I assumed Captain Toad is just regular Toad with a hat, and picked him in my bracket because of it.

Is that not the case?

Titles matter quite a bit. They're part of a character's identity.

It's not going to be a HUGE difference because it's still Captain Toad in the pic, but if the match ends up super close like it's looking it may, I'm calling foul play. Let's see what was in your bracket, Allen!!!

At least Allen had the common sense to properly label Metal Sonic yesterday, and that name had a length of 11 characters (including the space in "Metal Sonic").

The name "Captain Toad" would be only 12 characters long and a solid case can be made for listing the full name without causing any problems with how the voting form is displayed. Like, listing Ezio's full name would definitely cause problems with the voting form, but this wouldn't be a problem with Captain Toad.

It’s definitely dubious, and it’s not even the big example in this bracket. Ren’s chances of winning in a few days might depend on if he gets his Joker name or not.

Captain Toad isn't even as long as the name of his opponent, and that one is spelled out in full. Shovel Knight also didn't reach the end of the picture, so there's more than enough room to add Captain.

I have no idea if this changes the outcome in any way though, it's just a little dumb.

Ren isn't going to get his Joker name (or pic). If he does I'll be like five times as upset as I am now, because 100% of the reason I picked Claire was under the assumption that he wouldn't.

Of course it makes a difference. One is a very specific Toad in a specific game that most people haven't played. The other is the general Toad that has been in a million spinoffs and that people have played as a lot. Goombario from Paper Mario would be much weaker than Goomba.

Captain Toad has been in every major Mario platformer since Galaxy, as well as having his own game.

After experimenting with HTML editing of the voting form, I have found that names up to 15 characters in length will definitely not reach the end of the picture. I think 15 character limit would be a good guideline for determining if a character's name should be shortened. More than 15 characters means the name should be shortened.

Only 12 characters in the bracket have a name with more than 15 characters in length.

There was a push on this board for Captain Toad in particular. I don't know what the original reasoning for choosing him over just Toad was though.

I think that Waluigi's current percentage is good compared to what you'd expect him to get naturally.

It was always a matter of whether he'd get rallied or not.

The only thing that ever annoys me is picking a favorite and getting talked out of it, only to have my favorite win.

Not much difference between registered and anonymous users for Squall, but he was up against an indie game character that few people know. Zelda on the other hand had a fairly extreme split that comes close to rivaling Pikachu. Squall/Zelda is likely shaping up have an even larger split than Pikachu/Scorpion.

Ramza does better among registered users, but Garrus also had the benefit of a rally on Reddit to boost his anonymous vote percentage. It does seem like the Reddit rally for Garrus had some effect as these matches got only 47.94% of the votes from registered users (about 2% lower than normal). The rally for Ramza and Garrus probably brought in about 800 votes combined.

I’m not expecting Joker to do anything, but there is a problem when I’ve seen Persona fans not recognize Ren’s name.

This is because his name is not anywhere in the game.

Joker didn't even have a name until months after the game came out.

However if you look at your bracket now, it now says Joker in Round 2. So there's a chance that the name that will appear underneath the match pic will be Joker. Since that is what's currently going on with Captain Toad.

I'm sure this has been talked about a lot, but man, my Shovel Knight pick got robbed! If I had known that the name "Toad" was right under the image I would have never picked SK! I picked Claire Redfield over the Ren banking on the name "Ren" being used. I sure hope Ren/Claire isn't close, because if it IS close, and the name "Joker" is used, I will have been screwed over twice from a different name under the pic.

On the bright side, my spread bets are looking good at this time! Thank you Aeris, Shovel Knight, and Jill for not completely bombing
