seriously wondering about tifa vs mmx now. I think Mewtwo could 60-40 ocelot at least, so I see Tifa losing, but getting over 45%.

I was so ready for Mewtwo to be a fraud.

Unfortunately, I did not count on GLaDOS being a fraud.

Tifa/MMX is gonna be a good match, but I'm going with X to take the division.

I commend your courage and even greater commitment to the cause than even I possessed by picking GlaDOS > Mewtwo.

Also, although we never properly got Mario VS Sonic, we are on-schedule to see Luigi VS Tails next round. That's the closest we've seen to acknowledging that rivalry since SMW/Sonic 2.

Frog went 50-50 with Chief and Tails is going 55-45 with Chief obviously Tails is stronger. Obviously.

Big fan of Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games huh.

I didn't mind it, had a good time playing that with my nephew. Probably preferred the winter version.

We also saw Yoshi > Knuckles and Shadow > Wario (who went on to get 45% on Mario the next round), while we're drawing Mario/Sonic comparisons.

What I'm wondering is if Luigi is capable of SFFing Tails. LInk certainlly did so to Sonic, and Ganondorf certainly did so to Robotnik.

Ye all of little faith. Luigi is taking this whole division.

Match XCIII: (1) Sephiroth vs. (9) Captain Falcon

Current Contest Performance

Sephiroth
Defeated Albert Wesker, 70.28% - 29.72%

Captain Falcon
Defeated Richter Belmont, 60.40% - 39.60%

Analysis

Despite all the doom and gloom people had about Sephiroth he did pretty well. I guess people have to get over the fact that Sephiroth can no longer 60/40 the entire field outside of Link and Cloud. His performance against Wesker suggests that he is still among the noble nine in terms of strength.

As for Captain Falcon, I was a bit disappointed with him. I personally thought Richter would be significantly weaker than Simon Belmont plus what ever Super Smash Bros. Ultimate boost Richter would have received should have been eaten up by fan favourite Captain Falcon. Regardless, Captain Falcon was never going to win this match though given their vote trends we could see quite the board vote.

Match XCIV: (5) Amaterasu vs. (4) Lara Croft

Current Contest Performance

Amaterasu
Defeated Draven, 88.15% - 11.85%

Lara Croft
Defeated Metal Man, 67.89% - 32.11%

Analysis

I forgot, how weak Draven was doing before his rally kicked in during the 2013 contest. It also looks like the exposure of winning the contest did nothing for him. Lara Croft easily defeated a random, albeit one of the most famous Mega Man bosses.

Amaterasu probably wins this match. She’s been quite consistent in her performances, becoming one of the strongest newish characters in the bracket. The only reason I can see Lara Croft threatening to win this match is if she benefits from the voter apathy factor. Relative to her strength Amaterasu is not known to the average person, at least not as well known as Lara Croft. Still, I think Amaterasu has enough strength to combat this.

Match XCV: (3) Ryu vs. (6) Commander Shepard

Current Contest Performance

Ryu
Defeated Lloyd Irving, 68.44% - 31.56%

Commander Shepard
Defeated King K. Rool, 51.23% - 48.77%

Analysis

I know Super Smash Bros. Ultimate boosted a lot of characters, but for King K. Rool to keep even with Commander Shepard for so long it had to signal a drop in strength for him. It even made sense given what characters from newer series have been doing all contest. Yet Garrus held up quite well against Squall earlier this round to the point that you could argue that Garrus didn’t drop in strength.

Even if we got peak Commander Shepard, I wouldn’t expect him to keep up against Ryu. Ryu was already an elite character and since 2013 he’s been in Super Smash Bros. 4 so that only would make him look better. Based on his performance against Lloyd, I don’t think Ryu has a chance against Sephiroth to win the division, but a great performance here could change my mind.

Match XCVI: (10) KOS-MOS vs. (2) Aqua

KOS-MOS
Defeated Ellie, 54.45% - 45.55%

Defeated Quiet, 64.11% - 35.89%

Analysis

Thanks to bracket placement Aqua has become the last Kingdom Hearts character left alive. I was impressed by her performance against Quiet, but I think that says more about how no one cares about Metal Gear Solid V.

I’m not too concerned for KOS-MOS. She may have struggled against Ellie, but Joel has shown to be legit and I wouldn’t expect Ellie to be too far either. If anything, KOS-MOS has a great chance at scoring a higher percentage than her first-round match.

So the big question here, what's more impressive, 61% on Frog, or 69% on Ocelot? I'm not even sure where to place Frog this year

I just realized I could very well enter the leaderboard today. I kind of gave up on it given the matches we were having, with characters boosting and dropping, and moved to Oracle. I hope I'll be there.

Frog is definitely stronger while Ocelot is weaker, how much is debatable.

How about this, how much does Frog need to beat Ocelot by to make Luigi > MMX?

Frog needs to get at least 58.57% against Ocelot

I actually think Aqua will beat KOS-MOS. I have that in my bracket and I'm sticking with it! (not that I have a choice)

That's definitely doable with the way MGS has looked so far.

When making my bracket, I was thinking along the lines of Luigi > X > Tifa > Luigi > Mewtwo. I think X is stronger than Luigi on base strength but if they face each other there will be enough SFF to favor the green plumber.

Tifa might be strong enough to get through X though and if she is then Luigi has no chance.

For round 3 is it 4 or 2 matches/day?

4 per day. Round 4 is 2 per day.

I don't think Luigi can beat MMX or Tifa based off of these results.

People are giving Frog too little credit. Chrono Trigger characters had all the reason in the world to boost.

This is such a weird "it does but it doesn't" situation. It does because CT had an excellent showing in the last game contest. It doesn't because most CT characters haven't had a game since 1994 (besides ports).

I think it's less CT boosting and more GameFAQs rapidly shrinking with fans of Western characters disproportionately likely to leave and fans of CT disproportionately likely to stay.

I thought this was because of a rally and not from the game's natural strength on the site. Some dude on here having a facebook group specifically made to help Chrono Trigger and Crono not fall flat on their asses
