Officially, 3 votes, Liquid over Alucard in 2007. However, that was between first and second in a 4way so both characters advanced anyway. For an actual advancement, 7 votes, Frog over Master Chief in '04.

The seven votes has also been equaled twice in situations in which neither entrant advanced. Street Fighter IV took third place over Persona 4 by 7 votes in a 2009 Games Contest match, and Kratos Aurion beat Boko by 7 votes for second place in a 2013 match.

No, not the actual win. I feel like Garrus has that. I'm talking about the wire-to-wire 24-hour records. The closest 1v1, 24-hour wire-to-wire match is Frog vs. Master Chief in 2004, largest lead by either side being 460 votes. The overall record for a 24-hour match is 403, Tales of Symphonia vs. God of War in 2009.

...As I wrote this, Garrus got the next update by enough to set his lead to a new high. 387. I don't think Ramza will be able to keep it close enough to break either record.

Analysis

When the bracket was released a lot of people thought D. Va would be among the most likely to get a rally. While Overwatch is the type of game that could get rallied, I’m not exactly feeling it. It doesn’t have the type of fanbase that Draven or Undertale had when they made their run. I could be wrong and it wouldn’t take too much to win this match if a rally does materialize.

Among the brackets not predicting a rally I’m quite surprised D. Va is such the heavy favourite. Overwatch is not popular on GameFAQs, it easily lost during the Game of the Year polls. Horizon Zero Dawn didn’t fare too much better, but at least Aloy is the main character. Meanwhile, D. Va is part of ensemble cast which no doubt will make her weaker than the game. At least with Tracer non-Overwatch fans would have recognized her.

Again, I’m going to assume no rally materializes and go with Aloy, but the match is definitely very winnable for D. Va.

Analysis

This match could be worth at least three points should no rally form. Jill has had a decent contest career, but with no major Resident Evil appearances since Resident Evil 5 it is possible that she may be weaker now. Not by too much, but it may be enough to put her at a disadvantage.

Despite having multiple contest appearances Fox is still a bit of a wildcard, due to always being stuck in SFF matches. Nintendo seems to be performing well so far which is good, but Jill is no pushover. Fox is the safe bet, but I am quite nervous about this match. Should Waluigi get a rally I could see that ultimately giving Fox the victory.

Analysis

Despite being a new IP I think Shovel Knight could have some strength. His game is definitely a type of game GameFAQs users would like and the game did well in 2015. With that said, Shovel Knight won’t defeat anyone of note, but he doesn’t need to in order to win this match.

I’ve been a big fan of giving Toad a second chance in one of these things, it was quite unfair to match him up against Bowser in 2007. Captain Toad is a bit iffy. Sure, he’s a Toad, but he’s a specific Toad and I feel that could weaken him. For example, I wouldn’t expect Goombario to perform as well as a generic Goomba. I still think he can win this match, but it will come down to people voting for him because he’s a Toad.

Analysis

Among all the characters with rally potential, I feel Waluigi is the most likely to occur. His snub from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is still quite fresh on people’s mind and what better way than to rally him in a popularity contest. 4chan pushed for him for a while in 2013 and while that fizzled out, they won’t need as many votes to win here. Regardless I feel Waluigi will be a bit stronger this contest, given that his popularity has increased.

It’s hard to rank Aerith based on 2013, but I feel she did well for a Final Fantasy VII character. She may have lost to Commander Shepard, but that was at a time of when Shepard was at or near his peak. Should no rallying occur Aerith should win this match without too much issue. Waluigi may be stronger, but he has a long way to go to defeat Aerith legitimately.

Sigh, I'm not looking forward to Shovel Knight vs. Captain Toad. I've got the Shovel in my bracket out of support, but now theres a chance itll knock me off the leaderboard. Then picking Rosalina > Geralt will probably keep me down. Well it was a fun time being near the top

i think the D.Va rally would come from the cosplay people not the more game oriented fans. only takes 1 Instagram person who has done her cosplay before to push 2k plus votes her way.

I think you might be selling D.Va a bit short. Overwatch has a style and D.Va is very easy to recognize. The game might not be GameFAQs kinda thing, but a fair amount of the characters are all over the place. I’d say D.Va is gonna be way more recognizable and even appealing looking to people unfamiliar with both series and this match is definitely gonna be a “who is hotter?” match basically for anybody who doesn’t know either or doesn’t care

I think D.Va wins based on pic factor alone. Neither character will get the female advantage, but D.Va looks more anime-ish.

I also took her to beat Fox, but that was a rally hedge bet.

I think a lot of people are sleeping on D.Va's intrinsic strength. She doesn't need a rally if she ends up a solid midcarder

DDLC is a great game, but yeah Horizon is on another level.

you know what sucks? the grinch leaks have the smash fanbase all whipped up. there was kind of a lull for the past month post-Isabelle but now things are in full swing in every Smash community

Waluigi won't be as strong as when he was deconfirmed but the Smash s***posters are s***posting at light speed right now, although there's not a ton of waluigi compared to the grinch
