Rallies aren't some grand principle

Nobody supporting Tifa has ever said "I despise rallies as a concept. On principle, I hate them." There's s***ty rallies and good rallies. Often "s***ty rallies" involve a character you dislike losing. But often it's because it's s***ty for the contest when Draven happens for instance.

ExTha, literally the loudest pervert/Tifa fanboi in this topic 2 WEEKS AGO was jumping down Ulti's throat for rallying in the Pokemon Trainer match. And half this topic was siding with him.

For as big of an insufferable manchild Ulti is, at least his terrible opinions are somewhat consistant

Yeah I would just like to say, I am not an anti-rallying stalwart by any means, but I did express some frustration with certain users in the last topic - this was aimed largely at ExTha, I'm not going to lie. The man has been excoriating rallies in general all contest, and when it comes to a result he wants he's rallying himself. I am not with BT in the firm anti-rally camp by any means, but ExTha was being ridiculous.

yea that was hypocritcal on his part. It was the result he wanted so he was happy.

I'm a stats guy, rallying doesn't bother me if it only changes the results of a 48-52 match. You still get the end result that the two characters were about even.

I only hate rallies that turn turbofodder into champions that muddle everything they touch.

Nice to see that Vivi really almost did it.

the X and Tifa rallies are basically the extent of what I think is OK for a rally.

yesterday's match was a ton of fun. if it's fun, it's ok

if you think the Draven and Undertale rallies were fun you have issues

My take on the rallies discussion-

I think that saying "if you are against rallies, you must be against all rallies" is dumb
There are many reasons why someone can hate rallies - be it because it makes a weak character/game a monster, or because of a board invasion, or because it makes a character/game that is totally not popular in Gamefaqs and none of us likes it win
Now, rallies always happened in some form. Hell, back when I thought those contests meant something for people other than myself I usually asked my friends to vote for a character I wanted. Sending a message in a Whatsapp group is rallying. Asking one friend to vote is rallying

HOWEVER, I can understand where BT is coming from regarding SOME people, not everyone.
I am not going to call out names (mostly because I don't remember who) but there are certain people here that pretty much confirmed they are against ALL KINDS of rallies
Those people were usually about "keeping stats pure" and outside influence "taint" them as well as contest veterans that believe their picks were 100% calculations and only got a match wrong due to a rally, and they hate how it made them lose points
Those people don't care about the characters, they care about math, about points, about predictions.
Now if ExTha was one of them, that would be hypocrisy, but I don't remember if he was

so people are saying extha can be totally ridiculous at times.

These contests are basically a nerdy sporting event, and no sports fan is unbiased against their hometown teams.

When's the last time you heard fans complaining about an incorrect ref call that benefitted their team.

Again, I already apologized for snapping at Ulti and explained why I jumped down his throat. It was unnecessary but I thought at the time that the Pokemon reddit was gonna overwhelm us because Red had a massive spike right after he bragged about rallying.

Nothing ended up happening so I was wrong.

I explained the type of rallies I hate. It's very obvious what the difference was between yesterday and Draven/Undertale. That you guys keep being so willfully stupid about this makes me think you have to be trolling, because no one can be this braindea-*looks at username*

I disagree. How are you establishing consensus here? My memories of it are mostly of a kind of positive, flabbergasted amusement.

There was definitely dissent (Vlado liking it probably didn't help) but I would say L-Block was somewhat enjoyed by the majority of the board.

I dislike rallies when they keep me from winning the contest.

Are you gonna go find posts from me during L-Block? Any of the Frog matches? I'm positive I've rallied JUST LIKE YESTERDAY for characters in other matches throughout the years.

The two KEY DIFFERENCES being during Undertale and Draven, because there is something wildly different about those two compared to what happened yesterday.

Is your brain capable of seeing those differences, Lasa? Or do you think they are the same exact thing? Let me know now if you can't see the difference, coz I can just put you on ignore and save myself the high blood pressure of trying to explain simple concepts to you.

I liked the L Block rally
I am part of the board
And I was there

I didn't like L Block appearing in later years because the joke got old, it should have retired forever after it won

I loved L-Block when it happened, which I guess that's technically similar to Draven/Undertale but it wasn't to such an overwhelming extent.

XIC is wrong in that the board was basically split on it while it was happening. People in the stats topic especially hated it.

Sheesh this is frustrating.

I expect the stupidity from Black Turtle, but not from the rest of you guys.

L Block was it's own thing
It didn't have a dediciated fanbase, it was just a matter of "People that think it's funny vs the people that think it's not"

It was kind of like the entire internet came to GameFAQs for a few weeks somehow. I think we got people from every corner of what was at the time the infancy of social media. There weren't Twitter/Tumblr/Reddit back then so it was basically Youtube and Facebook I think.

plus Tetris is one of the what top 5 best selling games of all time? so is L-Block is a Tetris proxy? (which its not totally dying in subsequent contests proves imo)

I'm not saying that topic is full of people screaming about their love for the block but it's a relatively amused reaction all told. Amount of negativity in there is relatively minimal. By comparison, the stats topics during Draven felt way worse. The board as a whole was way worse.

I dunno why L Block was even allowed in. You’d think they would let actual characters in who didn’t originate from video games, but still appeared in them before they’d ever let an object from a video game be in.

Can we get all along and talk about Hentai or something?

I feel like this is not the match that should have spawned this debate. Statistics imply that Tifa wins if you remove all rallies.

I’d talk hentai, but there aren’t any characters left in the contest with anything good. Sad feeling when genderswapped Bowser has better hentai than the girls remaining in this contest combined

The most fascinating part of yesterday to me is not the people complaining about rallies, but specifically the people complaining about hentai rallies. I didn't realize that the members of the Puritan Police still existed on B8 in 2018.

That wouldn’t surprise me. FF in general has almost nothing good hentai wise. I don’t know how much LoZ has, but I don’t really find much of any Nintendo character attractive anyways
