I guess... it closely ties to "worldwide" gaming popularity for Pikachu to be a Top 5-level character. It's just still weird to see it on the site given where he started from.

Well MM is close to Pika in all of Europe.

It's just UK and Portugal who seem to have a beef with MM.

NY and FL were also going for Pikachu earlier but have since flipped.

I think a loss for MM here might actually be better for his overall contest placement. This result is close enough that I'd actually take the loser today as the favorite in next week's rematch (which will happen unless Ganondorf trolls everyone hard).

Same character who let PaRappa the Rapper score 45.59% on him in 2002 might be the character to break the Noble Nine by its purest definition (though I"ve considered it broken since 2007).

I came back from work, checked the results. This is what I have to say.

1st match=I expected Link with more than 85%. Guess he can't just SFF everyone it seems now.
2nd match=Didn't expected the match to be so close. Of course Americans with their bad taste have MM with higher percentage.

Also as others have said I live in Greece and when I came to the site in 2002 it was the first time that I heard of MM too. I am still surpised to see that he is still so strong.

Also can someone rally for Pika? Man I should had social sites accounts everywhere but I hate the social sites!

If anything, people should stop rallying for Pikachu. They seem to be backfiring

i honestly think sonic would be doing better than mm. He demolishes near n9 nintendo/square characters.. I think only vincent was sorta close.

It makes sense that Pikachu/Pokemon would be strong on GameFAQs, especially once everyone got over the "it's cool to hate it" fad. The series is one of Nintendo's corner stones and unlike Animal Crossing it's also geared towards users that frequent GameFAQs.

Now Samus being this strong has always confused me, I always felt she should be closer to Kirby tier than Mario tier on the Nintendo totem pole.

So does MM have this, or is there another twist?

i absolutely agree that metroid is much less a gamefaqs series and as its time as a cornerstone of nintendo drifts further away we'll see samus drop.

Yeah, way too many people don't know about the Xeno series

Metroid's relevance may have decreased over time but its biggest games seemed stronger than ever in 2015. Super Metroid even almost beat The Game of the Decade!

Mega Man has a history of bodying Pokemon and lower tier Nintendo alike by higher numbers than expected. People were so sure because they paid attention to past contests. This contest being different just means it's different, not that people weren't justified in expecting an easy win.

To be fair. MM is far better than Sonic.

At least MM doesn’t have a s*** ton of abysmal games attached to him.

I don’t care about MM. I’m from UK and I have 0 attachment to him but I’ve played a few MM games and they’re ok. As a character I don’t mind him.

Sonic however I actively hate. I hate his games and what he is now. When I look at him I don’t see sonic pre sega Saturn. I see him in the 3D era and he’s been an absolute s***house of a character in some of the worst video games ever created over the past two decades.

I mean people are going to say that Pikachu beating Yoshi with 54% is strong. But... uh... compared to Mega Man? Not really. Mega Man at anything near peak power isn't having trouble pulling rank on Pokemon. He did it even in 2013 when they were on roids with Zero holding his legs.
