Being a Guru nom certainly helped, but the other Guru nom (Victor Sullivan) was only a 6 seed. So it would seem like Aqua also had some support from outside Board 8 to get up to a 2 seed.

being more popular than Sully is not an accomplishment, however

i'd give k. rool like 5% chances

shepard has no reason to not be terrible now with how this contest has gone but yeah, nintendo's looked great, DK looked great and dedede liked kind of ok and they were in his trailer, there has to be SOME type of line on what smash does for people, shepard's peak strength is way higher than most of the western guys that have flopped

No rallies; GameFAQs back on the hype levels it's been known for; no overly wacky stuff involved; most satisfying blowout of the entire contest; Nintendo showing consistent strength; not many really hard matches to predict; "boring" or uneventful matches quickly taken care of thanks to the 4-matches-per-day format.

Really, with all of the above you can't really go lower.

I have Noctis and Peach winning in round 2 so those are free matches.

Plus I have no faith in Master Chief > Tails(Nathan Drake) anymore

Everything else I feel has at least a decent chance at happening.

Also I am not against rallies, they bring excitement
The stat topics are mostly dead except for like 6 hours, 3 before the new round starts and 3 after
Even the close matches that were I couldn't care about
Barely any surprises outcomes

don't worry there will be a huge upset on the first day of round 2 for SuperNiceDog when Dante crushes Lightning

3. Only 3 good matches and no rallies. Say whatever you want about them but they bring the discussions and the excitement. Hope Round 2 is better.

7. I'm enjoying it overall. Though yeah most matches are predictable.

No rallies actually boost the grade upwards not down.

the only "exciting" match was watching master hand make everybody regret picking final fantasy again

aside from a couple other matches like the Ocelot one, everything was decided after the first 10 minutes. that sucks and isn't interesting. but interesting round 1's generally don't happen without some outside shenanigans, so it's "average" to me.

Round 1 has been alright. The best part about it has been that it's fast.

There have been some good matches but not a lot, and some surprising percentages. Most matches are decided quick and what hurts is that we had a lot of times where all the matches are decided quick.

The legacy of this contest is going to be decided by how good the second part of it is regardless.

Watching the losers bracket pull in like 5% of all entries getting correct picks will be hilarious

What's with the inclusion of Metal Man, BTW? It seems strange to see a random Robot Master make his way to the contest.

Also a Board 8 rally. Although I wouldn't consider Metal Man a "random" Robot Master. He's got the most iconic weapon in the series.

I feel like he's a random Robot Master to the average voter. You have to be a big Mega Man fan to care about individual Robot Masters.

Well, in comparison to something like Toad Man or Napalm Man, which would truly be random.

I feel like the only ones that I would put above the pack are Metal Man, Guts Man, and Cut Man. The latter two mostly from that cartoon.

True that. I have never played any MM games. HOWEVER I have heard of Metal Man. I don't remember how. But I have heard of him.

I think Quick Man deserves a mention. f***ing lasers.

As a not-at-all Mega Man fan, the robot masters I can think of off the top of my head are Cut Man, Quick Man, and I think there's an Elec Man? I don't think Metal Man would be one of them.

I feel pretty stupid picking Quiet here but I figured she'd get a way more favorable picture. Especially doubling down in the Oracle too.

As someone who has never played a Kingdom Hearts game, how popular even is Aqua? I kind of looked at other KH characters like Axel and then compared it against Metal Gear characters like Otacon who are apparently pretty even in the x-stats. But I don't know if that's even a fair comparison

This round was always looking like an entre, there is much more to come.

Only minor upsets, only a few close ones and lots of questions still to be answered but by and large it delivered.

Yeah, I'm probably giving this 7/10 for the most part.

Bracket is pretty good, but some underlying issues like certain match pictures being garbage, needless controversies with Captain Toad and Joker's names, and a few fodder matches (Velvet/James, Aqua/Quiet) prevent me from going higher.

The re-release on consoles has probably helped increase the game's playrate. We do have this KH related poll:

I don't think the fourth option suggests anything about spinoffs.

Yeah that has the spinoffs play rate at ~33% and then up to +15% but likely on the low end as that 15% is more likely to be main games rather than spinoffs

No, but it's implied due to the way the other options are set up. If your only KH game was either KH1 or KH2 (or both of them), you wouldn't vote for "I've played at least one game in the series at some point" when the option "Just the original Kingdom Hearts and/or Kingdom Hearts II, but never any others" would be much more suitable for that situation.

I guess another concern I have is, will Quiet be anti-voted? I feel like she's a controversial figure in gaming...but in ways that likely don't really affect the voting base of this particular website. I feel like more people will know Quiet compared to Aqua, but did Quiet actually leave a meaningful impact on anyone? She's just fanservice that Kojima tried to convince us had a deeper meaning...

I just think Ryu has a good shot at matching or beating Seph's number since Fox got 68% on Lloyd in 2010.

Lloyd did a lot better in 2013 by matching Big Daddy and getting 31% on Pikachu. But Kratos Aurion sucked in 2013....weird. I'm not sure what data to trust. Ryu could fail to break 65% or come close to tripling...
