ME3 burnt most people who loved the series, and ME:A burnt most people who gave the series a second chance. This is obviously not the same Shepard who beat Aeris, and we'll probably never see him again. I barely touched the series, but it's a real shame for our industry. That trilogy was SO CLOSE to being the most important contribution to video games in the 21st century, but instead he's getting weighed down by the crocodile crown.

This is more about the series being in cold sleep now because of Andromeda than anything else.

This might do it.

Although personally I was on board with the change in narrative back in 2015 when DKC2 won that close match against Xenoblade and then won again next round.

DK on Day 2 doesn't necessarily help the case, because Tidus also has the same reputation. I was joking before the match that they'd somehow find a way to both wind up under 50%.

ME1 on its own isn't that amazing. My memories of it are enhanced by what came after - meeting Garrus, Wrex etc, the world-building, the introduction of stuff like the Genophage. All that stuff is enhanced by later games. Take ME1 in isolation and it's fine but a bit tedious what with the Mako and repetitive side missions.

MEA has problems but some terrific gameplay and I liked the lighter tone they went for.

3 with all the DLC is a better game than 2. Without any DLC it's close.

I believe it's way too early to call. Just pick a side and start rooting.

Those were two big update wins for Shep.

This is a problem with sci-fi fanbases I think.

There's such a depth of stuff to explore and discuss that people spend years working themselves into a frenzy discussing every aspect of it, never getting bored because it's sci fi and space magic means there are basically no limits on what could happen

Eventually people come up with their ideas and only those ideas are sufficient for the game to be "good"

Shep is gonna win but this is a really bad showing for him. Theres no reason he should be struggling with an alligator thing after beating Aerith last contest.

Ocelot wasn't even leading yet at this point. Unless K. Rool can buck the Nintendo trends we've seen so far, Shepard has this.

Well bye bye top 10 on the leaderboard, I really overestimated Ellie and Quiet.

But it's ok since KOS-MOS was one of my first nominations. Beat Xenosaga this year and she is the better character IMO.

She isn’t really cutting though, just sort of going 50/50 on new votes.

Maybe these match pics are simply doing the generic male characters (aka in board terms: GENERIC MCDUDES) no favors?

Like the only one to really do all that well in Round 1 of this contest is Leon Kennedy and he probably doesn't count to the same extent as someone like Gordon or Drake.

So I woke up and checked the results. I was here at the start of the match of course. I read the stats topic too. Seems that Shepard will win at least.

But listen people. I said it multiple times. ME Andromeda was BAD! Seriously. Know how many parodies and videos were made to mock it? Can't even count. I mean ME trilogy was one of the best in the previous generation and after ME Andromeda came out EA decided to stop! Think about that! It was the game that killed the franchise! And you know the sad part? I played it recently after all the patches. And the game I liked it actually! Seriously! It is not that bad. I know the game was really bad at the start but now it is much better! But that doesn't matter anyways.

As for Shepard he wasn't in Andromeda yeah BUT he is synonymous with the ME franchise. This is why you see this today. Barely beating King K. Rool!

Since the Last of Us 2 isn't out yet Ellie still remains a character you escort and only play as in a DLC

Since all we've seen is you play as Ellie in TLOU2 she's possibly taken Joel's place. Also in the first game there's a good chunk where you play as her in the main game. Also not really an escort, more of a companion that has your back like Uncharted characters.

Compared to Ashley in RE4 or Emma in MGS2, Ellie is hardly an escort.

Andromeda has killed Mass Effect. That series is dead and not coming back. If it's in another few years, I'm not expecting Shepard to return for CBXI.

Let's not let 3 off the hook though. With the DLC, it's alright. But that is where the problems for Mass Effect started - not even just the ending. Stuff like EA cutting not one, but two essential parts of the story to sell as paid DLC, one of which being on-disc (and featuring the best character). Or them forcing you to play multiplayer to unlock endings at launch. Or them making a mode that stripped the essential elements of choice from the game then making that the default. Even trading a lot of the tone and pace of the first two for what feels like an action-packed theme park ride. That game was made a lot worse than it could've been because of EA's greed.

It didn't even work; 3 did not outsell 2 despite EA wanting it to double its sales, and Andromeda flopped outright. So now that series is dead. Thanks EA.

The percentage for Draven in Peru looks very suspicious. Draven has 100% in Belarus and Zimbabwe, and 66.67% in Myanmar. So for Belarus, Zimbabwe, and Myanmar, you can assume those percentages are due to the very low vote totals from those countries.

For Peru, the percentages I'm seeing are consistent with much higher vote totals. In fact, these were the Peru results from all 4 matches yesterday:

Albert Wesker - 87.17%
Richter Belmont - 89.30%
Draven - 82.89%
Metal Man - 88.24%

In all 4 cases, Peru heavily favored the winner. I strongly suspect a vote stuffer from Peru, or someone using proxy servers hosted in Peru. It's clear the vote stuffer favored all 4 winners with 100% of the vote, while the non-stuffed votes from Peru are being split between both characters.

After doing research, I can confirm there were 187 votes from Peru in all 4 matches. This includes the registered user bonus. If all of these votes had been legitimate, we would also expect the regular polls having vote totals from Peru which reflects the overall vote totals of the regular polls. So far, the contest matches have been pulling in about twice as many raw votes as the regular polls currently running alongside this contest.

Only one regular poll has shown signs of vote stuffing from Peru and that was yesterday's poll where Pokemon: Let's Go, Eevee / Pikachu! got 94.57% in Peru. This is consistent with a minimum of 92 votes from Peru, although the regular polls don't have the registered user bonus. All of the other regular polls running during the contest are showing percentages consistent with less than 10 votes from Peru.

Given the 187 votes from Peru in yesterday's matches, it seems like the vote stuffer might also be using accounts created prior to the start of the contest, meaning they get the registered user bonus.

Yeah but with this particular pic format Rool stands out even more than he probably would normally, like if we were using full-body shots. Or even larger face pics.

post-Andromeda, shepard doesn't have much to propel and differentiate him. he's just a generic space dude. that's his design.

Yeah looking at the match pics, for some reason this picture format seems to be particularly unsuitable to these "generic male characters". Or maybe it's because contests have generally not had many of them.

Meanwhile Smash Ultimate art, which is being used wherever possible, REALLY benefits. It just pops out so much.
