It wasn't anything special but hearing Reggie mentioning the name "Golden Sun" which was immediately followed by a theme that is very fitting to be a Golden Sun theme, it really got to me

Are we ready to start talking about the possibility of Ryu > Sephiroth yet? I'm not sure I'm feeling it, but if you assume that K Rool and Falcon are close to eachother on the 's*** tier Smash character' list, I have to think it's possible. Certainly the gap between K Rool and Falcon can't be much bigger than what would be required for Ryu to win there? I still think Seph takes it, but I can't see him getting more than 52% there.

That's quite the assumption. Also, the conversation would be more worth having if Seph was dropping the ball. Instead, he's looked good.

I wouldn't at all assume K.Rool and Falcon are close to each other because Falcon would roll over K.Rool if they ever met.

Ryu>Sephiroth is a dumb upset pick that feels as if some are arguing for it because they're desperate to see Sephy fall before the Legends bracket. The fact that Tifa easily beat Mewtwo and Vincent still did respectively against Auron should make it obvious that outside of the first 10 minutes Seph's easily winning and the question should be whether Ryu breaks 40% by the end of it.

I agree that CF would Smash K Rool directly, but their actual stat value can't be more than 5% off from eachother. Do you really think Seph would be breaking 75% on K Rool? Because that's what he would be needing to do to comfortably beat Ryu

Falcon is definitely not in the "s*** tier Smash character list". He crushed Diddy in the past. Beat Riku in a day match back when he wasn't trash and came incredible close to upsetting Alucard last time. You're giving King K. Rool too much credit, it's most certainly just Shepard being ass this year.

Well, Ryu's first two performances, taken without any adjustments, suggest that Shepard is barely stronger than Lloyd Irving. This is after he beat Aeris in the last contest. There's more evidence to suggest Shepard's fallen off hard than there is to suggest Ryu's gone beast mode.

Falcon has a win against post-SSBB Diddy. K. Rool being stronger than Diddy is a pretty questionably claim.

Another tidbit: Shepard almost doubled Captain Olimar in his first match ever, and that was while he had a (probably hampering, unfortunately) FemShep pic. I don't think Olimar is stronger than K. Rool, but going from doubling one Nintendo weakling to barely beating another is a steep decline.

I'd still be willing to entertain this upset IF Seph was s***ting the bed, but we've seen nothing of the sort. 65% on Captain Falcon is very much a Noble 9 performance, and Ryu's never been near that level.

Maybe FFVII took back the strength Pokémon borrowed in 2013.

Would anyone really take Shepard over Captain Falcon? I wouldn't even give that match a passing glance. That suggests to me that Sephiroth shouldn’t have *that* much trouble beating Ryu, even if it would be exciting to see.

Really? You don’t think he could have dropped that much in 5 years? I mean, Mass Effect is practically a dead series these days, just totally out of the public consciousness. I wouldn’t find that unusual. Then you couple that with Smash hype being at its peak... I dunno, I just wouldn’t have hard time picking Falcon to cruise in that match. Maybe I’m off base!

Fair enough I suppose. Personally, I would expect obscure Fails characters to do even better with lower votals (like that new one whose name I've already forgotten). But I guess Occam's Razor would shoot down this upset, too many assumptions rather than the simplest explanation.

It absolutely can. Captain Falcon's better than you think.

Is it possible that Shepard is currently weaker than Garrus? I could imagine Shepard being strongly affected by ME3/Andromeda backlash and Garrus only being weakly affected or something.

Well, Shepard is the face of Mass Effect more than anyone, so if there is some concerted effort by a subset of the voters to anti-vote it, he would certainly suffer from it more than Garrus, I'd imagine.

Dunno if it'd be enough to drive him below Garrus but now I kinda have to hope it is...!

Garrus>Shepard wouldn't surprise me *too* much. At least not indirectly. Shepard is the face of his series. Even if he wasn't in Andromeda, he still bears the brunt of its failure. Garrus represents a lot of the good memories people have of the original trilogy. No one dislikes Garrus.

Still not looking great for Squall either way. 64% on someone equal to Ramza is nothing to write home about.

Vivi/Ganondorf looks to be really interesting based on these percentages. If Vivi goes up and Ganon goes down as I expect, though…

10 people fell off the Top 50. Vegink, dilateDChemist, Seanchan, VeryInsane, Ngamer64, htaeD, Exystence, tyder21, Zylothewolf and Mr_Monkford did not have Sephiroth, Amaterasu, Ryu and KOS-MOS winning.

11 people got one match wrong but survived. scaryice, pronouncemyname, AxemRedRanger, MasterMoltar, Bolto4, Safer_777, Gyarados, Fart, TylerF, gitanil and BK_Sheikah00 also did not have Sephiroth, Amaterasu, Ryu and KOS-MOS winning.

Lots of changes in the top 50. The KOS-MOS fourpack must have been really mistake-laden.

Chun-Li has gotten steadily closer to Ryu over the years, and if King K. Rool at his hype peak is close to Captain Falcon then Ryu is on-par with Sephiroth.
