It's hard to call Kefka a fraud since he is so inconsistant, but that still a bad performance. At least he didn't do it against Bomberman. |

I probably would've given 2B more credit if I'd realized Nier was Square when I'd made my bracket, although this result seems weird. 2B-Bowser being closer than Alucard-Kefka is not something I would've called before the contest or even after their earlier matches. It took until seeing them in Round 2 for me to even realize Alucard was the favorite! Then again, another reason why I wouldn't have called Bowser's third match to be closer than Alucard's is because I fell into the "new characters are weak" trap and just assumed that Ness-Shadow was a 3-point match. "Someday I'll catch up, and then you'll all be surprised!" BKSheikah has the power. He is the one. |
I'm
not sure I take Peach over Kefka regardless of the final percentages
today. Alucard - especially with a picture advantage - is just a prime
candidate to ignore Kefka's bulls*** shenanigans. I'm not sure if Peach
is (though I dunno if Kefka's ever beaten Nintendo 1v1, so she might

Especially when you take into account that Lightning made her contest debut while her game was still Japan-exclusive, since it disqualifies a number of other characters like Sora and Amaterasu (neither of which have missed a contest since the North American releases of their debut games). What's the ruling on X, though? I seem to remember that CJayC considered all Mega Men to be the same character, but MMX didn't actually debut until the second fourway contest. If 2008 was in fact the first year that X was eligible, though, he's certainly a good candidate for the honor. But if the question is "What is the best that any character whose debut game came out after the first contest has done in the first character battle to be held after said release date?"... well, okay, that's poorly phrased as well, since League of Legends receives new characters via updates and Draven wasn't part of the original cast. In fact, Teemo could've been in CBVIII, but Draven couldn't have. But regardless, the leading answers are all rally targets in one way or another. WCC is a possible answer in spite of its presence in the CBVI bonus poll as Portal came out during the contest. You know who else is a candidate? Bidoof. Yeah, seriously. Even though they hadn't gone to simultaneous worldwide releases yet, Diamond and Pearl's Japanese and U.S. releases were close enough that Bidoof qualifies as someone who made the bracket in their first eligible year. For non-rallied entries? Altair is a possibility. He made Round 3 in 2008, which was indeed his first eligible year. "Someday I'll catch up, and then you'll all be surprised!"
