving him

I think everyone is underestimating Sonic. The same factors that made Pikachu rise in strength so much should also lead to a Sonic renaissance. I think Sonic will be stronger now than he's been in a very long time.

That is one reason for the terrible vote totals, but having Link/Ganondorf yesterday didn't help either as SFF matches usually have lower vote totals than normal.

We were actually on pace for slightly under 27000 votes based on the 12 hour point in the match. The vote total pace actually picked up during the second-half of the match relative to Red/Alucard. Most of that was from rallying, but I do think that some of our regular voters finally realized the contest returned again.

I estimated that we got about 800 rallied votes yesterday based on registered user voting trends. At 9:00 AM in the match, we had 52.03% of our raw votes from registered users. The closest comparison I could find in a weekday match with a 7:00 PM start time was the Master Hand/Wario match, which had 51.69% registered users at 9:00 AM. Master Hand/Wario would ultimately end up with 48.48% registered users. Based on this, I estimated that we would have finished slightly below 49.00% registered users if the match remained completely unaffected by rallies. This allowed me to estimate that we had about 800 rallied votes in this match.
