tennisboy213 posted... The match is half over by time, but around 2/3 over by votes. Also it looks like we're around 2,000 votes short of where we should be (based on the last matches that started on a Monday). We're on track for less than 27000 votes. This could be avoided if this match is still close later on and rallies kick in for either character. The lowest vote totals of the contest with a 7:00 PM EST starting time was the Red/Alucard match which finished at 28236 votes. At 8:00 AM, that match had 19782 votes. In today's matches, we have 18636 and 18640 votes at the same point in time. So we're already around 1200 votes behind Red/Alucard. This puts us on a pace for less than 27000 votes. There are two factors affecting our poor vote totals - Link/Ganondorf is an SFF match, which generally suffer from reduced vote totals. Then you throw in the fact that the casuals were surprised by the return of the contest after the 6 day break. The fact that we're on track for less than 27000 votes is pretty bad given that this is a weekday match. At least Red/Alucard had the excuse of being on a Saturday. Based on research I did, Saturdays have the lowest average vote totals out of all the days of the week. Monday-Thursday has the highest average vote totals. This is pretty clearly a result of the NES never really catching on in the U.K. This is probably also why Alucard is weak over there. Without the NES entries being particularly well known, the Castlevania name didn't mean as much and so fewer people were interested in Symphony of the Night, but SotN was big enough to make him not totally pathetic.. For example loser 1 (ganon) faces loser 8(whoever it is between Mario or Seph) And work the losers bracket that way so different characters face each other. |

SNES, N64 and Gamecube were all culturally relevant here. The SNES was definitely second place - the most fondly remembered games of the era from people I speak to are Sonic and Streets of Rage, with the odd person here or there having played Super Mario World. I'm sure that Mario characters do just fine in Europe so I don't accept that categorically Nintendo was weak here pre-Wii. But I do know the idea of Mega Man, Crono, Samus et al being as strong as Sonic the Hedgehog has always seemed insane to me! |

Different countries have different cultures. A ton of European countries barely plays games. UK alone made up pretty much 60% of the European market back then. Now it’s still the biggest but you’ve got places like Russia France Germany with huge markets. |
