started to grain traction against MMX. I'm legitimately fascinated at how closely the trends of these matches are lining up, down to individual hours and sometimes individual updates. Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |

If you were capable of reading instead of trolling, you could go back in the stats topics a bit and see that I said there was no reason for the gap between Bowser and Kirby to have closed since their match in 2005. Or you could use three mouse clicks to check the guru picks for that match (I picked Bowser), but that would involve you having the ability to count past two. Alright let's talk about things @creativename
I'm going to break down everything I've said, and everything I believe
you've said. I'm going to try to avoid psychoanalyzing and you try to
avoid using the consensus crutch. The basic premise here is that Samus likely boosted in 2005, just like the rest of Nintendo, which means the "Samus only lost by a lot because Mario boosted" is a lot harder to sell. Argument 1: There's no reason whatsoever you should believe it was Mario exclusively as there's no reason to trace that shift to something Mario specific. Compare Kirby, Donkey Kong, Zelda (to 03), Ganondorf (to 03), Link himself in the ToC, all have seemingly boosted. Mario's crew got a slightly bigger boost but that's mostly because Mario himself is the flagship of Nintendo. Counterargument 1: Samus has been consistent before 05 and since 05. Her percentage in 06 vs Solid Snake, given Solid Snake's percentage vs guys like Mega Man and Sonic, does not imply this is the case. She has only been consistent if you take the following assumptions. The first is that Mega Man/Link SFF doesn't exist. Between his match in 04, unadjusted, making Mega Man look like a clown, and his matches in 07 with Samus and Link involved making him look like a clown, it's pretty safe to say we've got a lot of evidence for Mega Man/Nintendo SFF/LFF existing. This seems like a poor assumption to make-- it also makes her number vs Cloud in 07 not to be taken at face value as she has reason to be drug down by Mega Man and Link in those matches. The second is that Sonic 04 = Sonic 06. This also seems silly as Sonic has always seemed a few steps behind Mario and Crono, yet he beats Crono in 06 and does better against Snake than Mega Man does, which again, is well above his projections from earlier years. Counterargument 1b: Bowser and Ganondorf regress a bit in 06. While this is true, people have speculated, and frankly, it seems to make sense to me, that they got a temporary boost from the villains contest of 05, but what's important is 06 Bowser and Dorf still look stronger than 03/04 Bowser and Dorf, meaning there was likely a boost for them there. Argument 2: Measuring Frog through Samus 05, he drops way more than he should even considering things like sprites and Solid ****, particularly because Master Chief remains almost completely consistent between 04 and 05. Counterargument 2: Frog should have dropped as he had a miracle run in 04. Also Chief had reason to be stronger in 05. I don't doubt he dropped, but 2004 Frog and 2005 Chief both 60-40 2005 Frog. It's interesting that they were fairly close to consistent. In fact I would say the meat of your inconsistency would be found in adjusting Frog up to a bit below where 2005 Chief is (let's say halfway between 05 Chief and Frog's current position as a compromise) and running with whereever that puts Samus as her 2k5 value. Let's also keep in mind that, historically, Halo hype has been about as potent as Halo releases. Round 1 2007 Chief (pre Halo 3) was stronger than Round 1 2008 Chief (one year out from Halo 3) so it's plausible that Chief about 1 year out from Halo 2 isn't necessarily much different as far as strength goes than Chief during hype for Halo 2. Bungie was very good at their hype for a time! I... think that's about it. I don't believe you've adequately dismissed these arguments with anything beyond handwaves and claiming "no one ever argued these things before." Definitely not enough to put it in the area that I'm doing "gymnastics" I'm just using the numbers that are there. No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! I do still think Bowser and Ganondorf were a little overinflated in 2005 (their prediction percentages were absurd that year, meaning they probably benefited from bracket voting way more than they normally do), but yeah, even after that, still stronger than they were pre-Nintendo Boost. |
