Yeah. From outside rallies. In fashion that made 99% of this board upset. It's hard to enjoy Undertale winning when it's ruining almost everyone elses' day.

GAME FUEL year was the only time I've ever cared about Master Chief. Voted for him in like every match because it was just fun to see him randomly beasting over everything.

He's been fun to root for every year for me. Dude has had huge comebacks/attempts every year basically even when he failed. Including this one, really, just because making big cuts when you're down 56-44 is funny even if it doesn't last.

I just wish we had our 12am EST start time back.

But yeah pretty much all of my favorites have reps as chokers so while I like my share of non fodder in these things it is pretty irritating for me, to be sure. Kirby is my last real hope to get enjoyment out of this one. On the plus side he is looking primed to give me some.

2003-2005 was the best contest era IMO.

4-ways killed it for me. Maybe it masked some of the issues we're now seeing more clearly, but entering an age of gimmick contests was... not good. Especially when they ceased being side contests like Villains and became our only ones. Game of the Decade is the notable exception there. That was legitimately great even though at the time I was a bit annoyed we were getting that over a proper 1v1 BGE successor.

I don't think the 12AM start time would change stuff that much. The real problem is that everyone has a mobile phone and can vote from anywhere, and also a significant portion of our voterbase is older now and isn't voting after coming back from school.

The Game of the Decade final was a joke. A 2000 N64 game versus Brawl. Yeah okay.

Bayonetta is collapsing faster then I thought. Geralt might have the lead in the next hour.

I'm not really saying the 4 ways contests were the best contests, but they had the best distribution and variety of power among the entrants.

In my ideal world, new entrants like Drake and Ezio and Shepard would last as Dante-like midcarders.

It would change for Master Chief. The problem right now is the early anti-vote screws with the day vote (which now takes place early in the match) so the day vote gets muffled and Chief's vote swinginess gets hurt.

Main difference between mobiles with a later start time is the day vote would become the morning vote. Which is fine I just want the vote swing as ridiculous as possible

Majora's Mask is legitimately great!

And the campaign to take down Brawl was funny as hell. I was actually just thinking to myself if Fallout 3/Brawl was the last time something new/western put up a legitimately great high-level performance. >_>

Majora's Mask is a great game, but there's something to be said when a 2000 N64 game wins the contest that is meant to celebrate the newer generations of games

IDK if I'd go that far for all of them (assuming we're talking Peak Dante anyway), but yeah new characters not needing multiple widely acclaimed games to not lose to Tails would be a massive f***in improvement tbqqqqqh

Yeah 2007 and 2008 were the best years because you actually had non Nintendo non square doing anything at all

On a side note, Geralt's turnabouts throughout this contest make Rosalina look genuinely impressive in retrospect. She needs to come back next contest, she could get some nice upsets.

I think Geralt just lacks the ability to do blowouts against Smash characters so all his matches end up close.

I think this could also dilute Master Chief's anti-votes by spreading them out over the course of the day. I would expect the Chief to get anti-voted at the start from those willing to stay up that late. After that early vote, anyone who couldn't anti-vote Chief at the start will do so whenever they wake up or later in the day if they can't vote in the morning.

Right, which helps. Right now you ram his anti votes directly into his strongest time so it offsets too much. It's still weird looking but his % doesn't start as low as it could due to the antivotes being concentrated in his strongest time not does it go up as fast as it could cause many of the anti votes come in when he's naturally strongest.

Not to mention I'd imagine a lot of his anti votes are actually from Europe anyway.

There's still BotW stomping everything. Outside of that is seeing if Overwatch/Undertale/Minecraft have any good base strength when the rallies fail.

Square sure, but Nintendo is going to have at least a few heavy hitters that'll dominate the contest:

Breath of the Wild
Smash Bros 4 & 5
Maybe A Link Between Worlds unless everyone just stopped caring about it

Due to the nature of rallies, new stuff might have more potential power. But on the whole they have far less intrinsic power than older stuff.

Even if Undertale and Draven did that with legit strength, it doesn't change the statement at all. 1 exception doesn't debunk the trend.

I expect Breath of the Wild to be very strong, based on this poll:

The poll was less than 3 months old from the release of Breath of the Wild, so it's possible that game might be getting overinflated from being so recent and voters not having a sufficient amount of time to properly form an opinion on the game. Even then, it should almost certainly up there with games like Twilight Princess and Wind Waker, even if it's not quite up to the level of Majora's Mask.

Skyrim will be the only potential competitor for Breath of the Wild in a finals match, since Smash won't have a chance of winning because it's going up against the Nintendo hierarchy.

The Smashes will almost be invariably strong, but I wonder how much.

Smash Wii U in particular might drop in whatever strength it has by Ultimate eclipsing it.

Smash 4 probably doesn't even get in because of Smash Ultimate.

That's honestly an explanation I could think of with Zelda and Bayonetta winning, but Fox losing.

Or Fox is getting anti-voted because he's the face of competitive Melee circle jerk.

i'll just go with Zelda and Fox are both boosted, just that you notice Zelda's performance more because she's boosted by more and Aerith is still popular. FF7 hasn't looked bad, apart from Vincent.

Yeah really Fox shouldn't have been thought as the favorite here. NintenFEAR was the only real reason for it. 59% on Captain Toad doesn't look great but 54% on Jill Valentine is that much worse

You’re wrong. This is DroneFAQs and they’d rather LABO win than any deserving game like GTA5 or RDR2. Also, Bored Of The Walking is still popular.

I think Fox just isn't that great. 54% on Jill also looks worse after DK crushed Leon.

Chris also looks bad after Kirby destroyed Phoenix.

This is how Squall performed before KH1 released. With how bad KH has looked, there may be a good reason why FF decline is hurting Squall way more than most other FF characters.

(really hoping KH3 is good!)

This is very interesting. It's not something that I would have considered before, but the decline of KH on this site may also explain why characters like Squall, Cloud, and Sephiroth have gotten weaker over the past few years. They got a boost in strength from the original KH when it was released by introducing those characters to people who might not have played the FF games they originated from.

It's still possible Squall may have gotten weaker among the people who have never even touched a KH game before.
