I know it's to be expected, but man the beatdown Mega Man is getting in the UK is just obscene for an otherwise 50-50 match.

megaman just isn’t popular at all in UK. Like literally hardly anyone has played his older games.

More people have played the newer games than the older ones.

Another thing that could contribute to Mega Man being weak in the UK is that even those who have played his games have mostly likely played them as an adult, so the element of nostalgia would be absent for those voters. So that makes Mega Man weaker than usual just from that alone.

This is gonna be a barn burner. Wonder if rallies will decide it tomorrow

Mega Man is getting eviscerated in the UK. He's losing it worse than MMX lost to Tifa, which is nuts. The saving grace is that Mega Man is picking up more random smaller countries on the right half of the map than MMX did. Tifa swept basically everything on the right half of the map.

I give Pikachu a 60-40 chance of winning. Not liking the situation MM is in.

Can we please just erase all Nintendo characters from this contest?

I never got into Mega Man until I was an adult, and I like MM a lot. I suppose I would be crazy about him if I played his games (as) a kid.

Usually Asia is mostly irrelevant in the overnight vote, as seen in the continent polls where Asia has never gotten over 9% of the vote in a single hour during the 3 continent polls that I have tracked. With Tifa/MMX, Asia's huge preference for Tifa may have been the deciding factor in that match because it gave Tifa a supercharged night vote by giving Europe additional firepower for the comeback against MMX.

Nice preliminary stats, Haste. You actually picked a lot of the same characters to use as adjustment baselines that I'm also considering.

If Pikachu makes it, this will be one of the few normal N9 loss, not involving SFF, rallies or funky format.

The rat has it down to 60 votes. I don't think he takes the lead before the end of this hour, but it shouldn't take much longer.

I pretty much only got into Mega Man because he did so well on this site. I likely wouldn't hav eplayed his games ohterwise and I think kid me would get too frustrated

I got into Mega Man as an adult.

I haven't ever gotten into Pokemon.

Don't think so. There haven't been many opportunities in recent years, since most matches since 2007 have been either multi-way or 12 hours.

Crono/Missingno was 12 hours and everyone in L-Block and Draven's path of destruction was not 1v1.

Pokemon does have a way of breaching these Noble 9 milestones. First Mizno, and now the rat could be in position.

Mega Man has dishonored his noble family.

And there is the lead change. Now to see what Pikachu can build until America wakes up.

Tifa didn't end up building much, although she also took the lead an hour and a half from now. Pikachu will also probably hold up better during the day if the Zero match is any indication.

I think you have to get them manually, using specific URLs such as these (with the f indicating a foreground pic and the pic's creator afterwards):

No, I think you're right.

Link has a generic field behind him. Could be BotW, could be OoT. I couldn't tell you. Ganon just has smoke behind him, if I had to guess it's either OoT Death Mountain or OoT Ganon's Castle there but Ganon himself blocks anything that would clear that up. I don't know anything about MM but whatever it is I can't really tell. Pikachu's Pokeball is very easy to discern in comparison.

When I first saw the Pokeball background I thought "how boring" but when you see how blurry the other backgrounds are, the Pokeball background is actually the best

That's something I didn't think of, and probably a better method, since you get to see the foreground and background together that way.

My personal guess is since the method of using the header of the site as the contest AND keeping the Poll of the Day causes limitations of what kinds of match pics he wants to use if he also wants to enforce the "you have to vote in every match" deal

It'd be kind of hard to enforce that. You would need some hardcore coding for EVERY single match picture dependent on the position of where the character is at

I think the format is more restrictive than it has to be. Why can't it be like Best Game Ever 3 or the Years contest where you can do what you want with the picture so long as everything is centered appropriately? I can't even guarantee that the foreground matches the background, which is an absolute first.
