Match LXXIII: (1) Sora vs. (9) Pokemon Trainer Red Current Contest Performance Sora Defeated Ryo Hazuki, 69.08% - 30.92% Pokemon Trainer Red Defeated Neptune, 75.32% - 24.68% Analysis This match was one of the most hyped round 2 matches of the bracket. On one hand you had Kingdom Hearts with a potential Kingdom Hearts 3 boost and on the other you had PokeFear, 5 years removed. Even after a round of matches, I’m not quite confident on who will win. From what I’ve seen it doesn’t look like Kingdom Hearts 3 has given much of a boost, though it is difficult to say for sure. We haven’t seen Ryo since 2004 and Shenmue 3 is also receiving some hype while Bayonetta benefitting from the Smash boost is not surprising. Sora’s opponents in 2013 would suggest he would get 43.85% against Vivi and 39.31% against Pikachu respectively. Of course, five years is a long time, could Red do the same? Despite tripling his opponent, we don’t really have much information on Red. It is likely that Neptune will be among the weakest in the x-stats. Pikachu has done well so far, but he already proved that he was a legit elite character. However, I can’t say the same for Charizard and Mewtwo. They still have strength, but no doubt they aren’t the noble nine breakers we saw in previous contests. I always felt that Red will be a step behind the top Pokemon. It was clear in 2010 he was behind Pikachu and I think the same will hold true against Charizard and Mewtwo. Sora can win this, but he must not have dropped since 2013. charmander6000’s Bracket: Sora > Pokemon Trainer Red charmander6000’s Prediction: Sora wins, 52.26% - 47.74% Match LXXIV: (5) Crash Bandicoot vs. (4) Big Boss Current Contest Performance Crash Bandicoot Defeated Cecil Harvey, 54.18% - 45.82% Big Boss Defeated Ridley, 56.66% - 43.34% Analysis While I was not impressed with Big Boss’ performance last round, I am ready to chalk that up to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate boost. Ridley was one of the most requested characters for the new game and given the performance of some of the other Nintendo characters I would say this looks correct. Poor Cecil, at this rate he pretty much needs a fodder opponent to win a match. Crash however, will likely struggle to reach Ridley’s performance against Big Boss. The only thing that gives me pause is Chun-Li’s performance against Ganondorf yesterday. That puts Spyro with a great number and if that was somehow Chun-Li and Spyro boosting and not Ganondorf being weaker we could potentially see a closer than anticipated match. Match LXXV: (3) Alucard vs. (6) Yuna Current Contest Performance Alucard Defeated Princess Peach, 56.81% - 43.19% Yuna Defeated Godot, 72.56% - 27.44% Analysis I had Peach winning here, oops. I guess the Nintendo boost doesn’t make you an automatic winner in all matches. I still fancy Alucard’s chances in this match. He’s always shown to have decent strength and Castlevania has been having a decent contest, though I guess you can give credit for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for that. Donkey Kong defeating Leon has made Tidus and Final Fantasy X look a bit better. I’m not sure what to think of her performance against Godot. I imagine he’s weaker than Miles Edgeworth, but the question is by how much? If the two are near each other in strength Yuna would have a decent chance at winning. However, based on my experience I feel Edgeworth would be a clear favourite over Godot, but when you are talking about two weak characters the difference overall may still be small. charmander6000’s Bracket: Princess Peach > Yuna charmander6000’s Prediction: Alucard wins, 54.72% - 45.28% Match LXXVI: (7) Kefka vs. (15) Bomberman Current Contest Performance Kefka Defeated L-Block, 60.19% - 39.81% Bomberman Defeated Kazuma Kiryu, 60.87% - 39.13% Analysis Depending on what Red does to Sora tomorrow, I can see Kefka having a darkhorse chance at winning this division. L-Block is difficult to pin down, but if the block has retained any strength from its 2010 days that definitely puts Kefka in the mix for this division. While I’m glad Bomberman got his win, I don’t see him being much of a factor against Kefka. GameFAQs does not care about Yakuza and I doubt Bomberman is any more than around the fodderline.
