Bowser is giving me renewed hope in Yoshi. Too bad Senior Snake has to be the one to step up against Red.

Speaking of that division, did I miss any discussion about Alucard winning it? He's gotta be the favorite against Kefka, at least.

I'd call the Alucard/Kefka winner the favorite to beat Red/Big Boss at this point, honestly.

I wouldn't rule out Kefka though. If Bomberman can be higher than L-Block in the X-Stats, why not Yuna? Especially with how good Crash and Spyro have looked.

There a decent amount of it. I think most people are still banking on Kefka/Red due to familiarity but personally if I could change my bracket I would go all-in on The Plan.

2B winning isn’t a boring result so they’re not all boring. Geralt was a nice surprise as well given how s*** all the other western game characters have been looking this contest. There are a few non-boring matches, but sorry if I’m not excited to see predictable 60/70-40/30 beatdowns for the others

I don't care if you're not excited about a lot of contest results. If you're not a stathead or a diehard Nintendo fan, not a lot of this contest is going to be fun for you. You do, however, devote a large amount of your time on this board complaining about the contests and its a little weird. No one's forcing you to post in the Stats topic.

I'd go with Alucard easy if I knew we'd keep these SBAllen pics through the division finals. He looks the best of the bunch. If we get user pics in R4, there's that slim chance Red gets three Pilachus and a Blastoise next to him, not sure if even The Plan can manage that.

Not that it's stated anywhere in the rules, but I'm like 99% sure that Allen wouldn't allow other characters to share the same match pic as one.

Red could still clean up in solo match pics. The Gen 1 Gameboy aesthetic was a big of a part of the Trainers' success in Rivalry Rumble as anything else.

I think the effect of Old Man Big Boss pics on his performance is being somewhat overstated. It matters but it's not a huge factor. I'd be really surprised if he won this division even with Naked Snake pics - his first two performances were just too bad.

Pretty much the only character in Division 3 who wouldn't benefit from a switch to user-made pics is Alucard.

Well yeah, he's clearly not what he was in 2010 or 2013. If he were somehow strong enough to beat Red anyway, I think a change in the pic format probably helps at least somewhat.

And even then, he's a wash at worst. I can't even imagine how that would really go wrong for him.

Well yeah, he wouldn't look bad unless he somehow got a sprite or something. It's just that the others would improve relative to him.

I think Kefka looks pretty much as good as he's going to.

I was a proponent of Brawl Pokemon Trainer pics hurting him back in the day, but I don't think it's much of a factor anymore. There was a lot of confusion back then about what 'Pokemon Trainer Red' was supposed to represent, but since then we've moved away from Brawl and Red has appeared in a lot of new media sporting his updated redesign, so it's a lot more obvious than Pokemon Trainer Red is...well, Red.

Kefka can still improve by getting a sprite picture.

Pikachu feels like the strongest Pokemon by a lot at this point, but I've thought that way for a while.

Mewtwo's the only one who could potentially challenge him since we don't totally know what that performance on GlaDOS was worth.

Red was already projected to beat Zard in 2013, and Zard was probably overrated in that year to start with. We're just seeing his true non-rally non-bandwagon strength here.

Sora also appears to be weaker now than he was in 2010.

Also, I would put Red below Charizard and Mewtwo. The Pokemon fanbase definitely prefers the actual Pokemon over the human characters.

If Pikachu can beat Squirtle head to head even after he beat Cloud, yeah I think Pika is the strongest too.

I'm not surprised Sora was the heavy favorite. People expected KH3 hype to mean something. It just didn't.

Which is so weird. I feel like KH is getting lumped in with FF and is punished for it.

Still doubt it. Not saying it's impossible or even unlikely, but Zelda is almost never on the ass end of SFF, and DK as a character is more similar to Charizaard than Zelda.

KH is getting punished because we've literally had 11 contests since the last time a numbered entry was released

KH3 might have helped more if it actually released and it's a good game.

Hype probably isn't all that helpful, especially when there's a game a lot closer to now that truly has the hype. That, and the reaction to KH3 seems to be more "about damn time" than "OMG KH3 is a couple months away!"
