Based on what we're seeing, I'm guessing the next round's fourpack is ranked like:

I still feel pretty unsure of what's up for these characters though, even after today. Well-made eight-pack.

With Simon Belmont gaining over the last 3 hours, it looks like North America is waking up and this will probably end up being a "comfortable" Simon victory.

I don't know if it has been pointed out but during the bracket-making period, the Persona 5 protagonist was just referenced as Ren if you picked him in later rounds. I checked the jsfiddles for the guru contest to make sure. Indeed he only appears as Ren in later rounds.

However if you look at your bracket now, it now says Joker in Round 2. So there's a chance that the name that will appear underneath the match pic will be Joker. Since that is what's currently going on with Captain Toad.

Xtats gave one guy as the obvious winner and we were left trying to figure out if the other guy managed to catch up.

Most likely yes.

Everyone already saw that coming, but again, it's a matter of predicting if it would be enough to make Simon close the gap between him and Ryu. Also Ryu may have a decayed some since last contest, too.

This thing isn't exact science, as much as we try to make it. Xtats help but sometimes there are cases like this where you have to go with your gut.

Underestimated Smash hype.

Stupid Simon's best two results are 40% on Ezio and 36% on Gordon Freeman. Yet now he'd probably be able to reverse those losses bigtime now. How things change.

I think we did get Hayabusa a little wrong. 2004/2005 Hayabusa was worth like 21% on Link. 2006 Hayabusa is marginally better but was extrapolated through Snake vs. Yoshi in the sprite round. Hayabusa looked great in Round 1 of the fourways in both 2007 and 2008 but collapsed in round 2. People have made excuses that Solid Snake had "cool SFF" on him or whatever but those performances look relatively consistent with his 1-on-1 results; it was probably Hayabusa's great fourway round 1 results that were the illusion. People blamed the match picture when Hayabusa collapsed hard against Mega Man in 2010 (and that might have hurt him marginally) since he had pulled a good upset on Master Chief but we know by now that Xbox acceptance was well on its way out the door by 2010 (see also: Marcus Fenix) and again, 2004-2006 Hayabusa wasn't worth much. And Hayabusa probably got bailed out hard in 2013 by drawing two Final Fantasy opponents in the same match.

Simon was also not terrible in 2010 and 2013; looked around high fodder. If you assume Hayabusa was never particularly good in the first place, he would have probably been vulnerable to anyone half-decent with relevancy. Him losing to Simon looks about right.

He's cut just under 60 votes within the past 55 minutes so he keeps up at this level he should pass Simon.

Of course, Simon just gained 21 votes to his lead with the last update, so Simon can hold out easily if he keeps getting updates like that.

Simon's doing well enough in the western hemisphere that it's hard to believe Hayabusa's going to make a serious effort.

Over 500 votes is also kind of a tall order this late in the match given our votals and how frontloaded we are with the new start time.

Also, I knew Smash characters would kind of "overperform". K. Rool's next, by the way.

Something seemed odd about picking Simon at first to win the division in my bracket, since it looked like the weakest winner of all divisions. I was debating myself on whether to take Simon > Bayonetta and have the winner of that match lose to Auron, but I ultimately picked Geralt > Riku instead. >_> At least Auron wins the division, right?

If Ryu is going to lose, I'm glad it's going to be a nailbiter, or at least the closest thing to one so far outside of Garrus/Ramza. If he can reach and hold at least 49%, I'll be satisfied.

I was counting on 2015's contest introducing GameFAQs to Undertale and the heartfelt joy of its characters affecting more people in ways like what we saw at its first GDQ marathon

20% of this site (or at least the people who vote) say they'll never play Undertale because of the 2015 contest, specifically. Another 50% claim it's not their style of game and have no interest in it. Couple that with Undertale being long past its prime and people harping on the fanbase still yet (even though it genuinely doesn't exist anymore and that has nothing to do with the quality of the game itself)... Sans needed a miracle to do anything. Which is disappointing because Undertale is still a good game, with a good story, and great characters.

well it's honestly hard to say how much of this is a Smash boost because half of these characters are unproven and Hayabusa's kind of inconsistent anyway

Yeah I think that's really underrated. I hadn't looked at the picture when making my guess for this match but I probably would've upped Belmont a few points had I done so. I actually identify this picture as Simon Belmont unlike his other matches. It has to be helping.

This is definitely part of it since Hayabusa gets a lot of votes from looking cool (even moreso now that it takes effort not to vote in every match).

his vote intake really spiked on that update so it's probably just an anomaly but maybe it's the day vote...!

How do you go about not voting in every match?

Not sure, but the vote totals aren’t quite the same between matches so apparently there’s a way

I guess that's true, if a redesign helped Kefka immensely, it makes sense that it would help out Simon too

The biggest thing for me that makes me think this is Bayonetta/Riku but it may just be getting a sequel and appearing on Nintendo consoles more than Smash

I hope Geralt ends up making it to the divisional finals never getting more than 56%
